  1. PRICELINE EXPRESS Features were: Free Internet Restaurant Business Center Fitness Center Guest Rating was 8+ Got NY Marriott East Side. Total was $333.64 with all taxes/fees included. 52% savings over regular rates.
  2. Hi! I saw your post and booked this. Hotel was NOT on the betterbidding PRICELINE EXPRESS list and I got the New York Marriott East Side. 4* rating 8+ score Amenities: Wireless Internet, Fitness, Restaurant, Business Center Good luck. Will be there same weekend (arriving on 23rd) as you!
  3. So is that $200/night for a total of $400 for both nights? :) Just checking Others can offer more insight on the bidding process than I, as I have never had much luck with it. I normally just use the Priceline.Express deals. Right now on PRICELINE EXPRESS Deals, there is a 4* in Times Square (close to Central Park and Subways, but in a total tourist area) for $169/night ($424 with taxes for 2 nights) Amenities include: Restaurant, Fitness, Business Center, 7+ Rating on Priceline Judging from the hotel lists on this site for NYC/Times Square, Star Level, this is more than likely the Millennium Broadway Hotel. Looks like some decent pricing for Upper West Side on 3 and 4*, but depending on hotel could be a decent walk to a subway line. Really, anything in Central Park, Times Square, Upper West/Upper East, Midtown West, Midtown East is pretty close to Central Park and all are usually close to subway lines.
  4. On PRICELINE EXPRESS right now, I see that same hotel for $110/night (plus taxes/fees) 3 Star Secaucus/North Bergen 8+ Rating Same amenities as you listed. Judging by this it's PROBABLY the Hyatt Place, which is a really nice hotel. For this rate, I would buy from PRICELINE EXPRESS Deals. Here is my strategy for this Express Deal. This is after you have looked at Priceline.Express and saw a hotel that interests you. 1. Look at area/star level/rating (8+) 2. Open a new tab or window on browser and go to priceline.com 3. Do search for a REGULAR hotel rate (i.e. not a PRICELINE EXPRESS deal) for same area (in this case, Secaucus) and same dates (Oct 16 to Oct 19) 4. When results come up, filter on left hand side by "Secaucus - Meadowlands" (Properties will update automatically as soon as you check this area) 4. When results come up, filter on left hand side by 3 star properties (Properties will update automatically as soon as you check 3 star box) 5. From here, you can continue to filter on left hand side by "Free breakfast" (Again, property list will update automatically) 6. When I did this, only 4 hotels came up. Of these, 3 of the 4 had an 8+ rating. 2 of these 3 had a 9+ rating. Only 1 that had the 8+ rating was the Hyatt Place. I looked at amenities and they are the same as the Priceline Express deal. Because the said the hotel was rated 8+, Legally, they have to give you the hotel that is at LEAST rated 8+, meaning if something was rated a 7.8, you won't get that hotel. They could be sued for false advertising. If I can be of any further assistance, please reply back :) EDIT: You can easily take bus back to the hotel at/around midnight. Port Authority Bus Terminal is located near Times Square.
  5. Can't really offer much help here, other than to say that slipping the front desk worker a $20 as you check in might get you an upgrade. Present your license, cc, the 20 folded up between the 2 and say: "I am a Marriot Gold Member, would it be possible to get a complimentary upgrade?". Worst comes to worst, they say no!
  6. I will second what thereuare said. You're not going to get anything in NYC for $120-$140 per night in the middle of October. I've stayed at both a Newark Airport hotel AND the Hilton Newark Penn while traveling. If you are only looking to spend what you said, I'd go with the Hilton Newark Penn any day over the Newark Airport hotels. While the rates at the Airport hotels are usually cheaper, it costs more to get into the city, you have to take a shuttle to the airport to catch the train and there is almost nothing to eat (restaurants) near any of the Airport hotels. If you stay at the Newark Hilton Penn, you are directly connected (via covered indoor walkway) to Newark Penn Station, where you can easily get into either Downtown or Midtown Manhattan. If you want to go downtown, it costs $2.50 each way on the PATH and takes about 20 minutes. The cost to get to Midtown (NYC Penn Station) is $5 each way on the NJ Transit and takes about same amount of time. There still isn't a whole lot to eat or see in Newark if you stay at Newark Hilton Penn, but your options are better than the airport hotels. I'd consider looking in Secaucus, NJ. They are usually much cheaper than NYC. A lot of them are located right next to a bus that will take you to NYC (via the Port Authority Bus Terminal) for about $4 and it takes about 20 to 30 minutes or so. I'm pretty sure the buses run all day/night but I *MIGHT* be wrong. Nice thing about this location is there is a ton of restaurants (most franchise, not local), some shopping and it's very safe, all within a 5 minute walk.
  7. Before the admin comes on here and says it, I will :) What area of NYC? NYC has many different zones and depending on where you want to stay, the prices may differ drastically. Typically, Times Square/Theatre District is the most expensive. The "Downtown" zone is lower Manhattan and prices are usually a little better on weekends since it's a huge business area (lower occupancy on weekends due to less business travelers).
  8. Same hotel right now is $253/night on Priceline.Express so you got a pretty good deal :) Lowest room price on the Marriott website right now is $499/night. Based upon this, you saved 54% :)
  9. I'm assuming you meant 10/4 to 10/5 (one night in 2014, NOT 2015 :) Comes up at $177 for the night. If you ask here someone may have a code to save another 5-10%. With taxes (and no discount), you're looking at $220/night.
  10. As of right now Priceline Express has as 3* in Central Park South for $187/night. Only amenity is "pets allowed' so by looking at the list, this would PROBABLY be the Nh Jolly Madison Towers. Not much else anywhere for less than $200/night in the city. Consider venturing to Newark/Harrison (NJ) or Secaucus. Both have easy access to NYC. I'd lean towards staying in Secaucus as it's more a "business" area with a lot more to do/eat than Newark (and probably safer!)
  11. Yup, still see it on the app. Keep in mind if you're looking at different dates (on desktop and app), you will see different options and may not see this one.
  12. Amenities for property were same as listed on the Priceline Express Hotel List: Free Internet, Fitness Center, Restaurant, Business Center (Also 8+ Review Score) Wording on hotel website/review boards mentions only free Wifi in public spaces (aka lobby). This is fine with me as I won't be in room much. Interesting that I can't find this express deal on the desktop version. Has this been reported before with differences between the desktop and app as far as them not being in "sync", ie more deals available on app?
  13. Marriott Marquis Times Square for $173/night (using Express Deals). Considering regular room rate is $349/night, I think I got a pretty good deal...of course I'll probably get stuck in a room right next to the trash compactor or something!
  14. Unfortunately there isn't much 4* in the area OTHER than probably the Hilton 31st Street. What exactly is that you are looking for? Do you want the excitement of being at the "tourist area" and all the shops and restuarants? People watching? If it's the quiet you desire because you are a light sleeper, I'd seriously look at either the Cavalier or the Wyndham (56th Street). Both are oceanfront and are a little down (the Wyndham is in a residential area as weird as that seems) from the hustle and bustle of the tourist area. As I said in a previous post, the Cavalier would be a lot easier to get to the shops/restaurants of the tourist area. The Wyndham would involve a drive (or bike ride) to this area I'd seriously consider coming down to the 2.5* level and going with the Fairfield Inn, Country Inn or LaQuinta. For the Fairfield and Country Inn, you're at 18th Street which is right in the middle of the action for restaurants and shops, Free Breakfast. Rooms are decent. You're on the oceanfront, although you might get a "city view" room. The LaQuinta is at 28th Street and Pacific, so it's a little bit quieter, but still only 1.5 (short) blocks to the beach. Plenty of parking. Still close (walking distance) to a nice Harris Teeter grocery store, along with the restaurants and shops. The Fairfield inn gets 4.5 stars on TA, the Country and LaQuinta get 4 stars In Virginia Beach, figure about 16 streets to a mile. The "tourist area" is widely considered to be about 2.5 miles long from 1st to 40th streets, where the boardwalk runs. There are a couple of hotels on Priceline Express that meet your criteria. Both a 3* and a 2.5* for about $155/night plus tax. The 2.5 star would be the Country Inn and Suites above. Includes free breakfast. I'd pull the trigger on that. Comes to $734 with tax. All rooms are non-smoking. Supposedly every room is oceanview, but I honestly can't remember if this is true of not. Make sure you use the PRICELINE links on the forum. Any further assistance, let me know. Heppy to help.
  15. Quick search on Hotwire has 3* in Times Square for $157/night ($588 all in) with following amenities: Boutique, Restaurant, Business Center, Hi Speed Internet. After cross checking on the Hotwire Hotel List, this is looking to be the AMSTERDAM COURT HOTEL Looked on lmtclub.com (Free membership, try CLUBINSIDER167), this same hotel is $138/nt ($509 all in)...Sorry mods, just trying to save her money not send business elsewhere.. :) It gets 3.5 stars on TripAdvisor. Good location. Close to several subway stops. As always, YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary).
  16. Please let me know if you have any questions about VB area hotels as I am a local to the area and am familiar with all the hotels. There is a 3* on Price.line right now for the Cavalier Hotel. It's a hotel at 42nd street, so it's just at the edge of all the hotels and "tourist area". That being said, it's literally 1.5 blocks to the "boardwalk" and all those tourist things. A couple of nice local eateries nearby, but anything you could want is within that 2.5 mile stretch (each way) of the boardwalk. All the rooms are "oceanview" meaning if you strain your head on your balcony, you'll see the water. Free continental breakfast. Free parking. A good hotel overall. They are getting ready for a complete overhaul of the old historic hotel and I believe in late September will be closing the "newer" part that is still open. If you are interested, another option would be to stay on the Chesapeake Bay at the Virginia Beach Resort Hotel and Conference Center. Currently on Price.line for $172/night. Here's why people like this hotel...While not directly at the VB Oceanfront, you are on Shore Drive, about 5 miles from the "tourist" area. All rooms are balcony with "ocean views". Beach is really nice. Not as crowded. They have two pools. If you're the outdoorsy type, it's convenient to First Landing State Park and all kinds of easy hiking trails (If you get a chance to go at all, go. It's worth it). Lastly, you are close to some good restaurants, as there is seafood, casual, sushi, mexican and a lot of others nearby. If you want the full oceanfront, large windows, balcony overlooking the water experience, expect to pay. Keep in mind, these are the most popular rooms and average about 90% occupancy in the summer time. Any questions about areas/things to do/eat, let me know. Here to help.
  17. Midtown East 3.5* for $162/nith with following amenities on Priceline.Express: Restaurant, Fitness, Business Center 8.0 Rating Leads me to believe its Hotel Boutique at Grand Central Total would be $594 with taxes included. A week earlier I got 4* Intercontinental Barclay for $152/night on Priceline.Express. There is also a 3.5* for $165/nt (611 total) in Midtown West with 7.0+ Rating Looks to be Club Quarters Rockefeller Center Not sure which is closer to the tourist stuff. I'm assuming Hotel Boutique by looking on Google Maps. Either way, make sure you use PRICELINE links in the forum..
  18. Human561, glad I could be of some assistance. Do me a favor and let me know what kind of room you get so I know what to expect a few days later.
  19. If you're willing to look a little further south, Priceline.Express has a 4* in Madison Square Garden/Convention zone with amenities of pet friendly, restaurant, business center and fitness center for $149/night. Judging from hotel list, this is probably going to be Wyndham New Yorker. Less than a block to subway station.
  20. Welcome to the site. I am relatively new to the site, as well, but want to share a few things I have picked up. 1. Check the forums for the "re-bidding process". Here's the link to the one by an admin (about halfway down the page) that explains how to do this pretty well. You'll just have to adjust your zones: http://www.betterbidding.com/index.php?showtopic=198251 2. Always check the "hotel lists" for Priceline as they are pretty accurate and useful. I keep multiple windows open and am always cross-checking stars and amenities 3. Check Priceline Express deals. Right now, there is one avail in Midtown East for $165 (plus taxes/fees). You could probably figure out from the amenities and review score (7.0) which one it is by doing a little research. 4. ALWAYS use the "Priceline" links in the forum :) I'm sure others can offer a lot more, but since I am technically at work and should be doing something, I'll keep this short :)
  21. First time using betterbidding and Price.line. Followed all steps forum admins have mentioned, including the rebidding process Started off in TS with 4 star, then added MSG, MW, CPS and MTE. Started bidding at $110, eventually, after following rebidding process steps, got up to $145 and was rejected. Checked again tonight on Priceline.Express and saw 4* in Midtown East, 8.0 rating, with following amenities for $152: Pet Friendly, Restaurant, Business Center, Fitness Center Based upon the PL NY Hotel Lists for 4*, I was able to narrow down the list pretty quickly: W hotel, Affina 50, Doubletree Metropolitan and the IC Barclay Really, the only 2 that met the full amenity list were the W hotel and the IC Barclay (again, realizing amenity list may have changed/updated) Cross checked the hotel ratings on regular Price.line and that eliminated the W Hotel and the Doubletree.. Pulled the trigger and got the Intercontinental Barclay. Wanted to say a huge thanks to all the regular contributors for the help with the bidding process(es). Between this forum and the hotel lists you have compiled, it made it a lot easier to have a good guess as to what I may be getting. Yes, I used the PRICELINE links in the forums! You guys rock. Thanks for all you do. Hope the hotel is nice. Not sure what to expect...
