  1. Not that this is a huge consolation, but it is Westin, and nicer room-wise than many places on the strip. The neighborhood is perfectly safe, and I would say it is a 5-7 (average speed) walk to Las Vegas Blvd. You can cut across Flamingo though to enter Bally's through the rear entrance (2 minute walk to Bally's) then walk through Bally's to Paris (they connect). Its not ideal, but Bally's rear-entrance is a great shortcut for those at Westin or Tuscany (further away).

They do have a casino, with some decent low-limit blackjack.

Overall though, I do agree, if it isn't on the strip, and doesn't have easy access to the strip, it shouldn't be listed in a strip zone, regardless of what the zone map says. For purposes of comparison, Bally's is actually more than a block away from the strip, they just have some moving sidewalks that make getting inside easier.

  2. Hi all,

Clicked on your link to get to HOTWIRE. I am showing a $9 room in Downtown Las Vegas for the night of August 8, 2011 to August 9, 2011.

It is a 2* showing casino and restaurant, with a 2.5 star rating on tripadvisor.

According to the list, this is either the Golden Gate or the El Cortez, but both of those properties have 3.5 star tripadvisor ratings.

The only hotel downtown on tripadvisor at 2.5 tripadvisor rating is the Plaza, which is currently closed, and is not scheduled to reopen until September.

Any ideas? This is a great deal for $16 with taxes and fees, and no resort fees.

    Thanks

  3. Best Western Roundhouse, back to 2.5*

    Dear David,

We are contacting you about your recent stay at Best Western Roundhouse Suites.

We periodically review our representation of our hotel partners' star rating. After doing so for this hotel, we have decided to adjust the star rating to 2.5 stars. While we are confident in the quality of all our hotel partners, the new rating more accurately reflects the service level, accommodations and facilities of this property.

As such, we would like to offer you $25 HotDollars for each night of your stay. Your HotDollars can be used to book any flight, car rental, hotel reservation or package on the Hotwire Web site. Each one is equivalent to one U.S. dollar in value and is available for one year from the date of issuance. If you have any questions about the HotDollars added to your Hotwire account, please email Hotwire at (name)@hotwire.com or by calling 1-866-HOTWIRE (468-9473). Please do not reply to this email address as your email will not be received.

Just so you all know, I complained and they listened.
