  1. Wanted to book a room for 3 adults in the NW SA - Medical Center area.

Used the HOTWIRE links from this site and saw a 2* hotel with the following amenities:

    Complimentary Breakfast, Pool, Internet.

I thought this would either be the Comfort Inn or La Quinta. I booked it and found that it indeed was La Quinta.

La Quinta Inn San Antonio Vance Jackson

    Economy See ratings guide

    HotelAddress:5922 Northwest Expressway (I-10),

    HotelCityStateZip:San Antonio, TX, 78201

    HotelPhone:(210) 734-7931

The rack rate at Laquinta.com for this stay is $304 + taxes. I paid $234 + taxes ($280). Not a big savings but was good enough.

  2. Can someone help in identifying the following hotel?

I am guessing that this is Gaylord Palms. Thoughts?

  3. Can you help identifying the following hotel on HOTWIRE:

3* - Reston - Sterling - Dulles Intl Airport IAD North

    Dates: 9/18 - 9/21

    3 adults/1 Room

$19 per night (sounds too good to be true??)

    Amenities:

    Airport Shuttle

    Pool(s)

    Restaurant(s)

    Business Center

Also, does anyone know if the Dulles Airport area is well connected to the DC attractions? From what I could find, it looks like there is no direct metro link to the Dulles airport.

    Thanks a bunch!

  4. Wanted to book a 3.5* hotel in the Dupont Circle or White House zones and started bidding from $60.

    Dupont Circle - bid $60 - Rejected

Added White House- DT - bid $65 - Rejected

    Added Springfield - bid $70 - Rejected

Added Mt Vernon - bid $75 - Rejected

Added DC Suburbs - bid $80 - Accepted and upgraded to 4*

    Renaissance Mayflower Hotel

    White House - Downtown

    Washington, District Of Columbia 20036

    202-347-3000

    Subtotal: $240.00

    Taxes & Service Fees: $43.44

    Total Charges*: $283.44

On Orbitz, for the same days, the lowest rate is $179. So I ended up saving more than 50%. Also, the hotel gets good ratings on Tripadvisor and is near the Metro station and so I am very happy with the purchase.

As usual I used the PRICELINE link from this website.

  5. Can anyone help identifying this hotel? It is listed on Hotwire for 1/30 - 1/31 for $85.

  6. Me and two other friends are travelling to Dallas next weekend to see the King Tut exhibit. We wanted separate hotel rooms close to the Downtown area. I started bidding for a 3.5* hotel at $30 for Dallas Downtown area. The bid was rejected. I bid $35 after including Dallas Love Field - Market Center zone. The price was accepted.

    Crowne Plaza Dallas Market Center

    7050 Stemmons Freeway

    Dallas, TX 75247

    214-630-8500

Room Cost (avg. per room, per night): $35.00 (USD)

    Number of Rooms: 3

    Number of Nights: 1

    Room Subtotal: $105.00 (USD)

    Taxes and Fees: $23.88 (USD)

    Total Room Cost: $128.88 (USD)

Orbitz lists this hotel as a 4 * (though some user reviews on Tripadvisor say this is closer to a 3*) and the rack rate is $99 for the cheapest room ($119 with taxes). So we almost got 3 rooms for the price of one!

I started the bidding from the PRICELINE links here. Thank you very much for running this great website.

  7. I was trying to book a 3* hotel room in the North/South strip area for 10/30 - 11/02. I selected North Strip in the first attempt and bid $30. My offer was not accepted. A counter offer of $62 was presented to me. I then added South Strip and re-bid for $40. Again the same $62 counter offer was presented.

    Your Offer Details

    Check-In Date: Thursday, October 30, 2008

    Check-Out Date: Sunday, November 2, 2008

    Region: Las Vegas, NV

    Star Level:

Area(s): Las Vegas Strip Vicinity North, Las Vegas Strip Vicinity South

    Number of Rooms: 1

    Number of Nights: 3

Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $62.00

    Subtotal: $186.00

    Taxes and Services Fees: $28.16

    Total Charges: $214.16

Any idea what would be a good bidding price for me to bid in these two zones? Hotwire also had 3* hotels for less than $60 for these dates.

  8. I booked a 2* room for 3 people and used Hotwire. I got the La Quinta in the Energy Corridor. I have stayed there a little while back and it has been recently renovated. So I am quite happy getting this hotel.

    La Quinta Inn Houston Wilcrest

    11113 Katy Freeway (I-10 West)

    Houston, Texas 77079

    (713) 932-0808

This Hotel features the following amenities:

    Complimentary Breakfast

    Pool(s)

    Laundry Facilities

    High-speed Internet Access

With taxes, the cost was $51. On Orbitz, the charge was $65 with taxes. Not a great savings but not complaining either.

As usual, I started the puchase with the HOTWIRE links from this website.

  9. I was looking to book a nice room in Dallas and didnt care much about the location. On HOTWIRE, I saw two hotels Wednesday night - both 3.5 *, both in Dallas North - Galleria - both with fitness, restaurants, business center, high speed internet and one had an extra non-smoking symbol in the list of amenities (which according to your Hotwire list is Sheraton North) and the other was Prava. One of them had $39 a night and the one that resembled Prava was $44.

When I tried booking it this evening, the Sheraton North deal wasnt showing up anymore but the Prava did show up for the same $44. I went ahead and booked it for two nights. With taxes, the price was $105. The rack rate on the hotel website for two nights was $228. So I got this for less than half the price. I wish I had booked the hotel last night though. I might have ended up saving a few bucks and staying at Sheraton (one of my fav hotels). But overall I am satisfied with this deal. The reviews on tripadvisor seems to be generally positive for this hotel and Orbitz lists this as a 4 *.

As usual I used the HOTWIRE links from this website. Thanks again for running such an awesome website.

After my stay at the tiny comfort inn room in long island city (the smallest I have ever stayed in!). I think I am going to enjoy the space in this hotel!

  10. After another unsuccessful attempt at booking a hotel room in Manhattan and since splitting the bids was not an option I relished, I decided to look for the Comfort Inn in long Island city. The hotel list for priceline indicated that Comfort Inn is the 2.5* property in Long Island City and so I decided to try priceline instead of booking thru Orbitz. I started bidding using the PRICELINE links in thereuare's reply.

Here is the strategy I adopted:

Long Island City - Bid $100 - Rejected

    Added MTE - Rebid $105 - Rejected

    Added TS - Rebid $110 - Rejected

    Added MTW - Rebid $115 - Rejected

    Added MSG - Rebid $120 - Rejected

    Added ESA - Rebid $125 - Accepted (after a 15 minute wait!)

    Comfort Inn Long Island City

    Long Island City

    42-24 Crescent Street

Long Island City, New York 11101

    718-303-3700

I wouldnt have minded getting a hotel room in any of the zones I added, but knew that it was a long shot since I had bid for these zones upto $160 for a week now without much success.

With taxes, the total came out to $446.10. The rate on Expedia for this hotel is $579.43, which means a $130 savings. I read the trip Advisor user comments for this hotel and most of them were positive with the location (1 block from the subway) and rate being the top selling points.

Thank you for all your help and for running such an awsome website. I used the PRICELINE links from the reply by thereuare.

  11. I am trying to book a hotel room in Midtown Manhattan for 3 nights (8/3 to 8/6). Over the last couple of days, I have bid unsuccessfully for a 4*, 3* and 2.5* in the following zones: CPS, ESB, MSG, MTE, MTW, TS. In each of these star ratings, I had started at around $120 and bid upto $150 but no success yet. I saw an earlier posting where someone got a 4* for a date earlier than mine in MTE but I guess the dates I am bidding for are unusually busy days. Any idea if the price range I am bidding for is in the low end?

Alternately I saw that the Long Island Comfort Inn has rooms around $150 on Orbitz but am unsure of the area and how easy it is to get to Midtown and downtown from there using the subway. I am flying into LGA. Can you give me alternatives to staying at Midtown and how easy/difficult it is to commute to Midtown and Downtown from there? My maximum price range is $150 - $160.

  12. After getting ESA for the first two days of my vacation, I decided to bid for a 2.5* in Orlando. I bid $40 for a 2.5* in the Universal Orlando area. The bid was rejected but priceline gave me the option of increasing the bid by $12 for a hotel in that area. I started back again and bid for a 2.5* in the Disney World area at $40. The bid was accepted. I got the Clarion Hotel Maingate. Seems like an older hotel per Tripadvisor but the reviews weren't bad. With taxes, the price came to $98.

On Expedia, the hotel goes for $219 for the same two days including taxes. So overall a good deal..

  13. A friend and I wanted to book the first two days of our 4 day Florida vacation near the Universal Orlando area. Since we were going to be out most of the day at Universal Orlando, we wanted to book something cheap. Looking at comparable 2* hotels on Hotwire, I bid $34 on a 2* hotel in Universal Orlando. Got Extended Stay America Orlando-Convention Center-Westwood Blvd. With taxes it came to $84.

Though this wasnt what we expected, it should be ok considering that we will be here just for the night. The rates on Expedia for this hotel on these dates with taxes is $157. So overall a good deal.

I booked it thru the PRICELINE links provided on this website.

  14. I am looking to book a 2.5* hotel in the I-Drive area in Orlando for 4/10 to 4/12. The following are the ones that come up:

2.5-star hotel in Universal Orlando - I-drive North Area ($39)

Amenities: Complimentary Breakfast, Pools, Laundry facilities, High Speed Internet Access

2.5-star hotel in Disney Main Gate - Champions Gate ($39)

Amenities: Fitness Center, Restaurants, Tennis Nearby, Pools, Laundry facilities, Children's activity Program

    2.5-star hotel in SeaWorld - I-drive South Area ($42)

Amenities: Complimentary Breakfast, Pools, High Speed Internet Access

Can you please let me know what hotels these are?

  15. Wanted to stay near Boston and saw good deals in the Peabody-Salem area.

Bid $43 for a 2.5* hotel - accecpted (which made me wish that I had bid lower but it still looks like a good deal)

    Courtyard By Marriott Danvers

With taxes and fees it came to $151 for 3 days.

The rack rate on the Courtyard website for this hotel is $99, so it was less than half that price.

I have always had a pleasant experience staying in Courtyards. Hope my luck continues with this hotel.

I used the Savingsbarn links to get to priceline.

Thank you for running this great website.

  16. I am going on a week long vacation to the NorthEast and wanted to stay near where I was flying into.

    3* in Manchester, NH - $45 - Not accepted

    Added Concord, NH - $50 - Accepted

    Holiday Inn Concord Downtown

With taxes and fees it came to $61.

The rack rate is $121. So I got the room at more than 50% discount.

I used the savingsbarn links to get to priceline.

  17. I was trying to book a room on priceline (thru savingsbarn links) for a last minute trip to Houston tomorrow (9/2 - 9/3). I really didnt care much for the area as long as it wasnt near Galveston. The cheapest rooms on hotwire were around $32. So I thought I will begin my bidding for a 2* room with $27.

Reliant Stadium - $27 - Bid not accepted

Added Houston Hobby airport - $30 - Bid not accepted

Added Galleria - $32 - Bid not accepted

Added Brookhollow - $34 - Bid accepted. (total $46 with taxes and fee)

I guess this demonstrates how much savings can be realized if one is flexible about the area of stay.

I was surprised to see the following message in the acceptance screen 'Congratulations, you got your price of $34 for a hotel room, and we've upgraded your hotel quality level to a 3-star hotel! '. It was the Crowne Plaze. Brookhollow hotel.

    Crowne Plaza Hotel

    12801 NORWEST FREEWAY

    HOUSTON, TX 77040

    UNITED STATES

This was a pleasant surprise since I had never gotten an upgrade before on priceline.

The hotel's rack rate is $85 and the reviews on this hotel on tripadvisor seems to be good overall.

Thanks again for running such a great website here!
