Bid $56 for 3* in Rockford zone, then added Loves Park zone at same price. Opened a new window and bid $56 for 2.5* in Rockford zone, then added Loves Park zone at same price. Opened a new window and bid $48 for 2* in Rockford zone and that's what I ended up with.

Bid $51 and received a counter offer of $59. Knowing I could likely get it for something in between, I opened a new window, added the Greenbay East - Bellevue zone and bid $55. I opened the new window just in case I didn't get it at $55 that I could still use the counter offer option. And, as always, I used the PRICELINE link.

After not hitting in several attempts at Dayton in a similar price range, I decided to try Springfield since it is about the same distance from my final destination.

Tried 3* at $37, then added 2.5* at $36, then 2* at $30 for the winner.

For my second night, I tried to add on a night to my first priceline win and that was rejected. Clicked on "see other rates for this hotel" and it showed $75, so I thought I could win for no more than that amount. Got it for lower, but from a different hotel.

Placed a bunch of bids and rebids (not in the most efficient fashion) for a two night stay. Decided to break it up into one night stays and my first bid $53 gave me the "we can't accept your bid price, but if you raise it to $68 right now, you'll win" message. I declined and worked my way up to this win.

Yes, our stay is for three nights, Aug. 24,25,26. Sorry for the confusion. In various research, it seems that sometimes listing the check-out day results in a fourth night being included (such as on your calander of wins). Anyway, at this point, splitting isn't an option due to our itinerary. We saw some nice wins for the 24th and discussed it, but don't think it will be worth the hassle. Will try again in a few hours when the 24 hour period is up and report back here.

Thanks, Aaron. I had checked HOTWIRE before bidding on PL, and didn't see anything that low. I just checked it again, and the lowest I'm seeing are a 3.5* in Midtown East and a 3* in Times Square for $256/$255. I don't understand HOTWIRE as well as PRICELINE, but it is another option to keep open. I am also pursuing timeshare rentals at The Mahattan Club......

Just an FYI for those that are looking, I spent almost an hour this afternoon trying 28 different 3* combinations/re-bids in Manhattan for 3 nights Aug. 24-26 between $180 and $231 with no wins. I don't think I got every possible combo, but I was butting up against my monetary limit and decided to wait and try again tomorrow. I haven't tried So-Ho/Financial because it was a little further away than I was hoping for, but I see that al pacino got that area for $180 later in the week, so I may re-think that. I know that the US Open is in town from the 25th through the 7th, and heard that it brings 50,000 people to town.
