  1. Oops - - sorry about that. The name of the hotel is Clarion Hotel - Universal in the Universal zone and has the following amenities: Pool(s) Restaurant Hi-Speed Internet ~Kathy
  2. Went through the HOTWIRE link on the site :) Amenities: Restaurant, Business Center, Pool 220+ Reviews on Tripadvisor $57 a night
  3. That's what I was afraid of, thereuare. The other ironic thing is right after someone said they hadn't seen the Renaissance pop up in a while on Priceline, wolly1000 just won a bid to the Renaissance. I've got some thinking to do. BTW, does Priceline add a set fee to the winning bid? Is it higher than Hotwire? ~Kathy
  4. Wow! Looks like I missed the boat. I just checked Hotwire again for the same week 7/5 - 7/8 and the price has jumped from $109 to $164 for the Peabody (only 4 star listed in the Seaworld area). I guess they must have snagged a convention. Now we may have to back things up to the end of July. Here's another question ~ if Hotwire has raised the price that much what are the chances of still getting a price under $100 on Priceline for the 5th through the 8th. ~Kathy
  5. Thanks all for the replies. I think that I am going to gamble on Priceline but have to wait until tomorrow when DH makes sure that those dates work for his vacation time. I do have a couple of questions. Where did the savingsbarn.com link go for Priceline? Do you still want us to book through this site? Also, most people seem to have won bids for the Peabody at $75 a nite. One recent poster, though, who started that low was finally able to get the Peabody at $92 for the same week that I want. Should I start at $75 or figure that since it's the same week, I'll have to pay more and start at a higher amount? Thanks, Kathy
  6. Hi thereuare, Thanks for your quick reply! Yes, when I did a Hotwire search there was only one 4 star hotel and the amenities matched the Peabody perfectly: Fitness center/pool/restaurant/business center/high speed Internet/tennis nearby. So what do you think? Should I chance Priceline instead? Now Hotwire is showing a price of $109. ~Kathy
  7. Hi, I am planning a trip to Orlando in July (7/5 - 7/8) and want to stay at the Peabody Hotel. I noticed that Hotwire lets you select just the Seaworld area that restricts the 4 star hotels to just the Peabody (at least according to the Hotwire forum list). Priceline has a broader area which includes SeaWorld and Universal. According to the Priceline forum list, that also includes the Renaissance as a 4 star in that area. I'm trying to stay away from the Renaissance because of the construction. Plus, I've always wanted to stay at the Peabody. I did notice that someone else got the Peabody through Priceline for $91 for the same week that I want to go there. Hotwire has it (at least I think it is the Peabody) for $112. So would I be safer with going with Hotwire with the more restricted area to increase my chances of getting the Peabody? Is anyone familiar enough with this area to know if the Renaissance comes up frequently? I know that I see a lot of posts of winning bids for the Peabody. Thanks in advance for any advice or help you can give me. ~Kathy
  8. Just got back from our stay at the Gaylord Palms Resort and I thought I would give a review: The Gaylord Palms Resort was very nice. However, you need to be aware of surcharges that will quickly add up. The $126 price I got through Hotwire was only the beginning. There is a $10 a night resort fee that covers High-Speed Internet access, water in refrigerator, and daily newspaper. Then you need to add the parking fees. We got there late at night and the self-parking was rather confusing so we used Valet Parking. The next day we found out that there is a $17.50 a night Valet parking charge in addition to the tips. So we switched to self-parking and there was still a fee of $10.70 per day. So when you added the taxes, resort fees, and parking fees, we paid approximately $165 a night for our stay. The food in the restaurants onsite was also very pricey. My husband and I ate breakfast at the Villa De Flora buffet and paid $43.00 for the two of us. Needless to say, we didn't even try dinner at the hotel. The 4-acre Atrium was very cool and I really liked that each room had a computer provided with Internet Access. You could also check you hotel account online and order any housekeeping services online. We were impressed with the service we received at this hotel. We had put on the electronic "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door while my husband was working from the hotel room and guest services called him around 4 o'clock that afternoon and asked him if there was anything that we needed. He told them that we needed towels and they were at our door within 3 minutes. The housekeeper also used that opportunity to empty the wastebaskets and do a quick bathroom clean up. Be forewarned that Frommer's is not correct in stating that every room has a balcony. Our room did not have a balcony but the hotel did accommodate my request for a non-smoking room. All in all, a nice stay in a comfortable, clean room with great service and pricey restaurants and spa services. If you are not there for a convention or spa vacation, then I think I would stay at a less pricey hotel. My husband who travels a lot on business said that the Embassy Suites rooms are as nice as the one we stayed in at the Gaylord Palms. Just out or curiosity, I wandered around various floors in different wings and peaked into the rooms that the housekeeping staff had left open while working. The room we got through Hotwire was just as nice as any regular room in the hotel. The hotel rooms off the atrium had balconies, though. I hope this review helps anyone who is considering a 4 star stay at the Orlando Disney Main gate. ~Kathy
  9. thereuare, I noticed you changed the name of my thread. You might want to change it to 4* Gaylord Palms $126 (not $116). ~Kathy
  10. Listed as: Disney Main Gate - Champions Gate $126 a night Amenities listed: Resort, Restaurant, Pool(s), Fitness, Spa, High Speed Internet, Children's Activity Program, Golf Dates requested: 6/7/06 - 6/10/06 Turned out to be the Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center in Kissimmee, Florida After checking out the website, I am even more pleased. The only downside I can see is that there is a surcharge for the highspeed Internet access which my husband needs for business reasons. I checked all of the main online hotel reservations sites and couldn't find a room at the Gaylord Palms Resort for under $199 a night for those same dates so Hotwire saved me quite a bit of money. I have also found only glowing reviews of the hotel. I am calling in the morning to request a non-smoking room. The Omni also had a resort fee of $10 a day which I can't find on the Gaylord website but I have a feeling they will have one also. ~Kathy
  11. I thought I'd let you know the final outcome. I decided to splurge and went for the 4* resort in Disney Main Gate - Champion Gate area. Considering the amenities and location, I was sure it would be the Omni. I was surprised to learn after booking that it was the Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention center. It actually worked out better for me since it was closer to my mom's assisted living center which was the main purpose of the visit. I was just surprised since the Gaylord Palms is in Kissimmee but did not appear when I checked the Kissimmee area. I paid $126 a night for the 4 star resort. I'm happy especially since this was all so last minute. Thanks for your help. ~Kathy
  12. I have another question. I found a 3* hotel in Kissimmee which only has tw amenities listed ~ pool and high speed Internet. Why would a 3* hotel have so few amenities? Is it possible they are just not listing some of the other amenities? Thanks, ~Kathy
  13. It looks like it is gone now. I guess I waited too long. ~Kathy
  14. Hello. I'm a newbie and have never used Hotwire before. I am planning to spend three nights in Orlando from 6/7/06 to 6/10/06. I found a 3* in Orlando at Champions gate for $77 a night that is listed as a customer favorite. The amenities are: Restaurant, pool, fitness, tennis, business, laundry. None of the 3* hotels on the hotwire list match the amenities exactly. The closest match is Radisson Worldgate except the Radisson also lists golf. Can anyone help out a newbie here? Thanks, ~Kathy
