  1. Was hoping to win the Marriott, like everyone else, but noooooooo, I got the Hyatt. The problem is that I have to pay for parking at the Hyatt, but the Marriott lets ALL their guests park free of charge for the duration of their trip. It looks like the airport offers extended (not long-term) parking for $8/day. The good news is that the Hyatt appears to be attached to the airport via a skyway, so shuttle service isn't needed. Winning bid was $46, with a whopping $13.94 in taxes in fees, bringing the total to $59.94. AAA rates for that night were $215.

  2. Good deals there! As long as we're bragging, here's our family's Easter break savings:

    (1) night at the DTW Hampton Inn $129 which includes 7 nights parking at airport

    (3) roundtrip tickets DTW to SJU $615 total with tax and luggage on Spirit

    (1) roundtrip ticket PIT to SJU on American ?? Don't remember

    (2) nights at LaConcha, booked 6 months ago, $237/night (new tower with 2 Q, 1 sleep-sofa in living room)

    (4) days rental car $30/day on full size vehicle with Costco discount

    (1) night at Wyndham Rio Mar $97 X 2 rooms on Hotwire

    (2) nights on Vieques, with airfare from Cieba, rack rate at hotel, Biobay tours, $100+/day car rental (No Deals here)

    (1) night at El Convento in Old San Juan $185 x 2 rooms website mid-week special

Overall, Puerto Rico is a very reasonable travel destination.

  3. Began bidding at $50 for both Missoula and Missoula North. Was kind of hoping for the Doubletree because of proximity to University of Montana. Got a couteroffer of $59, but saw a Doubletree review on tripadvisor mentioning a winning bid of $53. Bid $53, adding Lolo (no 3* properties) and got the Marriott Courtyard. Taxes and fees brought it to $65.53. If I booked directly, with my AAA disount, it would have been $103.55. And yes, I used your PRICELINE link.

  4. Background: I've been watching this area for a couple of months. I usually bid on Priceline, as it's usually cheaper and the properties are usually very nice. Unfortunately, Pricline seems to be giving out the Gran Melia at winning bids of around $120 per night. I bid up to $90/night/room and was rejected. I was really hoping for El Conquistador, but it hasn't appeared much on either site (I even added children to my request, which some have reported will increase your chances of getting the El Con). According to your site, it looked like the following list of amenities is the Rio Mar and I'm happy to report that it was, as recent hotel reviews have been better for Rio Mar than Gran Melia.

    4* 90% approval rating

$97 per room for 2 rooms on 4/6 for one night (Hotel web site was $200-220/room)

$57.96 in taxes and fees were added, bringing the total to $251.96 (I hope they don't slap on a resort fee when I get there)

  5. Unfortunately, it's not that simple. If you bid 4*, Priceline can "upgrade" you to resort. This just happened recently. Someone reported getting the Conrad. You need to be prepared to get La Concha or any of the resorts in the San Juan area. There are at least 4, but most of the wins lately have been the Conrad. If your budget is $150, I wouldn't bid over $110, as they add a resort fee, a priceline fee, and parking fees. The good news is that I believe most of the winning La Concha bids have been around $90.

  6. Just curious, were you bidding 4*? There's a 4* I really want (La Concha). Priceline has the Conrad ranked as a resort, and I know they can technically "upgrade" a 4* bid to a "resort", but I hadn't seen them do this in San Juan. It looks like $156 is their web site rate. Keep in mind that both rates will require a resort fee at check-out. You can find lots of reviews on this hotel at www.tripadvisor.com.

  7. I started bidding for two rooms, two nights, 8/4 and 8/5, but got rejected all the way up to $140. Then I noticed that Priceline had many hotels listed as available for 8/4, but only a handful for 8/5 on their regular listing. When I bid on 8/4 only, I won on my first bid, which was $110/night/room. I got REALLY EXCITED when Priceline asked me if I wanted to add another night to my reservation. I added my 8/5 date, only to be told it wasn't available. I began bidding in the Millenium Park zone for 8/5, but quit when nothing came up for $140. Things are not looking real good right now, but my hunt continues. Let's keep each other posted, as I know several of us are trying to find rooms on 8/5.
