Normally, I'd say no problem with splitting my bid (and have done so before) but this time around I'm going to be much too crazed to check-in-and-out--silly as that seems.
No dice; I followed your bidding suggestions but was unsuccessful. Thanks again for your help. I used Betterbidding's link to PRICELINE.
I need to be in Pittsburgh that weekend (May 1 - 3), so I'm willing to go 3 or 3.5 stars. Downtown, University, or Southside are all acceptable. I'd welcome a bidding strategy. Again, I'm willing to go up to $150--which feel excessive, but I know it's an especially busy weekend in Pittsburgh.
Or...
On Hotwire, I see a three-star that's available in Oakland (part of University) for $107. It shows that its amenities include a restaurant, a fitness center, hi speed internet, and laundry facilities. I'm not sure, but I *think* this is the Wyndham which would be nice. (A trip to the Carnegie is in the cards for that weekend.) Betterbidding includes a business center for this hotel, the Wyndham's website says they've got a business center, However hotwire doesn't include that icon.
Any sense?
Please feel free to punt this over to the other board.
Thanks again for your help!
Please clarify...Did you want to bid up to $150 for a 4* hotel before lowering your star rating to a 3* property (or a 3.5* property and then a 3*)
Yes--thanks!
I must be in Pittsburgh those two evenings, May 1 - 3. I'm willing to bid up to $150 for a four-star or a three-star.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Yes, of course. Thanks for the reminder. Priceline now also splits downtown up a bit, adding Southside. I believe there's a Holiday Inn over there and a very large Sheraton.
Four star: I began at $75 and using my rebid zones topped-out at $120. The Pirates are in town that weekend, there's a very large dance fest, and the marathon's that weekend, too.
Three star: I began at $75 and bid up to $85.
I'd welcome any suggestions/help. I'm willing to bid up to $150. I'm willing to stay Downtown, Southside, or around the university.
I used Betterbidding's PRICELINE link.
On HOTWIRE I see a downtown three-starred property at $149. I also see a three-starred property in Oakland at $102; I think this is the Holiday Inn.
I'm preparing to bid on a four-star Pittsburgh downtown hotel. I note that Priceline's Pittsburgh listings include Pittsburgh North - Allegheny Valley. This zone is not included in BetterBidding's list of PA zones.
I decided to grab the Brown Palace; looking forward to my stay. I entered HOTWIRE using the link from BetterBidding.

Many thanks to the board!
Hotwire's price on what I believe to be the Brown Palace is now $109. Four-star, Greater Downtown Denver. Trip Advisor customer's rating is 4.5/5 The amenities listed are:
Smoke Free Rooms
Fitness Center
Restaurant(s)
Business Center
High-speed Internet Access
My flight arrives early afternoon; I'll have the remainder of the day/evening free which makes this hotel quite tempting. The following day/evening are booked solid, alas.
Got a Priceline strategy?
I'll be in Denver 7/30 - 8/4. I've already split my stay and successfully bid on the last three nights of my stay (8/1 - 8/4). That thread is here: Denver Downtown Westin Tabor Center.
I'm now looking for help with the first part of my stay, 7/30 - 8/1. I'd prefer to not split my bid. To date I've unsuccessfully bid up to $95 for the remaining two nights. Should I wait a while? Ideally, I'd like to stay under $95.
HOTWIRE has a few tempting hotels, including what looks like the Brown Palace at $112/night (tempting?), the Adams Mark at $75, and the Red Lion at $53 (less tempting?).
Thanks in advance for your help!
Ok, I bid 8/1/08 - 8/4/08. Using my rebid zones, I finally hit on my last bid of $95.
Westin Hotel Tabor Center, Denver.
Your Offer Price: $95.00

Number of Nights: 3

After hitting my bid, I was offered the chance to extend my stay. I attempted to extend for my nights of 7/30 and 7/31, but was unsuccessful.
Any suggestions for the evenings of 7/30 and 7/31? I need to be downtown, ideally in a four-star but I'm willing to go down to three. I think my max remains $95.
Thank you for all of your help!
And again, I used Betterbidding's PRICELINE link.
I bid 7/31 - 8/4, using my nine rebid zones. No dice. I topped out at $95.
I used Betterbidding's PRICELINE link.
Many thanks! I understand the strategy of grouping nights. And of course, I should have looked at Priceline's star levels/maps.
I've just re-run my initial dates through Priceline , 7/30 - 8/4, using nine rebid zones. Each bid was denied.
I used the PRICELINE link on Betterbidding.
Hi again,
In addition to my question above regarding dates....
I'm not sure I'm seeing nine rebid zones. Betterbidding's Priceline Hotel List has no information on Northeast Denver and Littleton; both are included in Priceline's Denver map.
Otherwise, I see just seven potential rebid zones:
Aurora
Airport
Denver Southwest/Lakewood
Denver West
Northglenn/Thornton
Stapleton
Tech Center - North
The following are NOT rebid zones for me:
Cherry Creek
Tech Center - South
Westminster
Thank you again for all of your help!
Bid the above in the following date order:7/30-8/4 (if you'd like to try again and it's been 24 hours since your previous rejected bid)
7/31-8/4
8/1-8/4
Any questions feel free to ask.
Oops, quick question: Did you mean bid 7/30 - 8/4 first--my complete stay.
Then, 7/30-8/1--the first part of my stay? If that's successful....
Then 8/1-8/4--the second part of my stay?
Many thanks! I'll post my results once I get a chance to run my bids.
Well, of course I'd very much prefer to not change at all. However, I'm willing to change once.
Twice might start to feel excessive, particularly since my days/evenings are going to be particularly full.
Yes, I'm willing to split my bid. I think I understand the strategy, but what would you suggest as a starting bid for each night/group of nights?
Should I bid Wednesday - Friday evenings on the high-side, then Saturday and Sunday evenings a bit lower? Or is Friday considered a weekend evening?
I was hoping to win a four-star in downtown Denver--no luck. I began my bidding at $75. Using rebid zones, I reached my max at $95. Is my price too low?
I jumped over to HOTWIRE, which doesn't show much of anything for those days, other than a 3.5* at $72. Should I wait?
I entered PRICELINE using BetterBidding's link.
I used Betterbidding's link to PRICELINE.
Initially, I tried for a 4-star, beginning at $70 and with rebid zones continued up to $95.
Then I closed my browser and opted for a 3-star. $65, my first bid, was immediately accepted. I probably should have started a bit lower? I'm happy, none the less.
Doubletree Hotel Pittsburgh 3-star
Tax and fees brought my $65 bid up to $81.84.
First bid; I thought I low-balled it. Oh well. I entered Priceline using the link from Savingsbarn.com
Hilton New Orleans Riverside

Many thanks to the board!
I saw that Hotwire had a 3.5* for the night of April 14. They also listed a 4* for $165. Using the link at Savings Barn, I went to Priceline and bid $75 for a 4*--that was rejected. I then bid $65 for a 3*--this was successful.
Hilton Pittsburgh and Towers, 600 Commonwealth Place.
With tax and service fee, $81.88.
Thanks to the board!
Just bid $75 for a 4-star downtown--rejected.
I'm using the link through Savings Barn.
I bid $70 on a four-star hotel for the night of April 14; that was rejected. I added a rebid zone and upped to $80--that was rejected too. I downgraded to a 3* and bid $70--that was rejected.
Must be a busy night in downtown! Pittsburgh has loads of rebid potential, so I'll probably let a week or so go by and try again.

To lock in something, I made a refundable reservation at the Doubletree in downtown--$135/night. I stayed here a few years ago--nice workout room and pool.
