  1. Consistent with other results during the low season/dates. Hope for a preferred room for SPG gold. Started bidding at $40 and went up.
  2. Got this on the first try. The lowest hotel rate was $55 - now I think i would have started with $25 but rebid zones in Gallup.
  3. This was one of the most nerve wrecking bids I made on priceline. Here is the reason - of course I was hoping for Omni (lowest for that weekend $259) or Marriott Gaslamp ($249). The problem was that the Sheraton Marina was going for $109 on their wen page. My greatest fear was that I would get the Sheraton for $90 + $18 when it retails for the same with tax. I was really relieved to get Omni for $90. I actually made two separate bids, for two consecutive nights to get two separate stays for their Gold Level program. This is the lowest I have seen for Omni in SAN for a few years now.
  4. I think $90 for a 4* SAN Downtown is the lowest we have seen in the past year. I've gotten Omni for $91 in 2005, and $94 in 2006. With some exception (very dead weekends) you are looking at $95 minimum for 4* San Diego Downtown. If you do not mind driving from Del Mar, you could try 3* Del Mar hoping for Double Tree. $55 has been their lowest price in PL in 2006 - as far as I know. Great place - you will not be disappointed with quality. It's a bit of a drive to downtown but not more than 20 min without traffic. Please keep in mind that when bidding on a 4* downtown you could get Sheraton Marina Hotel - right across the street from the airport - not very downtown when you ask me. Coastal could get great with a Hyatt at $65-$75 rage - or a disappointment with Hilton San Diego Resort. But if you are lucky you cold snatch the Marriott on the 6th st (next to Omni) for $95-$105 One of the reasons you might not be getting anything is the duration of your stay. You could try bidding 2 days at a time, 3 days at a time and then improvise - of course if that type of set up is acceptable to you. I think it's hard to secure a 5 day block on a weekday - plus weekdays maybe more expensive. Bidding on a one night stay and then extending your stay at the sma price in the same property if they have availability is another strategy. If you need more ideas let me know.
  5. This place is consistently $35 on PL. With taxes and fees = 11.44 == $46.44 Here is the trick - the hotel web page price is just a bit higher, but they only charge tax. So you will pay $49-50 if you book directly with BW. so it might be only $4 cheaper to get this on PL This is just a motel, but feels like a bit nicer motel, not by much though.
  6. Was hoping for a different place. This is just a motel. Convenient to the park - but that's about it.
  7. Could not get this cheaper even though I tried many times. not the best PL price for this hotel. Recognized SPG Gold and the staff was pretty nice. Decent 3* hotel.
  8. Consistent with other posters NOT TO BE CONFUSED with Holiday Inn EXPRESS two buildings down the road
  9. Decent 3* - a bit dated Nothing to do around the hotel, you just stay there and drive around. Monterey seems to be a pretty expensive PL area to stay in.
  10. Consistent with other posters. Recognized my SPG Gold and extended a better room - view of the strip and Paris. Enjoyed my stay here - good value
  11. I was actually hoping for Westin or Sheraton due to SPG Gold membership. Hyatt does not give any perks to their Platinum members - even if you book a full price room. This place felt like a solid 3* - rooms pretty small.
  12. First bid. Was hoping for Omni, or Westin (but I also heard some bad things about that Westin). It's an OLD hotel. Every room is different. I am sure they decide which room to give u based on how much you paid. The fist room I had a prison cell. I think in the old days that's where the servants stayed when traveling with their masters. You cannot argue with the $65 for a downtown LAX, but this is a very inconsistent hotel. I was in the club room on the top floor, and it was not worth $300 they paid for it. All the bathrooms I saw were very small.
  13. Feels very dated. The staff would not want to recognize my SPG Gold, finally after a few attempts ended up with a club room - FREE WATER. Not a very nice place. Expensive parking.
  14. Great price on the Omni. Sign up for their program and you get the internet for free plus free juice int he morning. I paid that much for the airport Westin, and it was not anything to write home about.
  15. I would say that this is the hidden gem of San Diego hotels. The place is very nice and clean. they have a happy hour between 5 and 7 when all the drinks (wine and beer) as well as all food is $2. If you have a car, and need a cheap nice place in SAN with this perfect. Very close to great beaches - 2 miles. It took me 15 min driving (after the morning rush hour) to get to downtown. I was able to get it on multiple dates in November and December, as well as extend my stay there. I would recommend this place to anyone.
  16. Extended Stay America. Actually could have gotten it for $45 - messed up bidding. They charge and extra $10 for two beds. If you have a car, and do not mind driving a few extra miles DEFINITELY go to Rio Mar - Double tree - same price A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE
  17. First bid, a bit disappointed and surprised. First of all - NOT DOWNTOWN. This should be classified as an airport hotel - it's directly across the street from SAN. If you are sating in real downtown and have business there, you do not need a car. With this place you DO. I am an SPG Gold. I was given a junior suite with a murphy bed - it was alright. the other rooms in that old tower (I think east) are supposedly quite small and dated. I had two more rooms booked on PL as well for the same price same dates, and I got those in the western tower - facing the ocean. Those rooms are quite nice and large, feel just a bit dated but nice. I would rate this place a solid 3*, 4** is a bit of a stretch - considering the fact that you could get the Marriott downtown for the same price in the same zone.
  18. First try. Definitely a confounding variable in San Diego bidding. Feels like a 3*
  19. I know this is old, but I just got around to post it. I spent a month in CA doing a priceline hotel every day. Quite a bit of experience. If anyone wants more in depth info email me. Out of the downtown hotels I got: Marriott (6th st - right next to Omni) - rate #1 (very classy, new, and stylish) Omni - #2 (I stayed here many times before, decent 4*, but a bit dated, reminds me of some Westins) Sheraton Marina - #3 (I am an SPG Gold so I got an oceanfront room in the better tower) I got Hilton San Diego Resort in the coastal area - quite disappointing for a 4*. Expensive parking. Definitely feels like a 3*
  20. Seems to be the lowest price for this place. Got it on the first try after trying North 3*
  21. The regular rate on the web site was $89. Priceline warned me that my bid was too low - accepted on the first try though. I think with all the possible free rebid zones in Denver 4* one could start with $40 and move a dollart up at at time from there.
  22. Started by bidding $50, got a counteroffer of $64 INSTED added another zone and bid $55 - SUCCESS I hope this place is as nice as it looks ont he web page
  23. I tried $10 for a compact in MCO weekly rental 8/9 - 8/16. Here is the kicker, it came back as said that it will comfirm this IF I am willing to increase TO $11. So I agreed and got an $11 daily rate plus $43 and taxes. On Alamo's webpage the exact same rental would have been $283 with tax
  24. Got this on the first try based on other experiences. here is the fun part. When I go to the hotel's web page it shows me how much priceline paid for this stay: Amount: $54 Tax: $7.02 I paid $55 for the room, and $14.87 in taxes and fees, that means that priceline made $8.85 Just an interesting fact
