    Number of Nights: 1

    Subtotal: $37.00

Bid $35 for 2* Piqua zone, received counteroffer of $44, declined and added 2* Sidney, upped to $37 and won. Total surprise, was expecting the mediocre Days Inn next door that I had previously won in June. Lowest hotel website rate is $79.

    Went through the Savingsbarn link.

  2. This was for my parents, and they said this ex-Ramada needs a major overhaul. The only attraction for this property is the large pool/gaming area, and they confirmed the place was mostly families with children. My parents were given a smoking King room (prefer non-smoking) and the front-desk said "you're a Priceline customer and didn't request non-smoking, and we're full." My parents tell me the parking lot was very empty, and I know there was availability for a variety of room types on the hotel's website.

I'm confused as to why hotels participate in the Priceline program and then treat guests poorly because of it. I know room type is not guaranteed when using PL, but shouldn't requests be accomodated if the availability is there?

  3. Had bid $40 and $45 last night for 2* in LaPorte, Indiana and denied. Started at $48 tonight and won on first try, probably would have hit lower. Lowest website rate is $55 for no guaranteed room type and no included breakfast, so not much of a savings here.

    Best Value Inn La Porte

    Your Offer Price: $48.00

    Number of Rooms: 1

    Subtotal: $48.00

    Taxes & Service Fees: $13.00

    Total Charges*: $61.00

  4. Thanks for the help as always. Looks like I'll have to pass on the 3* if it could be the Radisson or Ramada. Fortunately, someone on TripAdvisor said the Ramada will close in October, to be remodeled into a Wyndham.

It's a shame, no one should have to do detective work to find clean accomodations, especially at a place that is supposedly three stars. Quality issues like this have got to be turning people away from using opaque sites.

I was also looking at bidding the 2* Racine zone on Priceline (visiting South Milwaukee), where the Marriott (previously 3*) has been the only hotel reported. But alas, there is a very poor Days Inn in the area which comes up as a 2* in PL's conventional booking section, so I'm not sure if I want to risk getting that property if it's also a 2* in the NYOP.

  5. Staying 9/2 - 9/3. 3* is $60 with the following amenities:

    Airport Shuttle

    Pool

    Laundry

    Fitness Center

    Restaurant

Amenities match the Holiday Inn, Ramada (total dive), Clarion and Best Western. I'm thinking it's the Ramada based on the price, any opinions?

Also available: 2* for $52 with Pool, Restaurant, Airport Shuttle.... Hojo on Layton? (has a fitness center, but it's new, so maybe hotwire hasn't updated to reflect this?)

Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

  6. This is the Holiday Inn on 1000 Sully Road on the northeast side of IAD. Stayed here 8/18 - 8/20 2006, Pricelined for $40 per night. I was a little apprehensive based on reviews I had read. A friend of mine had stayed here for several weeks for airline training, and had told me to request a room in the 'new wing.'

My mother and I arrived here at 4pm on Friday, and the parking lot was fairly empty. No line at all for check-in, and we made a request for a two double-bed room in the new wing. The hotel rooms are laid out in a rectangle shape, with an outside courtyard in the middle, and I'm unsure which part(s) is the new one. The entire hotel looked very nice, the lobby area spotless. There is free ice water and cups in a dispenser next to the check-in counter. A nice lounging area is nearby with a lot of chairs and I believe a TV. Also, a gift shop/convenience store, an Irish pub and another room for the breakfast buffet, and of course the Holidome with a large pool, video games, hot tub and sauna.

At any rate, we got to the room to find a very nice, clean room with our requested bed choice. There is a good sized TV (25" maybe), desk, chair, and large sitting chair. Bathroom was very spacious and clean, however the tub drained very poorly. We noted this on a maintanence card the first day, but it was not fixed. A/C unit was loud and did a mediocre job of cooling, but that's ok. There is free wireless internet throughout the hotel/rooms, and wired internet also available in the rooms.

Aside from the plumbling, this hotel was very nicely done. For $40 this is a great value, although judging by the review, other hotels in this zone are a bit better and more consistent.

To follow up: my friend tells me the rectanglular portion furthest from the Holidome is the new wing of the hotel. So upon check-in, ask for the new wing.

  7. At check-in (huge line--waited about a half hour) was told by a staff member that there were no non-smoking rooms available and that they cleaned their rooms very well so they didn't smell like smoke. I told her in the nicest possible way that this was unacceptable and was a medical issue for us

Why is that unacceptable? You are not entitled to a non-smoking room. If you absolutely have to have a certain room type, maybe you should seek other means of reservation.

  8. I booked this hotel for my parents and am writing what they thought of the hotel. Stayed here 7/29 - 7/31, 2006 for $38/night. No mention of Priceline upon check-in. The hotel is only 4-5 years old, and in great shape.

They were given a very large handicapped-accessible room with a king bed and gigantic bathroom. Room had a fridge and a microwave, along with free high speed internet. Room was very clean, but the coffee-maker leaked water. No complaints other than that, and coffee was available at breakfast anyway. They said the setup for the continental breakfast was very nicely done.

My parents thoroughly enjoyed their stay here, and I hope this hotel becomes a regular in this zone. No one had posted a win for this property on here or TOBB prior.
