  1. I was looking at 11/20 for one night in downtown Philly for the marathon. First, I tried $40 for a 4 star downtown and didn't get it. Then I tried the same price for a 3 star downtown and didn't get it. Then I tried $43 (which is the price that other people on this board were using) for downtown or airport. I got the Hyatt Penns Landing downtown. I've read some of the reviews. While it's gotten mixed reviews, the regular price of the room is $200, so I'm happy with my price. Thanks to all of you for saving me money.
  2. The hotel is a bit of a walk from the main shopping and restaurants, but it's a nice boutique hotel with very elegant rooms. The only downside is that I didn't get a great room. It overlooked the parking area, so I heard the parking valets getting cars late into the evening. But, for the money, it can't be beat. I would definitely stay here again.
  3. I first tried $75 a night for the Westminster region, which I heard was convenient. I also wanted to get Rubens on the Palace. I didn't get it, but was offered an option to rebid at $97. That was more than I wanted to spend, so I went to my second choice - Bloomsbury/Marble Arch. Based on other posts, I knew I'd probably get a Thistle hotel, so I bid $70, and got it. I've read some mixed reviews of the Thistle Bloomsbury, so I have my fingers crossed. On the plus side, it's in a great location.
  4. I stayed there this past Saturday (August 23) for one night. Contrary to some critical reviews I've read on the hotel, I thought it was a very nice place. It's a great location -- next to Grand Central -- and a few blocks from Time Square and Fifth Avenue. The rooms were large and modern. The bathrooms were a bit small, but not unusual for New York. The bonus for us is that tennis players were staying there for the U.S. Open, so it was a good chance to do some stargazing. I recommend this.
  5. I've been trying for days to get a hotel room in Midtown. I went through several rounds of bids earlier in the week in the $95-$105 range but got nothing. Having been to some crummy hotels in the city, I limited myself to 4 star hotels. (Although after reading the posts on this site, it seems that there are some 3 stars that are actually better.) After the 72 hour period had elapsed, I started at $110, then $115, and ended up with this hotel at $120. It's a good location but some of the reviews on Trip Advisor.com haven't been great. But given what I saw on Hotwire, I figured this was about as good as I was going to get.
  6. I got this room last month on Priceline. The hotel is in the business part of downtown but a short walk to the ballparks, the waterfront, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Hard to imagine this is a 3 star hotel. It's very nice and in a cool old building.
  7. I just got the 4 star Doral Forestal, which is right off Route 1 in Princeton. I got the room for Friday, August 22 for $55. It's a nice hotel, although a bit corporate. The rooms are nice, and it's quiet because it's tucked back in the woods. It's fairly convenient to the university (about a 10 minute drive on Rte 1). I'm very happy with the price.
