I rented a bigger car for the same price in 2006 and the taxes and fees were only $7. Does anyone know why the taxes and fees have gone up 500% in the last year?

Tried up to $100 for a 4*. Then tried for a 3* starting at $70. Hit at $80. Total including taxes and fees was $102. The guest room account accessed through the hotel TV indicated a total charge of $92. I really wanted a 4* for the night, but many were booked due to the Texas A&M v. Army game and the Jazz Festival.
