  1. Hot.wire Help. 4.5* Mag Mile/River North $95 Free Internet, Smoke Free Rooms, Fitness Center, Restaurant(s), Business Center, Internet access, Accessible for the blind, Accessible for the deaf, Accessible path of travel, In-room accessibility, Accessible bathroom, Roll-in shower 3/7-3/8/14 I cannot stay at the James again, my husband will never let me live it down if I book it again. Sofitel or Omni would be AOK, my in-laws are staying at the Intercontinental - so I'd like to avoid it. I wish Hotwire or Priceline had an "exclude" function! Sofitel trending at $160 per night, the James is trending at $165. Tried to cross reference Hotwire reviews against Trip Advisor and came up short - 2154 reviews seem like a TON!
  2. *Update* Review after staying there: We really enjoyed the hotel. The only caveat is that they did not honor our request for a king size bed and the registration clerk was a little snooty about it. He cited us booking on Hotwire as the reason that we did not receive our preferred room style. He also did not offer an upgrade - with or without an extra charge. Upon arriving to our room, I checked the Hilton website to see that "Executive level king rooms" WERE available and we called the front desk and spoke to a different clerk to price an upgrade. We did upgrade at our own cost of $30 per night and clerk was very pleasant and accommodating. The upcharge was well worth it since it included breakfast and the "executive level" cocktail hour each night of our stay. The parking garage was an added bonus since it snowed both days we were there! The hotel is in a business area, right off the highway, nothing is in walking distance and it's not especially central nor charming. It is very much a business type hotel and likely caters to the business park that surrounds it; it was jammed 2 separate medical meetings on our nights there. All in all it was a pleasant stay in a lovely and quiet hotel. I highly recommend inquiring about an upgrade to "executive level" if the breakfast and cocktail hour is of value to you. We would have spent far more than the 2 night total of $60 on 4 cocktails, 2 appetizers and breakfast for 2 on both days! I believe the current price was 129 per night for executive level and we spent $53 (hotwire rate) plus the $30 upgrade for a total of $83 per night - still a bargain. Also, the clerk recommended that we call the hotel directly after receiving our confirmation number to ensure that we receive the room/bed type of choice in the future.
  3. Sorry about that. Yes: Handicapped parking Roll-in shower Are the last two amenities on the list; I must have missed them at the cut and paste stage. Mea culpa!

  7. We were very disappointed in The James. Out initial room was small, dingy and it utterly lacked clothing storage, lighting and charm. It had the smallest bathroom ever! It was more like a cheap college studio apartment (complete with rumpled futon as seating). Definitely not on par with the comparables (we've stayed at both the Intercontinental-business & Sofitel-pleasure quite a few times) and far below the "lesser rated" hotels we stayed in- Embassy Suites on Columbus, Hilton Suites on Delaware, Hyatt Regency. Definitely not a 4.5 star. I stay in Chicago 6-8 x a year and lived there most of my life and still work in the vicinity although I live in WI. Hotwire was surprisingly great. I called to let them know our disappointment and they called the front desk and had us upgraded to a junior king suite, iirc. It was a huge improvement but still not a luxury experience. I'm glad we didn't overpay. Location was fabulous! Hope this helps someone else!
  8. The James Hotel Chicago 55 E Ontario Chicago, IL, 60611 Free Internet Smoke Free Fitness Restaurant Business Hi-Speed Internet Blind Accessible Deaf Accessible Travel Accessible Room Accessible Bathroom Accessible Roll-in Shower I was hoping for the Sofitel and thinking perhaps the Intercontinental based on my research here. I may not have researched enough - but I did not see the James as a possibility - but we are ok with it. Hope this helps someone else!
