  1. Hi again, I'm still checking both Hot.wire and Price.line and I'm afraid I'll have to go down to 2* because all the 3* and above are far too expensive. I'm seeing a 2* hotel on Hot.wire (Nob Hill - Chinatown area) for $95 (it was around $88 yesterday). The amenities are Free Internet, Business Center, Internet access, Tennis Nearby. There's also another 2* hotel on Priceline.express deals (Union Square East - Nob Hill) for $87 with free internet and bed choice available. I could get two twin beds, which I prefer. Any idea which these two hotels may be?
  2. At some point they asked for my email to check if the prices dropped. I gave them my email and got the message. I've got more ever since for other searches I've made.
  3. I haven't started bidding yet. I'm going to give it some time and see if the prices on Priceline Express Deals or Hotwire are a bit lower and then see what I decide. I've got a backup plan at $100 per night with free cancelation. It's a well situated 2* hotel with private bathroom. My question is... What are the odds of bidding for a 2* hotel and getting a room with shared bathroom? Would it be specified anywhere? I'm not sure yet what to do. As soon as I do anything, I'll post it here. Thanks again for your valuable help.

  5. OK guys, I got an email with a nice deal from Hotwire. A 4* hotel in Midtown Central (which was my preferred area) and got The Shoreham Hotel for $114 per night. I didn't follow the link on the email, instead, I went to the support page here and click on the HOTWIRE link to give you credit for the help. I'm still trembling as this was a lot of money and I wasn't sure whether the decision was the right one but, anyway, I'll check the reviews... There's no way back. The details for the trip were: NYC Midtown Central. Price: $114 (it was fluctuating between that and $116). Amenities: Free Internet Pet friendly Boutique Hotel Fitness Center Restaurant(s) Business Center Self service laundry Internet access Spa Services EDIT TO INCLUDE SOME EXTRA INFO: I got billed $875.71 including taxes and fees. I've found the same room on Expedia for $982.20.
  6. Thanks for the tip. I tried your strategy last night with no luck. I'll keep trying for next few days and keep you updated.
  7. Yes, I do see "internet access" and Ramada Limited Marina del Rey is way too far from the Santa Monica Pier so I'm not going to use any of the opaque providers. Thanks again for your help.
  8. The only hotel I could afford on HOTWIRE would be a 2* hotel 80% recommended, free internet, free parking, free breakfast for $125. Any idea which one it could be?
  9. My maximum for a 4* hotel is $140. Could you suggest a strategy for the aforementioned areas? Also, I'm not going to use the 10% discount on Express deals since I've got plenty of time and I'm sure there'll be other discounts.
  10. Hi again, I'm new to this whole world of bidding but I know I can't bid on HOTWIRE. I was just using the data to figure out what the average prices are. As I explained before, I'd like to bid on PRICELINE up to a maximum of $130 for the Union Square areas (both East and West) and I'd be interested in a 3* hotel. Could you help me, please?
  11. I'm willing to stay only in Santa Monica but the area also includes Marina del Rey which is a way too long walk, so I guess I'll stick to one of the cheap motels within walking distance to the Pier rather than running the risk of being a few kms apart from my friends. Thank you for your help.
  12. Hello, I'm going to San Francisco for four days. I'm checking the prices of hotels around Union Square and they're really expensive. The cheapest thing I could find on PRICELINE EXPRESS Deals was $200 for a 3* on USW. I didn't want to pay more than $130 for a 3* on either USW or USE. The cheapest hotel on HOTWIRE costs $172. It's on Nob Hill - Chinatown (I'd be willing to bid for the 4 areas Union Square is divided on HOTWIRE). Is it peak season in San Francisco? I wouldn't mind lowering the category of the hotel rather than spending more money but most 2* hotels have terrible ratings on Tripadvisor. Thanks.
  13. Sorry if I didn't explain things clearly. I'm going to go for a 4* in these three areas. I've just started bidding at $118 (TS), 120 (TS+MTW) and 123 (TS+MTW+MTE) and have been rejected. Since I've got plenty of time, my plan is to go slowly and up to a maximum of $140. Then, if I don't get anything, try the 3*1/2 with the same strategy and then go for the 3* starting a bit lower and trying not to surpass the $120 limit. Do you think it can work out? I'm not going to rush. Thanks again.
  14. My preferred zones would be the three ones described above (TS, MTE and MTW). The minimum star rating would be 3* and the maximum bid would be $140-150 (which is what you can actually get applying the 10% promo code on express deals) but I'd like to keep it to $120. Thanks for your help.
  15. Last night I tried to bid for a 4* at $125 and was (obviously) rejected. I see a 3* hotel in Times Square with Free internet, business center, restaurant and bed choice available for $153 and also two more hotels for $167 (Midtown West - pets allowed, restaurant, business center, bed choice available) and $169 (Midtown East - Free internet, restaurant, business center, fitness center, bed choice available). Any idea what these hotels may be? Also, what would be a good bidding strategy (for these three zones)? PS: I don't know if this message is in the right place as we're talking about Priceline and not Hotwire.
  16. I've got some friends who are staying at an expensive hotel near the pier and I was wondering... what are the odds of getting a nearby hotel on a budget? I won't have a car, so Marina del Rey is not an acceptable place. I know the area is quite big and my trip would take place in the summer when I guess it's a peak season. I need a double room between July 31st and August 2nd for about $150 per night tops. I've seen one for $126 on Hotwire with free breakfast. Any idea which may be? Thanks.
  17. Hello, I've been reading this forum for a while and decided to post my questions and see if I find help. My brother and I are visiting NYC for 6 days and are searching for a hotel where most of the touristic attractions are placed: Times Square, MoMA, Metropolitan, Science Museum, Theaters,... We don't care about fancy restaurants or pretty little boutique hotels (but we don't want a shared-bathroom or to get bitten by bedbugs (it's happened to me before in Amsterdam). We were thinking Midtown Central or Times Square as these areas are very well located. We're on a budget and wouldn't like to pay more than 120$ a night (with city taxes and everything it goes up to over 140 which is a bit more than 100€ a night). I'm getting a $112 2-star hotel in Times Square-Theater District and 2-and-a-half hotel in the same place for $144. Do you think these are good options? Should I exand my circle and choose a different area? Or is it worth it paying $155 for the 3/4 star hotels in Midtown Central? Also, last time my brother and I shared a bed was when we were very little. We are both very light sleepers but I know finding a two-bed room will be much more expensive. What are the possibilities of getting stuck with a double bed (smaller than 140 cm)? EDIT: I've booked the Ramada New York Eastside with free cancelation for $165 just to have something secured until I decide to book thru either Hotwire or Priceline (if I ever do so) Thanks for your help.
