  1. Interesting -- I got the same deal using Price.line, not Hot.wire. As you'll see in my Priceline win a few clicks down on this forum page, I bid on Price.line for the same weekend (25-27 of April) and finally ended up at $160/night for NYNY. I hope we're getting a good deal!
  2. Started off bidding 4* for Strip North at $140, then kept adding zones and increasing until I got to $180, and still nothing. Closed down and re-booted with 4* for Strip South, started at $140, added zones and re-bid, then finally got accepted at $160 for New York New York. I guess 4/25-4/27 is an expensive weekend in Vegas!
  3. The average price might be $135 because of Friday and Saturday nights, which will be more expensive. If you split your bid, and do one for the Sun-Thurs dates -- you'll probably get under $100 for those nights -- and then a separate bid for the Fri/Sat dates -- where you'll get more like $140-ish -- then you'll get a better deal. But of course you risk having to move hotels for the weekend.
  4. Well, nobody offered any advice or suggestions, so I kept at it. I ramped my 4* bids up to about $160 or so before I changed to a 5* bid at $170, hoping to eventually get that Palazzo deal the other guy got at $179. I bid on 5* up to $200 before I got a counter offer for $254, which was way out of my price range. So I went back down to the 4* bidding and started up at $170. I kept going up by $5 and adding zones until I finally got accepted at $185 for the Monte Carlo. Not the greatest outcome for me, but I've stayed at the MC before and it was acceptable (I'd certainly rather have had PH, TI, or Rio, but I'm glad I didn't get Westin). Must just be a busy & expensive weekend for Vegas. The most I've ever spent through PRICELINE!
  5. Very nice. PH is my favorite of the 4* hotels on the strip. Great renovation, very cool hotel. That's a sweet price for a Saturday night, too. I wish I could have the same luck for my trip 4/25-4/27. :)
  6. I'm having some problems getting a decent bid for the Friday/Saturday nights of April 25th and April 26th. I saw a thread on here where someone got a 5* (at the Palazzo I believe) for $179, and I've been bidding on 4* and am fast approaching that number. I started off with 95, got rejected, added a zone, re-bid at 105, got rejected, added a zone, re-bid at 125, got rejected, added a zone, re-bid at 140, and got rejected! If I can't get a 4* at a place like Luxor, PH, TI, or Rio for $140, then how high do I need to go? Is it worth continuing with 4* or should I back out, start a new bid at ONLY 5* and try to get Palazzo for the $179 deal? I don't really want to spend 179/night, which is why I'm willing to take a 4* hotel, but if it isn't even possible to get 4* for under like 160, then I might as well kick in the extra few bucks and stay at a really really nice place (which I hear the Palazzo is). Any ideas? It has to be that weekend, those two nights, and it has to be at least 4*, and it has to be either Strip North or Strip South, or the Rio (which I believe is the only 4* in the West of Strip zone). Thanks, -joker
  7. Hey Rich, I just booked a 4* Vegas trip (thread above) for January. Some of the hotels are running good deals for Jan and Feb, and in the dates you mentioned, Planet Hollywood for example has $79 rooms on the 18-21. Their price for the 17th is $189. I used that as a guide for bidding -- my trip was Jan 13-16 and it also had $79 deals on the PH website. So I bid 4* for Strip North and Strip South, and it accepted my $55 bid and gave me Planet Hollywood. I think the Sunday checkin will hurt you just a bit, since the PH calendar suggests that that night (Sunday the 17th) will be pricier than other days. You might try a double bid, one for the 17th and one for the 18-21. The 18-21 I wouldn't be surprised if you got a $50 4* bid accepted and were put somewhere like Luxor, TI, or Planet H. For the 17th, you may have to bid up a bit. I'm not sure about the outlying areas for 4*; I didn't want to chance it so I restricted my bids to only Strip North and South. Good luck! -joker
  8. Something is going on in Vegas on the 7th and 8th, making bidding nearly impossible. Even the hotel websites have $79-$99 prices the following week, but $279-$399 on the 7th and 8th. Luckily, my girlfriend and I were able to push our trip back by a week, and I first bid $45 for Strip North hoping to get TI, but it failed so I bumped to $55 and added Strip South and I got Planet Hollywood. 3 nights for a total of $190 with tax. Jan 13-16th. I've stayed at PH before and it's very nice. Great food area too -- they have a Todai (all you can eat sushi chain) that I'm a total glutton for.
  9. Yeah, I tried TravelZoo and couldn't get anything in my range that wasn't sold out. Splitting the bid is an option, but before I put in the two bids (one for Fri-Sat, one for Sun-Mon), I'd need the answers to my other questions.
  10. Hi everyone, new to the forum (obviously -- check out that skyrocketing post count)! So I'm looking for hotels near the Vegas strip for 6/30 - 7/4. I've read some threads here... one of them got the MGM deal for $60, which is now not available. The Aladdin and Treasure Island Summer Deals are also sold out. My budget is under $100/night. However, it's also been recommended on this board NOT to use Priceline for bidding -- to use consolidators instead. So I tried Vegas.com and the best place seemed to be the Orleans, which is a bit off the strip (but not too bad, plus I will have a car) and was around $85/night, or averaging about $100 with taxes. Is that the best I can do? I did try to lowball a bid on Priceline using 4* at $75 and 3* at $60, and it actually laughed at me. No seriously, I heard it. Also, I've had trouble using the Hotel Checker maps to find out which 3* Priceline hotels they are, and which are the 4* hotels in the strip zone. Thanks in advance for any help -- sorry for all the newbie questions. I did try to read a lot of stuff on this site before posting.
