  1. Well...I ended up booking on OneTravel. Got a room @ the Hawthorne Inn for $73 per night. Less than a mile from the Millennium Center, so I'm happy...but I'm not so happy with OneTravel. Strange policies and surly customer service. Sorry I didn't help solve any hotel mysteries this time!
  2. Were you able to determine what hotel that was?
  3. OK. I wasn't sure I'd get any responses as to which hotels Priceline would be offering in that area if I posted on the Hotwire page. I figured more PL users would see it if I posted on that particular board. Seems to be a dearth of info on hotels in this area ,so I wanted to cover every possible angle. A bit late for me to ask this, but is there a separate board altogether I should be using to ask info in? (Still finding my way 'round here) ps -- your nic reminds me of that great scene in _Vampire's Kiss_!
  4. OK, thanks! If I ID. it, I'll post the info here. Got it. Does that mean the 3* I'm trying to ID on priceline would be the same property as the 3* on Hotwire?
  5. Looking in zone "Winston-Salem" -- Anyone have any idea what the 3*(s) might be?
  6. 3-star hotel in Downtown - Coliseum ~ $80 Restaurant(s), Pool(s), Fitness Center, High-speed Internet Access, Business Center
  7. Oops... the 2* was in zone B. They only have the one 3* hotel in Downtown - Coliseum in zone A.
  8. I wasn't sure what the policies were for hotels to give rooms to the discounters. I was hoping the rooms had been already slated for HW or PL before they had sold out. Millennium Center is at the very south end of Zone A. HW has a 3* hotel in Downtown - Coliseum at $88, and 2-star hotel in Winston-Salem South - Clemmons at $139. Obviously the 3* is the better deal, but in this case proximity is the most important thing.
  9. We're staying in Winston-Salem 6/30-7/3. We want to be as close to the Millenium center as possible. I searched the fourmu, but didn't find much to go on. The Marriot and Embassy Suites (both on Cherry Street) have NO rooms available, but I'm hoping rooms might be offered on Priceline or Hotwire. Any suggestions? Thanks!
  10. "When it backfires it has always been to "user error"... either not understanding re-bid zones or not doublechecking to see that a re-bid zone still qualifies as such." The PEBKAC error. :) Thanks for all the info!
  11. "If rejected at the 3* level you would have had two re-bid zones available.: As I understand it, I could rebid if I added zones that only had _lower_ * ratings than I selected in order to insure I wouldn't actually get anything in those undesired zones. Is that right? How foolproof is that method? Has anyone ever gotten stuck winning in a location they didn't want? ps - I realized this wasn't the same Hilton we'd stayed at before (that was the "Inn at Penn"). We liked this one better, and the location was quite good.
  12. If I had lowered my bid when going down to 3*, and I was rejected, would I have had to change something (area, star rating) in order to rebid at a higher rate?
  13. ::Newbie here:: We needed a room in Philly for the coming weekend. I'd seen some good prices on Hotwire a week or 2 ago, but our plans weren't final yet. When I tried to book yesterday, the cheapest price I could find on any site was about $108 (and not for a hotel I wanted). I found your site while googling, scanned the boards for a bit, then tried Priceline (via savingsbarn.com). 1st bid for $78 / 4* / downtown area was rejected. I upped it to $81 & expanded to 3* (same area) and got the Hilton. Not my 1st choice (we stayed once before & didn't love it, but I guess we can't always get the Hyatt!), but it's just a mile from the event we're attending and a good price (especially for last minute). Two day total w/ taxes & fees: $193.93 This is a great resource. Thanks!
