  1. Hi, I just want to follow up. I looked at the millenium and I was not crazy about it. I continued bidding on priceline for ESB area only, 4 stars, and kept increasing the price. I was also using $10 cahsback per night from priceline. I tried $130, $135, $140, $145, $150 (all these + "$10" for each night) and never got anywhere. I did not want to risk going 3.5 stars because of the choice and realized that it would probably be best and just bite the bullet. So I stopped on priceline, looked around and ended up booking the Distrikt new york, it is about 6 blocks from where i wanted to be , and it was just opened so price was ok for such a nice hotel ($183 a night plus $20 rebate by mail from Hotels.com) Not really a deal, but there is anot always enough flexibility for a deal :) Thanks for the help
  2. I think i am still looking for some advice to try priceline, just to see if I can get something nicer for the same price. thanks!
  3. I think I was looking to stay around 3-4 stars since I dont get to pick the hotel... I want to stay pretty close, so mte and esb are pretty much it i guess. I did check out the grand union hotel which is $149 at full price, and gets decent reviews for what it is. My sister can get me 10% off so that could OK.. I was hoping to get something a little nicer, but at least I know it really close to the morgan's..
  4. Hi, my sister is coming to NYC from europe and I am meeting her there. She unfortunately for me booked the Morgans hotel which is out of my price range. We are coming friday night leavig monday morning. We are not super picky but dont want to end up in a dump :) I would love to find a hotel very close by, which would run around $100-$130 a night if possible. What do you think I could do with priceline and hotwire? I saw someone got the roosevelt for $126 which seems fine. Wondering if there is any specific to bid on this, I will not forget to use the link :) thanks for any advice
  5. Hi, Could anyone advise how to change the title since I won the Best western the California for $54? Thanks!
  6. Hi thanks for your help I would have been way more patient if we were not leaving in 4 days but I was getting anxious because I did not book any back up yet and was about to book the Palomar for $119 a night. This was kind of a last shot. Bid was accepted anyway and to my surprise i got the BEST western the california for $54. I am actually very happy with this hotel too. it has the wifi i wanted and free wine and cheese hour too :) I started bidding at $54 because a previous bidder (who had won the chancellor at $55) bid at $50 and got rejected. I am thinking I probably could have got the hotel at a lower price but I am glad it is done. Thanks for your help, I will definitely use that strategey next time. We are planning another trip to Miami. I hope I used the right link: I used the search box at the top and was hoping you would get credit from that box as well.
  7. oops sorry edited my post. Adding USe was the first step i took after being rejected for the first time.
  8. Hi, I just thought I would post my bidding history to see if I can get some advice since we are leaving in less than a week now.. Started at $48 with Union square west/nob hill 4 stars, added USE, added 3 1/2 stars, added 3 stars upped my bid to $51 Since then I have rebid at $54 and $58. I would rather get a good cheap hotel than keep going up. My husband is staying for work the rest of the week at the Palomar which is right now on sale for $119 which is why I dont want to go up much more because staying at the palomar would bring convenience.. I saw the chancellor (2.5*) was won for $55 that would be fine. I called and they still have rooms available. I am wondering if there is any way I can start over with a new bid...? I have 2 accounts but they consider them the same anyway even though it is different cc and emails.. Any advice on a better strategy?
  9. Hi thanks for the advice, I ended up going for it after reviewing all 4* stars hotels in both dana point and newport beach area. I started over with a bid of $60 for dana point, then added Newport BEach and got the Hyat regency newport beach for $60 a night! (you always wonder if you should have bid lower, probably would have but I doubt i would have gotten if for less than $50 anight anyway) I was hoping for this one since someone mentionned on another board that usually when bidding for $60 this hotels is the one you get. I am very excited , even though I could have gotten a more luxurious place I am happy since it more than 50% off the website rate ($600 was the total for best online rate) and it was on hotwire for $109 a night. we will have more money to spend while travelling and it is right on the water. I used the betterbidding PRICELINE link.
  10. HI, I am trying to figure out how to get the best deal and not end up with a bad hotel that I did not want. I am looking at orange county and the following areas: laguna beach dana point-san clemente Newport beach-huntington beach might be willing to go for seal beach as well (although dont know much about it) Going 04/10-04/14 2 adults. Looking for a nice hotel, better than what we could usually afford, but not so pricey/fancy that I need to tip every time I breathe. So far I liked, would be happy with: Orange County (Dana Point - San Clemente) 4* Marriott Laguna Cliffs Orange County (Newport - Huntington Beach) 4* Hilton Waterfront 4* Hyatt Newport Beach (previously Hyatt Newporter) (previously 3*) 4* Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach 4* Marriott Newport Beach Hotel and Spa (900 Newport Center Drive) 3.5* Marriott Newport Beach Bayview There might be others, I would like to be on the ocean front if possible.I dont want the Fairmon which just got bumped to 4 stars in the newport zone and that worries me since it is so much cheaper... I am hoping to get something cheaper than $100 a night especially if parking is paying. Internet access needed too. Any advice?
  11. FYI: looks like the fremon hotel in the huntington beach-newport zone in orange county has been bumped to 4 stars.. that makes a BIG difference in that zone, since all the other hotels at this star rating retail at a much higher price point.
  12. Hi, I am going to a convention in vegas from 02/20 to 02/23 and I am looking for a hotel on the strip, not too far from anything so I dont have to pay for the rail. My coonvention offers a free shuttle from most hotels on the strip so that is fine. I NEED wireless internet (even at a fee) in room or in the building so my husband and I can keep working. I dont want to pay more tha $300 for the stay inclusive of all resort fees, taxes, etc.. LESS would be GREAT I had settle on the sahara direct from their sites to have a room booked and then see what last minutes deals will bring (since I could find a decent package deal for these dates) but realized that I would have to pay for the rail to go anywhere and that the internet is not wireless.(meaning only 1 of us could work at a time) Tried priceline: $55 for north and south strip (i think i included south) 3 * offer rejected $69 for 4* north and south rejected too, added convention rejected too. Main goal: get a decent hotel, convenient, with internet, not too far from the action. I have found the imperial for $260 but that does not include taxes or fees. They do ahve good internet apparently. ANy advice??
  13. hello iwell first i ams orry to ask such a dub question but i did search on the forum and dint no find any answer. so here is the situation i hope youcan give me some new-yorker insight! :) i am trying to find a hotel for 2 girlfriends of mine, that never wnet to the states or to nyc. their first priority is feeling SAFE. they re living in paris but they quite afraid of feeling not safe and picking the wrong area. of course it could be nicer if they can have little bars and restaurant around that are not overpriced 3 stars restaurants but let s not dream too much. i am totally lost with the midtown, upper lower manhanttan thing so if you guys can explain that a bit to me... also i thouhgt that maybe they could get a hotel for about $100a night for may 22-24th. is it crazy for me to think that?? theyre not really planning on the 4 stars deal but they re not planning either on the shared dormioty shared bathroom style..! thank you guys.
  14. i just won a bid for a cheap hotel in minneapolis eden prairie ($27) but i cant even find it on the lists of 2 stars hotels on priceline selection for minneapolis.. It is the Extended Stayamerica Eden Prairie. there is about a 100 hotels but not this one.. is it possible? does it happen often? it doesnt show up either when i do a search... i am about to book for 3 rooms in chicago in may i just want to know if it is possible it will happend again... did i just miss it on the list????
  15. we didnt really care where we were going to end up so i just ahd a little fun bidding.. we are three so ill ahve to update you on the double bed issue. but i started with 3 stars roseville for $2o, added mall of america, then university, $21, went for 2and 1/2 stars, added st paul , $25, added downtown, added southwest for $27 ( my husband kept telling me even though it was fun iw as going to spend the whole night there bidding) and we got the extended stayamerica in eden prairie, no picture available anywhere though ! i was hoping for a swimming pool some of the really cheap hotels around had one.. :)
  16. i felt like has started another post but i dont know what hapenned there. basically i bidded last december on a 4 stars hotel for the the 01/06 to the 01/08 in the mag mile area. got it for $145 for the two night including taxes. now we are goint to chicago on the 05/22 and we are going to be 7. we want to be in the same hotel and the question of a room for three is a guess a little tricky. bvut if we have to get another room i think it will still be cheaper than getitng a $110 hotel for all of us anyway. i was advised that river north would be better for us since there is alittle bit more nightlife. we re not planning on going clubbing all night (going with my parents) but we would like to be able to find an affordable restaurant around. and maybe some bars since my dad cant live wihtout beer.. i dont really know chicago but i guess we will go aorund by bus or subway if we want to visit the town. mag mile was nice but too much shops and nothing else really. the ony thing is that i am totally lost in term of area. i cant understand what downtown really means on priceline. we ahve a $70 max budget including taxes but my aprenst are not too bothered and were planning on going to the travelodge(2 stars) . but id like to get them something nicer if ican. or just not let them pay $120 for the travelodge. voila!
  17. i keep forgetting about posting my dates...! i am sorry. so we are going to be 7 (3 couples plus my sister) and we will be in chicago on the 22nd of may. i ahve a real small budget of $70 per room counting on 3 rooms. i did go to the millenium knockerbocker in the mag mile area and eventhought it was nice ,it was just all about shoping mainly (at leasta round) and was real dead at night. so ill be leaning more towards the river north area. i just dont realize how easy it is going to be for us to travel downtown.we do not want to have to use our car. but trolley or bus/subway is perfectly fine i guess. any advice?
  18. hello i be used priceline last january to get the millenium knickerbocker hotel and i need to book 3 rooms (and one for 3 people but i guess ill have to see that with the hotel later on.. by the way is it risky to do that or will they be ok? ) and i am wondering if the downtown or loop grant park area is better for tourists. knowing that we are want to see the modern art museum . i dont think my family is going to do much shopping but it will be nice to be in area with some restaurants (not overly expensive restaurants though..) so what do you think? and if i go for downtown how do i do to not get the holiday inn mart plaza which seems to be alittle bit out of the center to me? thank you for your help? oh.. and also i have nothing agaisnt getting a hotel through hotwire but we re going for cheap hotel.. $70 /night so if you have any good deal..theyll be welcomed! marion :)
  19. well i ve done a separate follow up with i what i won but if it can help anyone: after bidding on priceline i got the millenium hotel on the magnificent mile for $145 for 2 nights including taxes. (06/01/06 to 08/01/06) et voila! i am now trying to get anight in paris airport (charles de gaulle) for the 5th of january..but it seems to get more complicated.i have been bidding 3 times.. i guess i am just going ot have to stop trying to want everyhting for (almost) free :) i bid 3/ 4 stars for $55-$60 and $65 and they keep ffering me a 3 stars room for $100 includign taxes ($87)
  20. hello i am trying to bid on a onenight stay at paris airport (charles de gaulle) i bid $55 for 4stars then added 3 stars on the 11/27 then on the 11/30 i bid $60 i think for 3 stars too and now on the 12/4 i just bid $65 and it tells me "duplicate request" so in between that i did bid once with another account (i prefer using my dad's account since it is for him but i was trying to get it so i used my own account too )but i signed out and closed the browser so i dont see how it could happen because of that ,especially since there was no trace of this request on my primary account (my dad's one) i dont understand did i do somehting wrong?i thought there was a 72h waiting time before rebidding? or i didnt get somehting in the priceline guidelines? thanks for your help
  21. forgot to write it is for 01/06 to 01/08/2006 sorry it is my first won bid.. :)
  22. i was.. ; ) juts trying to get a crazy deal i finally got the 4* millenium knickerbocker for $60 a night for 2 night early january not bad.. i know some people dont like it.. but hey it is right on michigan avenue.. and well i didnt choose. :)
  23. well here it is i won this chicago NMA i first tried 4 stars at $58 and separately 3stars at $55 but for thursday and friday i changed date cause it was more convenient and got the millenium for $60 a night i guess it is not bad (it has some reviews about being old.. but i dont care ab9out that, i think some poeple are just too used to the 'brand new sparkling white charm less hotel" ) i hope i wont have bad surprises.. i just wished there was a swimming pool ;(
  24. nevermind i am sorry my Hotels.com got set on the french one by mistake and so the price i was looking at were in euros... obviously it was too good to be true! as for info for other people the wyndahm site give me a room a $107 for thursday only but a room a $116/night if i take thursday and friday... thanks for your help anyway ill keep looking!
  25. i would be staying on the 5th of january and the 6th of january at the chicago downtown one it seems to be the same deluxe room the cost without tax is 101 something for the first night, 122 something with taxes on the webiste it is 116 without taxes and about 133 with taxes the only think that seems a grey area is the fact that with Hotels.com the cancellation implies a $20 fee before the 2nd whereas i think with thier website there is no refundable policy i was thikning about just contacting them... i guess it is THE thing not to do... what is for sure is that i dont have $267 to waiste thanks for your help
