  1. I still haven't been successful. I made all bids using the board's PRICELINE link. 5* - $125 Close Browser 4* - BH/WH - $110 add Culver City - $115 add Lawndale - $120 add Redondo - $125
  2. Thanks for your help! VB23: I don't need parking; wifi would be nice, but isn't essential. Colfax: I usually LIKE staying outside of a conference hotel and interacting with the city, but as you indicate Century City doesn't sound too inviting. I have an afternoon or two to myself and have come to like the idea of a pool. Hence, a four-star sounds inviting. However, for $149 vs. $189 I don't think the difference is really worth it. I think I'm going to continue to try to low-ball a four-star bid in Century City--using the Board's PRICELINE link, topping at $125 or so. If it hits, great. Otherwise, I'll very contentedly tuck-into the Hyatt Regency for $189. Tell me: Should I continue to post my weekly or so Priceline activity to the board? My denials above look pretty exemplary.
  3. Today's bids on a five-star and four-star hotel were denied. I made all bids using the board's PRICELINE link. Five-Star, BH/WH - $125 Four-Star, BH/WH - $110 add Culver - $115 add Lawndale - $120 add Redondo - $125 I still see that four-star property on Hotwire for $149, probably the Intercontinental. I can't decide if the hotel's a significantly nicer one than the Hyatt Regency and worth dealing with the schlepping back-and-forth, albeit a short walk, for $40 or so cheaper. Anyone have a strong opinion, Intercontinental vs. Hyatt Regency? Many thanks!
  4. Thanks for your help! For $149 on Hotwire I see a four-star in Century/Westwood , with just four icons: fitness, swim, restaurant and high-speed. 90% customer rating. I don't see this one listed in BetterBidding's Hotwire list. I entered Hotwire using the Board's link. If this was the Intercontinental--just a half-mile from the conference hotel--I'll grab it. I can back-out of my reservation up to three days in advance. Today I bid on a four-star using the Board's PRICELINE link. All bids were denied. Beverly Hills: $110 add Culver City: $115 add Lawndale: $120 add Redondo: $125. Many thanks!
  5. Yes, I saw that--and what I believe is the Hollywood W for $149. Mighty tempting! With cabs back-and-forth (c. $25 each way) to the conference hotel I'm not sure it's worth it.
  6. This week's denial.... I made all bids using the board's PRICELINE link. Five Star $130 - BH/WH Closed Browser Four Star $105 - BH/WH $110 - Culver City $115 - Lawndale $120 - Redondo
  7. DENIED! I made all bids using the board's PRICELINE link. Five Star (Thanks Colfax!) $125 - BH/WH Three Star $70 - BH/WH $75 - add Lawndale 3.5 Star $85 - BH/WH $90 - add Lawndale 4 Star $100 - BH/WH $105 - add Culver City $110 - add Lawndale $120 - add Redondo
  8. Three-Star--$100 Four-Star--$125 If I get much higher, with taxis back-and-forth, I might as well stay at the conference hotel. I've bid about 2-3 times/week, using the board's PRICELINE link. Colfax--As it turns out, I can wait this out for a few more weeks. I can get $189/night at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza through July 9. As always, many thanks to the board for your help!
  9. I'm driving through to NYC.... Needed a stop within striking distance. Pocono Inne Town - $76; taxes, etc. brought that up to $87.91. 2.5 stars Free Breakfast Pool Restaurant High-Speed Internet I used the board's HOTWIRE link. Just had a glance at another site's reviews of this property. I'll probably be bringing some cleaning supplies!
  10. I'm continuing to bid using the board's PRICELINE link. Still no dice. I bid on a four-star today: $90 BH/WH $95 add Culver City $100 add Redondo $105 add Culver City And a 3.5-star: $85 BH/WH $90 add Culver City $95 add Lawndale And a 3-star: $70 BH/WH $75 add Lawndale I made all bids using the board's PRICELINE link.
  11. For kicks, I tossed-out a few more four-star bids, using the board's PRICELINE link. I wasn't successful. BH/WH - $80 Added Lawndale - $85 Added Redondo - $90 Added Culver City - $95 I'll try again early next week. Thanks to the board!
  12. Thanks for your help! I've got a fiscal year coming to a conclusion at the end of June and am eager to spend-down what little money I have left. For kicks, I bid on a four-star hotel earlier today using the board's PRICELINE link. I wasn't successful. I began at $75 for BH/WH.... $80 added Lawndale $85 added Redondo $90 added Culver City Does this sound like a viable strategy for a four-star? I'll continue doing the three-star strategy you recommended below. Many thanks!
  13. No dice. I raised my bid to $60 and was rejected. I added a rebid zone (Lawndale) and raised my bid to $65 and was rejected again. I used BetterBidding's link to PRICELINE. Any advice?
  14. Thanks for your help! I bid $50 and was rejected, upped to $55 and added a rebid zone, and was rejected again. I used BetterBidding's PRICELINE link. I'll try again tomorrow at the levels you suggested and report back. Thanks again!
  15. Thank you for your reply. I'd like to use PRICELINE, least expensive 3* or better. Sorry again if I'm in the wrong forum--please move if necessary.
  16. Sorry! I inadvertently posted this in the wrong forum. When a moderator has a moment, would you please move it. Sorry for the trouble!
  17. May I have some bidding strategy for Los Angeles? I have an event at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel August 1 - 6. I'm looking for a 3- or 4-star hotel. I don't know this part of LA at all, but am guessing it's unwalkable. Still, I'd like to be in the hotel or in the immediate area. The conference rate is $189/night + taxes so I'm looking to get under that. I'm guessing my starting bid is $100 or so. Is this even remotely reasonable? Many thanks!
  18. Sorry! Yes, thru priceline and I used the board's PRICELINE link.
  19. I waited for a few others to firm-up plans and by the time we were all on board the Hilton was full too. We ended up staying at the Four Points Sheraton out by the airport--$40/night. Significantly less than we'd intended to spend, but certainly not the most interesting of locations.l It's about a 25 minute ride into the city; 55 minutes in rush hour on a Friday. Thanks to the board!
  20. Thank you for your help! I bid $45 and was rejected, but was asked to raise my bid by $13. Rather than messing around, I upped to $58 as directed and got the Marriott Downtown at Key Center. It's a 3.5* property and especially well-reviewed, so I'm happy. Three nights, 4 - 7 March, with taxes and fees that's $210.15. I used the board's PRICELINE link.
  21. Least expensive 3* or better. Many thanks for your help!
  22. I'm running in the Pittsburgh Marathon on 2 May. My past experience has been that's an especially full weekend in Pittsburgh. Am I too early to get bidding? I'd like to stay downtown, 3-4 stars, no higher than $125/night. Any help would be appreciated. I've not made any bids yet. Thanks for your help!
  23. May I have a bit of help with a bidding strategy for downtown Cleveland, 4 - 7 March 2010. I'm looking for a 3.5 - 4 star property--cheap as possible. Judging from recent wins, I'm willing to bid up to $75 or so. For kicks I just low-balled a $40 bid on a 3.5 star property--that was denied. I used Better Bidding's PRICELINE link. Many thanks!
  24. Thanks; I used the site's Expedia link. I'm not in love with the price but having stayed there before, my wife likes the Doubletree this time around. Thanks again for your help.
