  1. Ok thereuare. Thanks for the tip. I guess I was just after some advice in regards to whether the prices are likely to reduce closer to the time. Is August popular time for LA? I'll look into the one night and then the 3 nights to see if that works. Do you think even for the one night, i'm still looking at $100+? Thanks
  2. I've noticed that some people have won the W hotel for under $100.00 so do you think the fact we are there on the lead up to Labor Weekend or that we're there on a Sunday is not helping? We could split our stay but presumably that would only be 2 nights and then 2 nights? Do you think we could get a 4* both times if so? Like I said, we could drop down to a 3* in Hollywood if it guarantees staying under budget but as always, I'm guessing I would likely have to go down the Hotwire path to ensure we don't get the Dixie? The Dixie could obviously be a last resort but has mixed reviews at the moment so not sure about it. FYR - I am currently booked into a B&B for the full 4 nights as a back up but cancellation can be made up to 4 weeks in advance of the trip so we could wait if it means the prices could come down closer to the time. Thanks for your help as always
  3. Hey all Wondered if anyone would have some clue as to what price (approx) it will take to secure a hotel room in LA in Hollywood/West Hollywood/Beverly Hills preferably a 4*. Now I've started bidding early again - so I know that may not be helping, but I've gone up to $94.00 at the moment. Budget ideally would be no more than that. I would be happy to go down to a 3.5* if it meant keeping within budget but I don't think anyone seems to win a 3.5* by the look of the board so far. Any help as always would be appreciated. Do I wait a while and then bid again in a few months time? If I could secure a 3* that was not the Dixie. But the 3* rule would really only apply in Hollywood. Have thought about bidding for the Mon-Thur only and then adding the Sunday after but have so far bid on that also and had no luck. Thanks all :)
  4. I'm not sure if this will help but I wrote down every single zone that I could add as a re-bid zone each time (in my chosen location). So in your case any zone that does not have a 4* rated hotel. Then as I added each zone, it would be crossed off the list :) Sounds complicated but once you get used to it and get knocked back (if that happens a couple of times) it becomes easier and easier and you know your rebid zones off the top of your head if you have to go back a couple of days in a row! Write them down every time though rather than get caught out. Take thereuare's advice though - great way to secure the properties you need! :)
  5. Apologies - and thanks for your help and to the forums help! Couldn't have won the two great hotels I did if it wasnt for all of the advice given throughout the forums! :) Thanks again
  6. Closing this thread as won on Priceline for the same dates. Thanks
  7. Hello all Won The Palazzo for the dates given above for $116 a night. The fact we are staying on a Friday was bumping up the price elsewhere so once again Priceline won out. Used the PRICELINE link given and entered the 'Non US Priceline' details to pay! Absolute great deal as far as I am concerned :) Will close my Hotwire thread now
  8. Ok perfect. There is no way to determine between the two which one it will be then? As ideally I'd prefer it to be the Bellagio if I was to go ahead with it. Seems based on the forum, that Aria seems to come up a lot more right? Thanks for your help
  9. Hi thereuare Was there supposed to be another hotel written there? You've said either the Aria - and then no other hotel? :) Is it the Bellagio possibly? Thanks

  14. Hello all Just to let you know, I stuck with this and have now secured The Warwick Hotel (3*) for $111 a night which works out approx $111 a night. I have to say, I'm pretty chuffed with this as location is spot on. All in all after tax we've paid $544 so not far off the budget at all! :) Thanks for your help again
  15. Hi guys I've now gone up to $117 in the preferred areas (for 3.5-4*). Going to relook at this in a few months time and try again. Alternatively, we may look at renting an apartment as this does appear to be a cheaper option at this stage. Thanks all for your help anyway :)
  16. Thanks Romelle. I think I'll keep within the budget and try to get a 3.5*-4* for now and see where it gets me. Was more worried that the hotels would sellout more than anything else - even with Labor Day, would you say I'm ok to leave it a few months if say this time, the bid fails? Apologies for being so ignorant but I'm not really aware what happens over Labor Day weekend so is it the kind of time people would go away for the weekend? And hence why the hotel prices will stay high for the time being? Thanks
  17. Hey Ok thats a relief - we know its incredibly early to be worrying. Better to be safe than sorry though. In the areas we're aiming to stay within, the Hilton SF Financial District is coming out at $161 then Club Quarters SF is $167 (using the below link posted) Hope that helps. Ideally we want to pay no more than £300UK which is about $475 all in. This does mean though that we're limited I guess as using Priceline, once the taxes are added, I think that was about $101 a night or there abouts. Should we stick with it for now, or drop down to a 3*? Whilst location is key, we wouldnt want to just stay in a 3* if we can get a 3.5*-4* for say $10 more a night. Thanks again for your help
  18. Hi - thanks for coming back to me. Ok so far if it helps I have bit for all of the below locations at 3.5* and 4* - $80, $93. $96 and $99. Financial District/Embarcadero Fishermans Wharf Japantown/Civic Center North Marina/Lombard Street Soma - Moscone Center Union Square West Union Square East Could it be that I am bidding too early in the year? Coming from the UK, we are just worried that if we don't book it soon, there'll be no hotel rooms for us! Probably panicking about nothing I am sure. I have used Priceline before though but only for Las Vegas and had bit accepted on the second time of trying. Just hoped for the same with San Francisco. Any help would be appreciated Thanks
  19. Hi there I am going to be visiting San Fran from the UK between the 29/08-02/09 - i've tried a couple of bids on Priceline - latest was $96 for a 3.5* for most of the Downtown areas. Not accepted though. Looking at hotel prices generally around then, they are fairly expensive. Is there an event on that I dont know about. How urgent if so, is it that I book? If it helps, I ideally would like to stay in Areas 2,3,4,59,12 or 13. So I'm trying to be pretty flexible? How high in Priceline do you think I need to go? Thanks so much - any help is appreciated :)
