  1. Thank you for the replies. Yes, I *know* there's no guarantee of 2 beds on Priceline, but I've never had any trouble negotiating this on check-in. It's a risk I'm comfortable with. And while the AE sounds charming, some of the reports I've read on Trip Adisor -- "...wallpaper in the room was literally falling off the wall...the bathroom was very old and not very clean...it looks as though not a cent has been spent on updating the hotel in 30 years" give me pause. The friend I'm travelling with would be very dissapointed about things like this.
  2. My back-up hotel is the Hilton Garden Inn -- 3*, $250 per night. This was the best value for the $ I could find. Need 2 beds and a little more space than the Tremont or Allerton, plus it's the only hotel that doesn't bump its rate up by $100 (or more!) on the Saturday of our stay. (I think that's when the convention begins). I also like the location, so at this point, only a great Priceline/Hotwire deal on a 4* will do. The trip is still a month away, will keep you posted. Thanks!
  3. Wow -- I had not noticed! Thanks for pointing this out to me! FYI No results so far. I've bid as high as $175 ...must be a busy weekend! I have a back-up ressie for $250.00 per night, which I can live with -- especially since most 4* in the area are in the $300-350 range. I am using your PRICELINE link. I'll keep everyone posted. Thanks again!
  4. Following up per Thereuare's request, even though this is an old thread: As best I can recall: I did not use Hotwire on this particular trip because I wasn't willing to risk the selection for the price. I did, however, bid $75 on Priceline, which was accepted by The Hyatt Regency -- !! Very ironic, in that it was fear of getting The Hyatt that kept me from bidding on Hotwire. However, I ended up being delighted with the choice. The Hyatt was just fine: good location, good service, clean and comfortable room. A great value for the money. Belated thanks to everyone for their help!
  5. I will, but need to clarify the post you are mentioning was 2 years ago -- and I confused it with details of my last Chicago trip (last year, 2007). The outcome was a little different ...
  6. Hmm ... goodness, my apologies! Didn't know everyone was so interested??? My last trip to Chicago, secured 2 rooms at the Chicago Hilton, $89 each, during Lollapalooza, so it was quite the Priceline score. And yes, I used your "Priceline" link, and am doing so now (with no results, alas). Travel dates 10/2-10/5; realize there is a convention starting on 10/4. Have figured out by reading other posts that LP is a free re-bid zone for 4* bids. <Humble and chastened ....>
  7. I've been trying to bid a hotel in Chicago for 10/2-10/5 (no luck so far!) Noticed there is a new hotel zone on Priceline: Lincoln Park. Does anyone have any experience with this, which hotel(s) are included and what * level they may be? I'm guessing the Best Western Hawthorne Terrace is one -- any others? I'm bidding for 4* NMA or Loop, and my understanding is that this hotel is a 2* or possible 3*. Which would mean Linolcn Park is now a free re-bid zone - a good thing! Please let me know .. thanks!
  8. I saw that too and was wondering about it! I love that hotel and the location. The rating systems are so confusing -- hard for me to understand how the Hyatt -- which is almost universally hated -- is a 4* , whil the PHH - lovely, well-run and located, is only a 3.5*. Defintely going to give it a try -- wish me luck! thanks for your help everyone! Brooke
  9. My apologies -- yes there is a business icon. to recap: 5/31-6/5 4* Mag Mile/Wacker Customer favorite restaurant, workout facility, spa, Internet, business center $97 per night many thanks! Brooke
  10. 4* Mag Mile/wacker Drive Customer Favorite Rest., Spa, work-out, Internet $97 per night I thought this might be Swissotel, since other posters are getting this hotel pretty frequently. But after reading the hotel description, it looks like it could also be the Hyatt Regency - ack! (Can't beleive this place could be considered either "4*" or a cusomer favorite, but that's apost for a different forum! :) How can I distinguish between them? Doesn't Swissotel have a pool? thanks for your help! Brookside
