  2. Thanks for that bidding strategy....although I ended up getting my very first bid! I decided to start $5 over what I had originally thought: I entered $85 for 3* UM-CPS and it was accepted- first bid!!!! I ended up with the "Park Central Hotel" (I hope it's a nice hotel- but at this price I really can't complain!!!!) Your Offer Price: $85.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 2 Subtotal: $170.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $35.86 Total Charges: $205.86 Thanks for all your help, it is so much appreciated!
  3. If you need more specifics, here are my preferred areas (in order): upper midtown/central park south midtown east midtown west midtown south I definetly do not want to bid any higher than $115/night I would prefer to have a 3*, but would consider a 2.5* if 3* is not possible any help with bidding strategy would be helpful!
  4. I agree that it is not a good idea to cut it this close, the nyc plans are sort of last minute, but i am going to toronto in june so i still have quite a while... i think my max bid for nyc will be approx $105
  5. I am looking to visit nyc for two nights (February 23-24). I would like to stay in midtown and will be happy as long as I am in a central area. Anythin 3* or above is alright, and I would like to pay around $90/night Does anyone have a bidding strategy for me? Is $90 reasonable or will I have to go higher? Any help would be appreciated.
  6. i agree. while there are some advantages in booking early, it seems that in some cases the hotels simply aren't available so early in advance. i plan to wait at least another month before trying again. good luck!
  7. I checked out hotwire and there is a 2.5* in North York for $61...I don't think I would take anything below 3.5* though. I am not really familiar with hotwire, perhaps i will keep checking that site to see if anything else comes up in the North York area with a higher star rating. Thanks for the suggestion.
  8. thanks for the link, it was helpful. i have already tried $50 and $55, both of which were rejected for a 4* hotel in downtown toronto my maximum bid, based on previous postings, would be $65 the last time i used priceline, i got the hilton [a 4* hotel downtown, dec 4, 2005] for $65, and that was booked only two days in advance! my plans for june are pretty firm, but since there seems to be no real advantage in booking early, perhaps i will wait and see what kinds of bids are being accepted in the meanwhile... also, i would prefer a hotel in north york (over downtown), but am worried that if i bid for the north-york/vaughen area that i could end up in vaughen....and so i think it is just "safer" to bid for the downtown hotels, where all of the 4* hotels are acceptable, and still not too far from north york....does anyone have any tricks for getting a 3.5-4* in north york???
  9. Is it too early to book for June? Are prices better when booked far in advance or last minute? (thank you for your response byeloe)
  10. I am also looking to stay in a 4* Toronto (downtown) hotel June 21 & 22. Would I have a better chance of getting a lower rate by booking early in advance or closer to the actual booking date?
