  1. Shoot, just realized that I forgot to use my $3/day Priceline bonus money!
  2. First time using PRICELINE for rental cars. Noticed that HOTWIRE had compact cars for $14.95/day so I decided to lowball a PRICELINE offer. To my surprise, $10 was accepted! I should have tried lower! Congratulations AEmgee, you got your price of $10.00 per day for your Compact rental car. Your complete rental car itinerary is shown below. Pick-Up Date: April 19, 2008 - 6:00 PM Drop-Off Date: April 22, 2008 - 6:00 PM Your Offer Price: $10.00 (per day) Total Rental Days: 3 days Subtotal: $30.00 Taxes and Fees: $24.14 Total Charges: $54.14 Anyhow, can't argue with it. The price on Hertz.com was $65/day.
  3. Congratulations, your price of $72 was accepted by Best Western City Centre/Centre-Ville. Best Western City Centre/Centre-Ville Quebec 330 De La Couronne Quebec City, Quebec G1K 6E6 418-649-1919 Check-In Date: Sat, Apr 19, 2008 Check-Out Date: Tue, Apr 22, 2008 Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: US$72.00 Subtotal: US$216.00 Taxes & Service Fees: US$43.95 Total Charges: US$259.95 Bid of $71 failed. Beauport is a free rebid in this area. Neither of the known 4* hotels (Loews Le Concorde or Hilton Quebec) had availability for these nights. I did try 4* up to $110 to no avail. Best price on the Best Western website was CAD$115.99/night = CAD$347.97 for 3 nights after taxes and service charge, so the Priceline price wasn't too bad. Hotwire had a match for this property for $79/night = $279.25 for 3 nights. Exact same dates and property as cowpeer's previous priceline bid, about one month ago. Maybe I will see him/her there!
  4. I might have bid too hastily for this, as the price on HOTWIRE is now $115/night...
  5. Your Price Was Accepted Congratulations, you got your price of $115 for a 4-star hotel room. The Westin Fort Lauderdale Ft Lauderdale North 400 Corporate Drive Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33334-3642 954-772-1331 Check-In Date: Fri, Feb 15, 2008 Check-Out Date: Sun, Feb 17, 2008 Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $115.00 Subtotal: $230.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $37.04 Total Charges: $267.04 It was very tough bidding for this President's Day weekend. I tried various combinations in Fort Lauderdale and Miami with no success. Hotwire had this hotel for $139/night. Bid of $114 was rejected, with a counteroffer for $22 more. Best price on Westin.com was $209/night (best available rate to the public) or $161/night (government rate). Now the problem is a car rental... they want $66/day for an ECONOMY?!? :)
  6. 1. Ziplined over the tropical rainforest in Costa Rica. 2. I'd like to go to Iguazu Falls.
  7. I noticed that Priceline now offers the "Name Your Own Price" option for select South American destinations. In particular: Buenos Aires, ARGENTINA = 3* and 2* Lima, PERU = 4* and 3* Any idea which hotels Priceline would have? I note that on their opaque side they list the following: Buenos Aires, ARGENTINA 4* (not available to bid) Hilton Buenos Aires, Intercontinental Buenos Aires, Marriott Plaza Hotel Buenos Aires 3* Golden Tulip Savoy Hotel, Dazzler Tritone, Imperial Park Hotel, Colon Hotel, Aspen Towers Hotel, Dazzler Suites Arroyo, Feirs Park Hotel, Melia Recoleta Plaza, Dazzler Libertad, Esplendor De Buenos Aires 2* Howard Johnson Express Inn Buenos Aires Ag, Best Western Monumental Hotel & Spa, Abasto Plaza Hotel, Holiday Inn Express Puerto Madero Lima, PERU 4* JW Marriott, Del Pilar Miraflores Hotel, Melia Lima 3* Sheraton Lima Hotel and Casino, Delfines Summit Hotel And Casino It might be very risky being a guinea pig for these places (especially Lima), as having a hotel in a poor location could be downright dangerous!
  8. Your Price Was Accepted Congratulations, you got your price of $37 for a 3-star hotel room. Radisson Worldgate Resort Disney World Vicinity 3011 Maingate Lane Kissimmee, Florida 34747 407-396-1400 See Hotel Website Check-In Date: Mon, Nov 12, 2007 Check-Out Date: Tue, Nov 13, 2007 Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $37.00 Subtotal: $37.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $12.06 Total Charges*: $49.06 The reviews on this hotel are just awful. Hope it's not as bad as it sounds! Bid of $36 was rejected. Best price at Radisson.com was $129.
  9. Thank you for using Hotwire! Hawaii Prince Hotel Waikiki 100 Holomoana St Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii 96815 (808) 956-1111 1 room; 1 nights Check-in: Mon, Nov 5, 2007 at 3:00 PM Check-out: Tue, Nov 6, 2007 at 12:00 PM 1 room(s) @ $155.00 per night x 1 nights: $155.00 Taxes and Fees: $25.37 Hotel Subtotal: $180.37 Amenities: Oceanfront, Fitness Center, Pool(s), Restaurant(s), Business Center, High-speed Internet Access, Spa Services Lowest price on the Hawaii Prince website was $185 for a Senior's Rate, or $219 for non-Seniors. I didn't want to try Priceline because the Ala Moana Hotel had an online rate of $125, and likely I would have won that hotel instead of the Hawaii Prince.
  10. Sadly, I just noticed elsewhere that another poster got this hotel for $110 in November! :)
  11. Your Price Was Accepted Congratulations, you got your price of $136 for a 4-star hotel room. Hawaii Prince Hotel Waikiki Marina Area 100 Holomoana Street Honolulu, Hawaii 96815 808-956-1111 Check-In Date: Tue, Oct 30, 2007 Check-Out Date: Sat, Nov 3, 2007 Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $136.00 Subtotal: $544.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $82.60 Total Charges*: $626.60 I tried $135 and got a counteroffer of $22 more. Best price on the Hawaii Prince website was $219/night. Hotwire had a match for $164/night. I was pretty confident that I wouldn't get the less desirable Ala Moana Hotel since it only had Ocean View rooms at $175/night remaining (instead of the cheaper city view rooms).
  12. I'm not sure what to make of this bid - I won with my first lowball offer! Did I pay too much? Or did I get a really great price?!? I've never seen it go for this low... Your Price Was Accepted Congratulations, you got your price of $120 for a resort hotel room. Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort & Spa Kona 78128 Ehukai Street Kailua Kona, Hawaii 96740 808-930-4900 Check-In Date: Sat, Nov 3, 2007 Check-Out Date: Mon, Nov 5, 2007 Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $120.00 Subtotal: $240.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $39.00 Total Charges*: $279.00 Best price on Sheraton.com was $179. It looked like there was a match for this hotel on Hotwire for $159. There ARE free rebids in this zone, but I never really thought $120 would win!
  13. I stayed three nights at the Radisson Toronto East in North York from September 7-10, 2007. My winning bid was $53 on Priceline. The hotel is conveniently located just off the 401 highway and close to the Don Valley Parkway. Without traffic (rare in Toronto), one can get to downtown within fifteen minutes. The hotel is close to a Chinese supermarket, Wendy's and Subway in a nearby strip mall. Parking was free and ample. My flight arrived in the evening and it was a thirty-minute drive to the hotel on the crowded 401. Upon check-in, I was told that I booked through Priceline. I asked for a king non-smoking and was told that the hotel was completely sold out and that none were available. I was assigned room 225, a non-smoking room with two queen beds, which was one of the worst rooms I have ever stayed in. The carpets were stained and there was lots of mold growing everywhere in the bathroom. The entire room seemed very unclean. The bed, which was not a Sleep Number bed, had rough sheets and nasty old blankets. The fixtures in the bathroom were old and the hot water barely came on in the shower. There was neither a fridge nor microwave as I had read in other reviews. There was no mini-safe. The bypass mirror closet doors were broken (one half was actually inside the closet, not on the tracks). The ceiling panel had water stains as clearly the air conditioning system (which didn't really cool very well) had previously sprung a leak. I called down to the Front Desk and asked for a different room with a Sleep Number bed, but was told that the same "fully booked; no other rooms available tonight." I was informed that most of the rooms on the second floor did not have Sleep Number beds. The next morning I went down to the Front Desk and asked for a different room. There was a line-up at the Front Desk because there is no Concierge Desk, and guests checking in/out and those asking for directions all waited to talk to the same people. I asked for a king, non-smoking room with a Sleep Number bed on a higher floor. I was told that there were no rooms cleaned yet, but to come back later to put my luggage in storage, and that later in the day I would be assigned to a new room. I gathered my belongings and went back to the front desk. The person to whom I had spoken about the room change was not at the desk any longer. I spoke to another Front Desk staffer who told me that another room was not available because the hotel was fully booked for the night. When I mentioned that I had already confirmed the change in room not ten minutes ago, then suddenly she offered to store my bags and find me another room later in the day. While I was at the Front Desk, a couple (who had booked through Expedia) were very unhappy with something and demanded to speak to the General Manager. That evening, I was assigned room 618 which was leaps and bounds better inside, even though it was across the hall from the ice machine and facing the noisy Hwy 401. At least the carpet and bathroom were clean and unstained, the closet door worked, the bed was a Sleep Number Bed with soft linens and down comforter, the hair dryer was newer, and the furniture was in much better shape. There was neither a fridge nor a microwave. Both rooms did have one bottle of free Naya water, which was nice. I didn't get a chance to use many of the facilities at the hotel except I did use one of the two desktop computers in the lobby to check-in for my flight. There is free in-room wired Internet but it is slow and at times non-existent. Apparently, there is also WiFi in the lobby and public areas. I saw a poster in the elevator stating that on Wednesday evenings, there are free hors d'oeuvres and wine courtesy of the manager - all one needs to do is to present a business card. The hotel also offers a courtesy limousine service to nearby offices for business people. In summary, the Radisson Toronto East is an aging hotel with a convenient location near Hwy 401 and the Don Valley Parkway. Nice features include Sleep Number Bed (if you can get one), and free parking and Internet. Negative aspects of my stay: "Priceline attitude," terrible rooms on the 2nd floor (leave or complain if you get one of these), inconsistent staff, and no Concierge. I would not recommend staying at this hotel and would hope that the Radisson chain reviews this hotel to see if those rooms on the second floor meet their minimum standards. The first room was worse than many 2.5* hotels I have stayed at and Radisson should be embarrassed to house any guests - Priceline or otherwise - in such decrepit accommodations.
  14. Took a gamble and lost... Your Price Was Accepted Congratulations, you got your price of $60 for a 3-star hotel room. Doubletree Hotel Seattle Airport Seattle Airport (SEA) 18740 Pacific Highway South Se Seattle, Washington 98188 206-246-8600 Check-In Date: Sat, Aug 25, 2007 / After 02:00 PM Check-Out Date: Sun, Aug 26, 2007 / 12:00 PM Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $60.00 Subtotal: $60.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $16.32 Total Charges*: $76.32 Bid of $59 failed. Best price at www.doubletree.com was $119.29. I could have gotten something in Bellevue (with free parking) for $75 + taxes/fees = $94 but decided to gamble and try for the Seatac zone for $60 + taxes/fees = $76. I was hoping to get the Radisson Gateway with free parking, but ended up with the Doubletree, which charges $16 + taxes = $17.40. Oh well, at least I can enjoy the cookies!
  15. Your Price Was Accepted Congratulations, you got your price of $43 for a 3-star hotel room. Red Lion Hotel On The River Jantzen Beach North Harbor - Jantzen Beach 909 North Hayden Island Drive Portland, Oregon 97217 503-283-4466 Check-In Date: Fri, Aug 24, 2007 / After 03:00 PM Check-Out Date: Sat, Aug 25, 2007 / 12:00 PM Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $43.00 Subtotal: $43.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $12.67 Total Charges*: $55.67 Bid of $42 failed. Used Beaverton as a free rebid. Not my first choice of location but the price is good! Best price on RedLion.com was $98 (government rate). My usual favorites in Lake Oswego - the Crowne Plaza and Hilton Garden Inn - are both fully booked for this date - maybe there is some event like a wedding? I tried 3* up to $55 and 2.5* up to $35 in the Tigard-Lake Oswego zone, with no success. I also tried 2.5* in Beaverton up to $40 without even as much as a counteroffer.
  16. Heading to Scarborough for a wedding... Your Price Was Accepted Congratulations, you got your price of $53 for a 3-star hotel room. Radisson Hotel Toronto East Vaughan - North York 55 Hallcrown Place Toronto, Ontario M2J 4R1 416-493-7000 Check-In Date: Fri, Sep 7, 2007 Check-Out Date: Mon, Sep 10, 2007 Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: US$53.00 Subtotal: US$159.00 Taxes & Service Fees: US$31.84 Total Charges: US$190.84 Bid of $52 failed. Used Scarborough and Toronto East as free rebids. Best price online at Radisson.com was CAD$115.20/night (~US$110). With the Canadian dollar approaching parity, Priceline saved me about 50%! I'm happy with this hotel as it has free parking whereas the Novotel in the same zone charges $15/night for parking.
  17. The presence of this hotel on Priceline is why I try to use HOTWIRE for Paris in the Eiffel Tower zone... Readaholic: Hope you get one of the new rooms and are happy with your stay! Please write a hotel review upon your return for the rest of us.
  18. This is a continuation of a London stay that had to be split, since there was nothing under $150 for the entire 4-night stay (May 14-18). The first two nights (at the Hilton Islington) were cheaper through Hotwire as I posted here. The latter two nights were cheaper through Priceline. Congratulations, you got your price of $135 for a 4-star hotel room. London Marriott Hotel Maida Vale Regents Park - Baker Street Plaza Parade Maida Vale London, United Kingdom 44-207-5436000 Check-In Date: Wednesday, May 16, 2007 Check-Out Date: Friday, May 18, 2007 Your Offer Price: US$135.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 2 Subtotal: US$270.00 Taxes & Service Fees: US$57.52 Total Charges: US$327.52 $134 was rejected. No 4* was available in any other zone at <$135. Best price on Marriott.com was GBP149, or US$294 per night. I was quite surprised to get this hotel, as Hotwire had a 4* in the Regents Park - Baker St zone at $159 that looked to be a match for the Hilton Metropole. Unfortunately, with the change in hotels it will mean dragging the luggage on the tube from one hotel to the next. :)
  19. Hilton London Islington 53 Upper Street London, N1 0UY United Kingdom 011-44-207-354-7700 Check-in date: Mon, May 14, 2007 Check-out date: Wed, May 16, 2007 1 room(s) @ $99.00 per night x 2 night(s) Hotel subtotal: $198.00 Taxes, recovery charges, and fees: $7.15 Total: $205.15 Amenities: Fitness Center, Restaurant(s), Business Center, High-speed Internet Access I tried bidding on Priceline up to $90 but then quit, because Priceline has much higher taxes and fees (>$40 versus $7 on Hotwire). Best price on Hilton.com was GBP134 (US$264) per night.
  20. Your Price Has Been Accepted Congratulations, you got your price of $59 for a 4-star hotel room. Hyatt Regency Santa Clara 5101 Great America Parkway Santa Clara, California 95054 408-986-0700 Check-In Date: Monday, April 30, 2007 Check-Out Date: Tuesday, May 1, 2007 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Subtotal: $59.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $14.26 Total Charges*: $73.26 Bid of $58 was rejected. Best price on Hyatt.com was $219.
  21. Your Price Has Been Accepted Congratulations, you got your price of $68 for a 4-star hotel room. Hyatt Vineyard Creek Hotel 170 Railroad Street Santa Rosa, California 95401 707-636-7100 Check-In Date: Tuesday, May 1, 2007 Check-Out Date: Wednesday, May 2, 2007 Your Offer Price: $68.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Subtotal: $68.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $16.03 Total Charges*: $84.03 $67 was rejected. Best price at Hyatt.com was $165/night, and Hotwire had it for $89/night, so the savings are not bad. I'm think <$50 would have won a 3* but after my terrible stay at the so-called "3*" Flamingo (motel) last year, I'd rather pay the extra $30 for a better room, even if it's for one night. I really wish Priceline would downgrade the Flamingo! For what it's worth, the listed prices for the 3*s were: Hilton $179 Fountain Grove $169 Sheraton $159 Doubletree $143 Flamingo $99 So the risk for a 3* was definitely not worth it, as the likeliest hotel would be the Flamingo.
  22. I stayed 3 nights at the Crowne Plaza Metropolitan in Ikebukuro from March 3-6, 2007. My winning priceline bid was $95. The hotel is located in Ikebukuro, in the northwest of the of the Yamanoate line that circles Greater Toyko. It is across the street from the Metropolitan Plaza which has an escalator leading to the rail/metro station. It is also one of the stops for the airport limousine bus from Narita which costs about the same as the JR Narita Express train (3000 Yen) but runs a bit more frequently than the train and is also more convenient if one has luggage. My journey aboard the bus took 115 minutes in traffic on a Saturday night. However, I understand that Japan Rail is putting out a tourist pass at the end of March 2007 which will include airport transfers aboard the Narita Express for only 1500 Yen and also a Suica card with 1000 Yen on it, good for transport on most rail, buses, and subways in the Tokyo area. This pass will only be available for tourists at the Narita Airport. When departing Tokyo, I took the Yamanoate line to Shinagawa where I connected with the shinkansen to Kyoto. Upon check-in, I was greeted by a staffer who spoke English well. Since I booked through Priceline, the booking was for the standard double room. I had emailed the hotel in advance requesting a nonsmoking room with larger bed (apparently nonsmoking rooms can be difficult to obtain in this hotel
  23. I completed a 2-night stay at the Renaissance Seoul from February 27 - March 1, 2007. My successful priceline bid was $81. The hotel is located on the south bank of the Han River near the financial district and the COEX Center. I took the Korean Airlines deluxe limousine bus (bus #11A labeled Gangnam (hotels), 13,000 Won) to the hotel which takes about 70 minutes in the absence of terrible traffic. The nearest Seoul Metro station is Yeoksam, which is a 6-minute walk to the west, which involves a slight 30 degree incline. En route is a Starbucks and a Citibank, where one can use foreign bank cards to obtain Korean Won (I also tried at the Hana Bank machine and it wouldn't let me use my card). The station is a smaller Metro station and there is little English. I couldn
  24. Yes, gone are the good ol' days of the Radisson Prince Kuhio! I've been finding Priceline to be less and less of a super deal. But it still beats paying rack rate!
  25. Your Price Has Been Accepted Congratulations, you got your price of $110 for a 3-star hotel room. Sheraton Princess Kaiulani Waikiki City Central 120 Kaiulani Avenue Honolulu, Hawaii 96815 808-922-5811 Check-In Date: Saturday, March 31, 2007 Check-Out Date: Tuesday, April 3, 2007 Your Offer Price: $110.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 3 Subtotal: $330.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $52.55 Total Charges: $382.55 $109 was rejected. Used Diamond Head as a free rebid. Price is only OK - Sheraton.com has it for $140 + taxes = $470.23. Actual savings for 3 nights is $87.68, or about $29/night.
