  1. Dear admin,

please close this thread. We have decided to stay with the yotel for a special price rate. If I compare an offer from todays Hot.wire page the difference is about 100$.  Okay, I could have saved this. Maybe next year I will gamble and wait until the last moment. August is anyway not the most visited period for NY.

I would still thank you for your support.

    Best regards

    B.

  2. Dear Thereuare,

yes, the dates for 14-18th August are now confirmed.

I check every day with the bidding helper for a good deal, but could not find one so far that I really liked after identifying the hotel and cross-checking the trip advisor comments. (For example, the New Yorker has 4* but review a rather bad).

Today I found a backup for the moment for the Yotel for 158$ excl. tax. This is cheaper than via Hotwire btw and it was not for a standard cabin.

I could cancel this for free until 13th August.

Thank you for ensuring me it is okay to keep everything in this thread, very kind of you.

I am happy now to observe the situation since I believe prices could still go down. At least the pressure is a bit gone.

My comment about the different star rating refers to your sentence "In fact, using the PRICELINE EXPRESS rates you've quoted above, the HOTWIRE hotels are actually cheaper for your dates"

How would I be able to compare those deals directly or was this done by you knowing which hotels it would be exactly? Like in "the (corresponding ?) HOTWIRE hotels are actually cheaper.."

Nevertheless, we don't have to discuss this (I don't want to waste your time) since this is from the past.

  3. For the moment I am inclined to try it out with PRICELINE, it seems way cheaper as you aid. I have to think about the areas and check a bit what area would be nice. I liked MSG really. I will read about bidding and try to present a strategy.

Am I allowed to continue here, please? I am also more inclined to look now for a room from 14.8-18.8.2014. Sorry, personal circumstances.

How is the following possible, btw? I used the BiddingHelper.com. Dates  14.8-18.8.2014, Priceline.Express Deals.

Madison Square Garden - Convention Area

    Pets Allowed

    Restaurant

    Fitness Center

    Business Center

    $ 177

Madison Square Garden - Convention Area Rated 8.0 out of 10 (or higher)

    Restaurant

    Fitness Center

    Business Center

    $ 180

3.5* are better than 4* in the same area or why is a 4* cheaper than 3.5?

Do you have a guess why a 4* is cheaper? Could the 3* be the Four Points, please?

  4. Dear thereuare,
I have used the betterbidding - tool and I copied the amenities directly from them. I don't know what when wrong. Sorry.

    To answer your question:
Ideally, I would like to have a 3.5-4 star hotel in MSG, Midtown East, Midtown West maybe, TSTD maybe,Empire State Building area maybe.
Ideal price would be around 130$/night because there will be substantial amount of tax & fees added. Do you think this will be possible?

Does unknown property with great user reviews mean there is a larger chance it is a more worse hotel, please? What is your experience with unknown properties so far here on the board?
    No, I don't need a kitchenette.

Do you think priceline would be better?

  5. Dear thereuare,

I apologise. I made a mistake with the dates last time and I was completely wrong with my guesses. I am angry with me I missed out the Omni.

Could you help me again, please?

    Period: 15-19th August, NYC

3.5* with Free Internet, Full Kitchen, Smoke Free Rooms, Air condition

found via better bidding as hot rate condo (?) in the MSG HK area.. Price: 161$.

    I have no clue.

  6. I found for 15.8-18.8 4.5 star for 147USD/night. Amenities:

FULL AMENITIES: Pet friendly, Fitness Center, Restaurant(s), Business Center, Self service laundry, Internet access, Accessible for the deaf, Accessible path of travel, In-room accessibility, Wheelchair accessible, Accessible bathroom

Would you agree this is the Waldorf Astoria? But ok, this is an easy guess.

    Financial District - Wall Street, 139$ /night.

FULL AMENITIES: Fitness Center, Restaurant(s), Business Center, Internet access, Wheelchair accessible

    Doubletree?

    Empire State Building 142$/night, 3star

FULL AMENITIES: Pet friendly, Smoke Free Rooms, Self service laundry, Internet access, Accessible for the blind, Accessible for the deaf, In-room accessibility, Wheelchair accessible, Accessible bathroom, Roll-in shower

    I have no clue.

    Thank you.

  7. Argh, I apologise. I meant August 15 - August 19 2014.

Yesterday I looked up some hotels, I was not able to identify them because of the amenities not being listed in this combination.

Thereuare, to follow you request, I will need to check again and then I will write them down for you. This will take a while and I will come back and report. Thank you.

  8. Hi thereuare.

the amenities were the standard ones betterbidding has already in the list.

    Free Internet

    Accessible path of travel

    Accessible bathroom

    Smoke Free Rooms

    In-room accessibility

    Roll-in shower

    Business Center

    Wheelchair accessible

Location was nice, room was okay (we had to fight to get a room with a view to ESB), staff at the reception was rather unfriendly but there was one exception.

Have a nice day and thank you.

  9. It were the Laundry Facilities and the Kitchenette peaking my interest.

To conclude I "won" the Hilton Garden Inn 35th W street. Nice location, but strange service. ( Too dead too explain since I just returned.)

But wanted to say that booking last minute via Hotels.com on Labour Day to next day is way cheaper than on HOTWIRE :( 99$ for the same room where I paid 129$ + Hotwire fees.

thereuare, if you don't mind I would like to ask some questions about your comments above after a rest.

  10. HI Forum,

could you please tell me why one should close the browser after a reject?

And when thereuare suggests one of his strategy, why can I do with re-bids (okay this is clear) and closing browser so many tries, please?

    Thanks.

    For example this one:

    Select 3.5* MTW...

Bid $120, if rejected close brower and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...

    Select 3.5* CPS...

Bid $120, if rejected close brower and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...

    Select 3.5* TS...

Bid $120, if rejected close brower and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...

    Select 3.5* MSG...

Bid $120, if rejected close brower and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...

    Select 3.5* MTW and CPS...

Bid $125, if rejected close brower and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...

    Select 3.5* TS and MSG...

Bid $125, if rejected close brower and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...

    Select 3.5* MTW and CPS...

Bid $130, if rejected close brower and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...

    Select 3.5* TS and MSG...

Bid $130, if rejected close brower and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...

    Select 3.5* MTW and CPS...

Bid $135, if rejected close brower and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...

    Select 3.5* TS and MSG...

Bid $135, if rejected close brower and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...

Select 3.5* MTW and CPS and TS...

Bid $140, if rejected close brower and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...

Select 3.5* MTW and CPS and MSG...

Bid $140, if rejected close brower and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...

Select 3.5* TS and MSG and MTW...

Bid $145, if rejected close brower and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...

Select 3.5* TS and MSG and CPS...

Bid $145, if rejected close brower and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...

Select 3.5* TS and MSG and MTW and CPS...

    Bid $150

If the above is rejected you can close the browser, use this link to re-access PRICELINE, and repeat but at the 3* level.

  11. HI,

I don't understand what you mean above with "(i don't think it's worth 50% more than the other options but maybe you do)".

I found the following offers currently via hotwire:

    TSTD, 126$, 4*

    Pet friendly

    Suite

    Fitness Center

    Restaurant

    Business Center

    High-Speed

    Internet Access

This is probably Doubletree Guest Suites. What would you say?

Maybe I should not read first the negative views :-)

In general, would you say one could get a better deal via priceline currently?

So far my beds in general were not successful even if I was just 10% below a PRICELINE EXPRESS deal price.

I will do research further, thank you for your suggestions!

EDIT: Do I see it correctly that I get currently 10% off via priceline with this code even with normal booking, please?

Edit2: I am actually now inclined to try to bid. I just found the Doubletree via Priceline for 129$. Do you think by bidding it would be possible to gain something?

  12. Hi Thereuare,

I am doing currently some research via HOTWIRE. I agree with your suggestion that your mentioned period is the cheapest.

I saw some deals for around 125$ on HOTWIRE, but the reviews for example for double tree suites on TS are rather not encouraging.

You asking for plans: Well, we intend to continue our sightseeing tour (walking around NY mainly, visit Empire State Building, MOMA). A connection to a good subway station would be nice.

Since we know how to use the subway (*g*), a hotel without bugs (mostly clean!!!) and a good bed are our main concern. The Staybridge was last time very good, but I don't see how I can get this again. Maybe we would like to exclude both sites of the central park and maybe not too much north of Times Square. In general, pretty flexible.

I will go hunting again for the moment and see what I can find :-)

I am looking forward to your suggestions.

    Best

    BB

  13. HI

I am looking for a room in NYC for 2 nights in the period of 31/8-9/3, depending on the price maybe 3.

I am not sure which of those days would be the most expensive ones.

    In terms of priceline zones

10,6, 11, 12, 3 and 15, 9 would be okay, although 10 turned out to be very nice last time.

In terms of names those are:

MSG, ESBA, ME, MW, SoHo, and LES. TSTD would work maybe as well, but I am afraid it could be very nice.

Our max limit would be 180-200$ and minimum should be 3*.

Am I allowed to post here as well possible hotels from hotwire to identify or should I open another thread in the hotwire-NY subforum, please?

    Thank you.

    BB

  14. Dear Thereuare,

    thank you for your answer.

But allow me a question please. Sometimes I am not allowed to write in other posts, when I open another one (clearly this one was a food question not a hotel one, I am back in my old post. Nobody else will read this here. My question was a general NY food question. Please bring me back.

Sorry, but I don't get it.

  15. Dear thereuare, I used the HOTWIRE link.

Anyway, I was successful! Today I saw on HOTWIRE a suspicious offer for 3* and 170$.

    Amenities

    Free Breakfast

    Free Internet

    Pet friendly

    Fitness Center

    Business Center

    Laundry Facilities (self-service)

    High-Speed Internet Access

    Accessible for the blind

    Accessible for the deaf

Accessible path of travel In-room accessibility

    Accessible bathroom

    Handicapped parking Roll-in shower

We decided to book it and we got the Staybridge Suites - Times Square Manhattan for 170$. It is only 49$ cheaper than on conventional sites, but since this one hotel I wanted to try out I feel good. It is only slightly higher than a hotel we would have had as backup in the Downtown area. But note, the price on hotwire went up by 20$.

So, I say thank you for your patience with me and the introduction to HOTWIRE and PRICELINE.

But I will be back *g* with a hotel search for the Adirondacks.

    A happy BB says thanks.

    BB

PS: Yes, I booked the hotel via your HOTWIRE link.

PS2: Any recommendations for a hotel in the Adirondacks, please?
