Going to a conference in July. It is being held at the Hyatt Regency Chicgo. My wife and one kid are coming so would like to be 1) fairly close and 2) indoor pool. I used the BB links for this, any ideas? 2 adults, 1 child. 7/13 for four nights 4-star Hotel in Downtown Chicago - Millennium Park - Grant Park 95% HW recommended. 4/5 trip advisor rating. So as follow-up, I called HW. They explained that the low price guarantee does not apply to such discounts as AAA and entertainment. He was nice and so was I. I politely asked if I could cancel my reservation. He offered me $20 in HW credit to make up for the $10 in difference b/w the HW price and the trip insurance that I bought (which I wouldn't have needed had I used a refundable reservation). So I'm pretty satisfied with HW. I will be more careful in the future. I normally post my hotel on BB and then double check the rate after you give a prediction. It always works out great. This time, I didn't and almost got snagged. Thanks BB! As always, I use your PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links when bidding.

I'm bummed. The hotel is fine but when I compared the rates I didn't get much of deal. Through HW I got it for $89, however online there is a special that includes parking ($20 value) for $109 so no saving there (and it wasn't a nonrefundable fee). Worse, they have the entertainment rate for $79! I screen captured the page, I guess I will try to get refunded the $10. Pain. I've used HW a lot and this is the first time this has happened. this is the hotel I expected. Booking directly is more than double (even with non-refundable) so a good deal. My plan was to take the wife and kids to the local hotel as a surprise treat BUT I didn't due my due diligence and this hotel doesn't have a pool. Maybe I'll get a sitter and make it a date-night! Started at 45 then went to 50 with a free-rebid zone. As usual, used the BB PRICELINE link.

I booked using the HOTWIRE link on BB. The rate went down to $200 per room! (about $250 with taxes/feeds) I'm really pleased. This compares to $270 on Expedia. Interesting, when I tried to compare with what might pay if I book directly at the hotel site, it would only take a reservation for two nights (not just one). 70% of HW customers recommend this hotel. So the 4* in MTE on Hotwire went away when I was ready to book. I was bummed b/c I thought I could do pretty well with PL. Anyway, started at $120 and used free-rebids and got accepted at $140 per night at the Empire Hotel. I'm pleased. Haven't stayed on that side of town before and the hotel looks nice. The best I could get online was ~190.00. There is one 4* in CPW on HW and that goes for $159. So pretty happy! As usual, I used the PRICELINE link on the BB site. Since I'm not familiar with that part of town, any ideas in terms of restaurants? Good value and good eats? Thanks BB.

Interesting. When I chose 2 adults that hotel doesn't come up (at least with free breakfast) but with 2 adults / 2 kids, it does. Weird?

Regarding the statement "My guesses are the Intercontinental Barclay or the Roosevelt, but didn't know if any of you pros might see something that makes you more certain than my guesses. If Barclay, I think I might jump on it. Otherwise I'll likely use the PRICELINE link and try my hand there as I've seen a few Barclay and Waldorf bookings around my price range." Is something wrong with the Roosevelt that you wouldn't take it?

Thanks for the information. Usually I go straight hotwire because I have two kids. Since it is just my wife and I this time, I may try PL to get a lower price. Any of those hotels sound fine to me. Based on the HW offer, would you suggest starting bidding at 90$ and then use my free bids upward? Also, if I get a win on PL, should I report the win in this thread (technically a hotwire thread, right).
