  1. Started bidding at $50 and went up $5 at a time adding all the free re-bid zones. No counter offer. I was only interested in downtown, so this is a reflection of that 4* zone only. Fron what I read, the Westminster Broom zone is going for much less. BTW, I think it's the Sunday night that's the killer. Would like have been substantially less if I'd bid on only Friday & Saturday night. Also of note, I think that Hotwire has this hotel for these dates for $143 (it may be the other Hyatt too).
  2. ugh. just noticed that they are all "on request" and not available.
  3. thereuare, is this the site that you have referenced looking into before? i'm struggling to find a room for the night of 5/20. did PRICELINE to $220 w/ all the 4* zones but no luck. there are a # of hotels on this site (more than on HOTWIRE). what's the best way to ID them?
  4. yes. thanks. the ameneties were those for the W. thanks for the help with that. frankly, i would have much prefered to just stay at the W for the whole stay but it was $279 per night on HOTWIRE for the whole stay. only $159 when the sunday night was booked independently. crossing my fingers on the hudson stay. looks like a cool little hotel but i hear the rooms are tiny tiny tiny.
  5. here's how it ended up... tried again bidding 4* MTE MTW CPS TS DT/SOHO ESB adding rebids to $200 and then switched my dates to from 10/15-10/19 to 10/15-10/18 b/c i knew i could get the last night cheaper on it's own. went up to $215 and quit. then bid at 3.5* level w/ these zones only: TS CPS DT/SOHO started at $150 with my original dates 10/15-19 and got counter at $180 to raise $25 (to $205). rejected. removed the last night again and rebid 10/15-18 starting again at $150. got counter at $195 to raise $25 ($220). rejected. won bid at $205 for THE HUDSON. then i booked last night on HOTWIRE, for $159 and got the W HOTEL, which is what i expected. together, it averages to $193.50 per night. i'm exhausted ;-)
  6. hmmmm.... thanks. i'm giving some thought to going for it. i like the W. my dates are 10/15 - 10/19. have had a tough time on priceline trying both 4* and 3.5*. my last attempt on 4* took me to a $220 bid with a counteroffer to raise my bid $25. i did nothing but have noticed in the last week that rejecting the counter and upping my bid to the half way point b/w my offer and the counter has not been working. point is, yesterday's attempt to $220 w/ a counter to go up to $245 may be the price i'd have to pay on priceline for a 4* and i may end up in a less desirable area than the W since i was including all zones. so... i'm thinking, this hotel, which appears to be the W is priced on hotwire for $273 for my entire stay 10/15 - 10/19. but it's $265 for 10/15-10/18 and $159 for 10/18-10/19 making it average to $238.50 per night. thougths?
  7. bidding 4* went all the way to $220. got a counter to raise $25. didn't do it. considering the hotwire options, doesn't seem. what appears to be carlton on madison ave is $217 and what looks like millenium hilton $233. do you think that splitting my bid would help? which way would you split?
  8. you're right thereuare. going against what i said i was going to do (bidding at 4* level and capping at $175), i gave it another go at 3.5* and capped it at $150. bid MTE, TS, CPS only. got nowhere.
  9. thanks thereuare. i'd split the bid if i thought it would make a significant difference. from what i've seen though, there isn't one night in particular that is my problem. just read this morning on this forum that someone got the roosevelt, a 3.5* for 10/16 - 10/20, which is just a day off of my stay. perhaps that was the hotel i would have gotten if i'd accepted the counter offer of $175 the other day... MTE was in my bid. i think i'm going to go back to bidding at a 4* and capping it at $175 or so and see how i do. someone on here just got the grand hyatt this morning for later in october for $140, i think i read.
  10. i bid upto $201 with no luck for a 4*. upto $168 with no luck for a 3.5. so far that has been my limit.
  11. if i'm going to go to $175, i'd like to have a good idea of what 3.5 star i'm going to get first. there is a special at the hudson hotel right now and you can have a room for $189. they're small, so if i could get a marriot or hilton or w i would prefer. do you have thoughts?
  12. when i bid $150 i received a counter offer to raise my bid $25 (making it $175). i rebid at $160 and was rejected and then at $168 and was again rejected.
  13. i use this board's link for all my priceline bids. regarding the dates, my plans changed and i will no longer be in nyc 10/7-10/10. the dates above are when i will be travelling.
  14. 3.5* 10/15-10/19 Failed bids to $168 (but got a counter offer) bid mte, ts, cps adding in the following rebids: chelsea, long island, ues started at $120. at $150 got a counter offer to raise the bid $25. i rebid at $160, rejected. $168, rejected.
  15. bid this morning again using the above strategy but going only to $165 based on the poster this morning here who won downtown hilton first week of october for that amount. didn't work. going to keep on trying.
  16. Bid MTE, TS, CPS and added rebids $10 at a time. Got nowhere.
  17. started at $120 and went up to $201 bidding MTE, MTW, CPS, TS, DT/SOHO/FIN and ESB... nada
  18. i'm confused... the priceline hotel list on this site lists many zones not found on the priceline site. i read in a previous post that if your goal is millennium park-loop that your free re-bid zones are: lincoln park mdw airport ohare airport spokie how can i read the hotel list here to verify? i see many more zones than what are listed on priceline and don't see others here, such as lincoln park? help please. thanks!
  19. saw that this was the lowest accepted bid as of late. started bidding at this number and was immediately accepted. perhaps could have gone even lower.
  20. had to split the bid and got lucky to win same hotel. the first 2 nights of the trip were more costly (see seperate thread) and so i paid $96 for 7/15 & 7/16. the following 3 nights 7/17, 7/18, 7/19 were won at $65.
  21. had to split the bid. 3 nights 7/17 - 7/20 were at $65 and went back in and bid for 7/15 - 7/20 and got it at $96.
  22. ok. thanks. i see now that it is listed in "resort" category. next question... do you know which hotel is in the 4*? on the priceline bid page there is a 4* category, but no 4* on the priceline hotel list here (only on the hotwire). thanks!
  23. would prefere 4 star. didn't see any noted though on the hotel list. ask a question re hyatt b/c it is in the list (top) but no star level noted. how many zones are there? the hotel list only showed 1. will spend $200.
