  1. Overall, we had no big problems with this hotel. I think that the $44 we spent per night for this 2.5* was well worth it. I believe it used to be a Radisson but from what I can tell that changed a couple of years ago. I think that Radisson and Park Plaza Hotels are all owed by the same company right? I know that one of the Radissons in Houston (near the Dome) has become a Park Plaza and some say that it's not as good anymore and I supposed that's what happened in Austin, too, since it used to be a 3*. Anyway, this was my experience: We had no problem checking in and called ahead for a crib and 2 beds. (They originally had us with just a king size.) We got there and the crib wasn't in the room but w/in 5-10 minutes of us calling the front desk a porter had brought one up. (Unfortunately, the beds were doubles and not queens.) Balcony overlooked the courtyard near the pool. The room itself was a decent size and it looks like they had tried to spruce it up with newer furniture and bedding but underneath the comforters were blankets with a couple of holes. (The motif was "Texas", of couse.) All of the furniture didn't match and I don't know if that was the look they were going after but I doubt it. Also, it looked like there was a piece of furniture missing from the room - maybe a mirror or something. It just seemed like there was a lot of empty space on one wall. One thing that really bothered us was the carpeting. There were some type of skid marks in several places that really brought the whole room down. Maybe they were put there by furniture dollies. The bathroom was clean but the fabric shower curtain had a few holes in it. Good water pressure from a newer shower head. No fan in the bathroom. The crib was like nothing I've ever seen before. It was made of chrome, of all things. Not the most cozy bed for a little one, but it had to do. No crib sheet but a regular bed sheet that had to be folded and folded to fit. Not safe for babies who may get rolled up inside and suffocate. I think I'll tell them that. There were a couple of conventions going on in the hotel but there wasn't a lot of noise, thank goodness. And, only once or twice did I hear noise from the rooms next to us. The walls seemed thick enough. The lobby was tastefully done and the gift shop was fine but the furniture they had placed on the room floors by the elevators left a lot to be desired. Oh, and the hallways and elevators weren't air conditioned. Speaking of hallways, it looked as if thay had been primed but not painted and you could see where the drywall connected. I don't know how long they've been that way. The pool is outside and a good size. It seems that at one point they may have shared the pool with the hotel next door (Odd, I know.) but that has since closed and it sort of an eyesore. It needed to be vacuumed out but it was windy and is surrounded by trees so unless there was a lifeguard on duty (And there wasn't.) there's no way it would stay clean for very long. When my husband went to the gift shop to get some milk for the baby he was told they didn't have any but to try the dining room. He told whomever helped him that the milk was for our little one and was given the milk at no charge. We thought that was very nice. The next night we went to the dining room for dinner at around 5:30pm and found it completely empty. A short while later some people came to the bar to watch basketball on the TV but the entire time we were there no one else came into eat in the dining room itself. We thought that was a little strange, but there was very little advertising of the restaurant within the hotel and there are a lot of other restaurants in the area. Even in the lobby there's a large book with many, many restaurants listed but there's isn't included. The prices were pretty reasonable and the food good. The same fellow who helped my husband the night before was there again and brought our girls yogurt on the house. We were very appreciative. I don't know what type of clientel they're looking for but there was quite a mix. One of the conventions was a for trading cards with mostly adult men attending, it seemed. Another group was the Baton Rouge Rugby Club. (A fun bunch!) All in all, it was a pleasant experience and we would definitely stay there again, for the same price. But, in order to charge their standard rate they should really work on the overall presentation of the hotel. Their customer service was very good, but other than that it is just OK.
  2. No, the confirmation says that it's 2.5*. I read somewhere else that it had been downgraded when it changed over to the Park Plaza and that it was being renovated. I hope that's the case but will let you know when I return. Thanks, again.
  3. I got it! $44 at the Park Plaza. I bid $30, $35 and $40 just like you said to and then up to $44 and that's when it hit. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! (Oh, and I went through SavingsBarn.com.) :)
  4. This is so great! You guys are MUCH better at explaining P/L than some of those other sites! (And much nice and more helpful, too.) I can't wait to give it a shot!
  5. Thank you SO much! I will let you know what happens. :)
  6. Max bid $50 and, actually, any of those 3 areas would be fine. I don't have a preference. THANKS! :)
  7. I have no idea what I'm doing. I mean, I thought I did and I was trying to get help from another site to make sure I would get the best deal, but one of the mods who was "helping" me acted like I was bothering her so I gave up. I want to bid for a 2.5* hotel in Northwest Austin or Round Rock with North Austin being an alternate. Can anyone help? I'm in kind of a time-crunch here. Thanks in advance!
