  2. I ended up in a nice 1-bedroom with a king bed. I don't know whether the sofa turned into a bed (I didn't check). The apartment was very pleasant, and the kitchen was very well equipped (full-size everything). Note: there was a TV in the living room with a DVD player and a home theater system, and a second TV in the bedroom.

  5. In the last 2 weeks or so, the HOTWIRE Reno South area (which contains the Peppermill and the Atlantis) and the Reno East / Reno Airport area (which contains the Reno Hilton) have been merged into a single zone. To the best of my knowledge, before the change the 2.5* w/ casino was the atlantis lodge (typically significantly cheaper than the other options), the 3* w/ resort+casino was the atlantis tower, the 3.5* w/ kids activities was the Reno Hilton and the 3.5* w/o kids activities was the Peppermill (I got all 4 of those in the past). Things may have changed during the area merge, and at the moment all I seem to be getting is 2.5* and 3.5*, both with casino/shuttle/restaurant/pool/fitness/spa/golf/tennis - I'm thinking that Hotwire may have worked to make it impossible to distinguish between the Atlantis tower, the Peppermill and the Hilton (time will tell).
  6. FWIW, the room was smallish, but clean. There was (apparently) wireless internet access, though I wasn't able to check it since I didn't have any wi-fi-enabled device with me. Some people on some hotel review boards complained that the place was essentially a dump, but that wasn't my impression at all. It wasn't brand-new, but it was correct and in line with the 2.5* rating. Worth mentioning, though, is the fact that room keys are plain metal keys, which could be esaily duplicated. Be even more careful than usual to not leave valuables in your room. BTW, when going skiing, the motorlodge aspect is a positive one: there was parking very close to the room, and no need to walk through an antire hot casino in warm ski clothes.
  7. Well, while the room wasn't brand new, it was clean, nothing to complain about. I was worried that it would be as bad as some of the motels around Reno, but it was definitely in a different class. Compared to my first choice (which would have been tower rooms at the Peppermill, the 3.5* choice in Reno South), the $200 we saved were well saved. Like some people mentioned on various hotel-review sites, I was surprised to see that the room keys were, well, plain metal keys. Without becoming overly paranoid, it's likely that the hotel doesn't change the locks after each guest, which would mean that some ill-intentioned person could make copies of a room key - something to keep in mind more than usual if you plan to leave valuables in the room. I decided to leave my expensive digital camera at home for this trip. Apparently there is wireless internet access even in the motorlodge (I know that there is some in at least part of the main tower, but I was surprised to see it in the lodge). I didn't have a laptop with me so I couldn't actually check that it worked. As a gambler, I prefer it when the internet access is wired, as it then goes to my hotel bill and I can have it comped. I'd do it again.
  8. Casino, Shuttle, Restaurant, Pool, Fitness, Spa, Golf nearby, Tenniss neraby, Business center. I was hoping to get the skywalk terrace at the Peppermill, oh well, I guess I'll see the motorlodge at the Atlantis (and I'll enjoy the breakfast and the Purple Parrot and pizza, gelato and mozarella sticks at the Cafe Alfresco). $31 per night, 2 nights, 2 rooms, $124 + 19.25 (tax), total $143.25.
  9. Casino, Airport Shuttle, Restaurant(s), Fitness Center That was a last-minute purchase (about 5pm on the same day) in order to go ski on fresh snowfall, on a week-end when there was a major convention in town. That was the only hotel offered on Hotwire for the entire area. At the same time, other web sites (Expedia, Travelocity"]Travelocity) only had rooms at the Holiday Inn or at small motels - all major casino hotels were sold out. I'd say that the hotel is a notch below e.g. the Atlantis, which Hotwire also rates as a 3*. There's a diner and one restaurant, and the casino is laughably small. Certainly not my first choice, but certainly nothing unpleasant either. Notice that the lobby is non-smoking and is well isolated from the casino. The diner is in the casino.
  10. Casino, Airport shuttle, Restaurant(s), Pool(s), Fitness Center, Spa Services, Golf Nearby, Tennis Nearby, Business Center. $49 per night, $22.34 taxes and fees, $169.34 total.
  11. The room was a tower room, clean and spacious. It's worth mentioning that the window could be opened, which is unusual in casino hotels and was well appreciated by my wife who has a sensitive nose. Internet access was wired and reliable but not speedy. $11 a night. My request for a non-smoking king room was taken care of. The entire floor was non-smoking. I asked about a suite upgrade but at $100 a night decided to not take it. There was an extra "energy fee" of $3.36 per night.
  12. Shoot, made a mistake in my post, that's 3.5*, not 3*
  13. Casino, Airport shuttle, Restaurant(s), Pool(s), Fitness Center, Spa Services, Golf Nearby, Tennis Nearby, Business Center. $35 per night, 4 nights, $23.28 taxes+fees, $163.28 total. I will post more information about the kind of room I got when I return. At the moment the Expedia prices for the Peppermill at the same dates are $53 (annex), $71 (tower), $111 (suite), $161 (imperial suite) (all per night). Same prices directly on the peppermill site. I'm going to extrapolate here, but the information might be of some value anyway. It's an extraplation, not a hard fact, you've been warned, take it with a grain of salt: -I also had an option for 2.5*, $22 a night, in Reno South, with the exact same amenities, which might be the Peppermill annex (i.e. the motel rooms at the back of the parking lot). -There was also a choice for 3*, $37 a night, also in Reno South, with the same amenities plus "Resort", which might be the Atlantis (I'm only aware of 2 major casinos in Reno South) - that would match the Oct 1 post by ladyz.
