  1. After $30 Better Bidding coupon final price was $280.20. Nice location, and palatable price. SO Happy! Pet friendly, Indoor pool(s), Smoke-free rooms, Fitness center, Pool(s), Restaurant(s), Business center, Internet access, Golf nearby
  2. An update. It turns out the extra $15/night upgrade for an ocean view room was a mistake. After a bit of research, the resort has a Grand Club room experience. Essentially, another floor or floors at the resort, separate check in, breakfast and lunch included, use of non-motorized beach equipment, etc. I was offered the upgrade for $150/night. I could have applied the $15/night savings towards the Grand Club upgrade.
  3. I went the Priceline route. By the time I checked, the PRICELINE EXPRESS price changed to $263/night. Still better than Hotwire. I tried bidding, $210, failed so I added the Cancun Airport (no five star). Rebid at $220, no go. Priceline sent me a 10% off coupon for PRICELINE EXPRESS, that knocked the price down to $236, so I figured why risk additional bidding for the less than $16/day difference in price. Win posted in Priceline Forum, but just in case, PRICELINE EXPRESS amenities: Business Center Restaurant Free Internet Indoor or Outdoor Pool Fitness Center No Smoking Rooms/Facilities
  4. Thank you for your help! Advice was spot on. Difference in price between Priceline Express and Hotwire was about $13/night. That paid for our ocean view upgrade. Amenities: Business Center Restaurant Free Internet Indoor or Outdoor Pool Fitness Center No Smoking Rooms/Facilities
  5. Trying to decide which hotel to go with, the 4* that has a 95% Recommended rating, or the more expensive 5* with a 90% Recommended rating. Having a name to go with the property would help greatly. Amenities: 4* Free parking, Beachfront hotel, Business center, Fitness center, Golf nearby, Internet access, Pool(s), Restaurant(s), Self-service laundry 5* Free Internet, free parking, Beachfront hotel, Business center, Fitness center, Pool(s), Resort Restaurant(s), Suite Looking to purchase today, and of course through the Betterbidding link. Will report back my choice and hotel ID.
  6. Paying the site back. Researched the heck out of this hotel, day of check in fingers crossed I hit the Book Now button and got the hotel I wanted. Fantastic hotel, just be aware of the following charges: 1. Tax recovery charges and fees $71.76 2. Parking $29.00 3. Resort fee I believe was $40.
  7. Paying it forward. I used the Hotwire link in the betterbidding header to book. Price dropped from $180 last week, to $154 yesterday, $145 today. Happy with choice, close to the park and we needed Free Breakfast, Kitchenette a BIG bonus.
  8. Decided on three room. Started with O'Hare North at $55, rejected. Then added O'Hare South $59 Accepted for Hyatt Regency O'Hare. Of course I used the site's PRICELINE links. :-)
  9. Selected Evanston only from 10/21-24. Started at 60 and slowly added different locations > 3 1/2 * going at $5.00 to 10.00 increments. Something must be going on in town because I regularly score rooms in the $60-$70 range no problem. This time, my luck ran out. Will try again once the 24 hour lockout expires.
  10. Strange. Was hoping for the Hotel Orrington. Didn't want to play the Priceline game, so even though their were winning bids for $45, I put in a bid of $55. It was immediately accepted, but for the Doubletree North Shore.
  11. Strange. Was hoping for the Hotel Orrington. Didn't want to play the Priceline game, so even though their were winning bids for $45, I put in a bid of $55. It was immediately accepted, but for the Doubletree North Shore. I needed another room for my parents, so I put in a second identical bid (Priceline even confirmed), but this time for $45. Wouldn't you know it, Hotel Orrington was the the winning hotel. Hmmm, now which hotel to give to my parents ;-) L-O-V-E BetterBidding.com
  12. Expensive lesson learned. I tried the Orbitz link within 24 hours of posting, but Allegro was no longer available. Priceline, I bid up to $150 for three rooms, with tax it was going to be around $170/night. Bid was rejected. I was going to go higher, but with the Orbitz coupon (Thank You!), I reserved rooms at my hotel of choice (Palmer House). Granted, not $62/night but the premium over the other alternatives was not that much. What I had learned/forgot about. I should have locked the rooms in on Orbitz, and then cancelled if I won the Priceline bids. I've been using Hotwire and Priceline for so long now, I forgot all about having the option to cancel reservations when using Orbitz. You win some, you lose some. Thank you BetterBidding!
  13. You snooze, you lose. In my defense, had a tremendous # of things to take care of the past few days. Today: 07/31 to 08/02, 2 rooms: Chicago Loop - Tried $94, rejected O'Hare South - Tried $110, rejected Midway - Tried $120, rejected Skokie - Tried $125, rejected All out of free bids for the day. HOTWIRE backup is now up to $135/night. I would have done with the botique hotel, but trying to keep family together.
  14. I don't believe this is the same hotel I was referring to the other day, but the price is the same, $115. Boutique, Fitness, Restaurant(s), Business Center, High-Speed Internet. I also followed up on my Priceline bids. Loop $99 - Rejected O'Hare Airport South $102 - Rejected Midway $106 - Rejected Licoln Park $109 - Rejected
  15. There is also a 4* on HOTWIRE for $115 last I checked in the Loop area. I'm not certain it's Palmer House though.
  16. Today: 07/31 to 08/02, 2 rooms: Chicago Loop - Tried $82, rejected O'Hare South - Tried $92, rejected Midway - Tried $98, rejected Will give this a bit more thought. I'd like to keep the group together, but maybe a 3 1/2*?
  17. Tried again: 07/31 to 08/02, 3 rooms: Chicago Loop - Tried $63, rejected O'Hare South - Tried $83, rejected Midway - Tried $89, rejected Lincoln Park - Tried $92, rejected Will try again in the AM.
  18. OK, I figured out the whole Zones thing. Just like the instructions say, go to the Priceline site, I clicked on each zone individually and noted which ones were did not have 4* hotels, in combination with the Loop hotels: O'Hare South - Tried $63, rejected Midway - Tried $67, rejected Lincoln Park - Tried $70, rejected Skokie - Did not try yet. Was hoping for some feedback on what I should bid before trying. I can't help but think if bid again at $62 it would work. Maybe if I waited 24-hours? Very curious. Will continue to use the betterbidding PRICELINE link and will continue to post results.
  19. I chickened out and ran with the information that Riesling provided in a recent post: $55 "Millenium-Loop-Grand Park": denied $60 add "NMA-River North": denied $62 add "Skokie - Niles - Evanston": accepted 4* The Palmer House Hilton $62 for 4 nights 7/31-8/4 Great deal~~ Won on my first try with a bid of $62 for 3 nights, 7/30-8/2. How I LOVE this site. Issue though, when I tried the same bid $62 for 2 nights, 7-/31-8/2 for other members of my party (3 more rooms), the bid was rejected. The next step then for me to rebid is to add another zone that does not have a 4* in it, correct? Any suggestions? I checked NMA-River North and there was a 4* there. I think I ran into this problem before, maybe I'm not looking at the right screen? Thank you.
  20. Palmer House is definately a great option, but I'm interested in seeing what Priceline has to offer. Max. budget is $99/room.
  21. I think we may have looked at the same condo! I'm in a similar situation. I've noticed you've posted before, so you are aware that you may not always get the hotel you are hoping for. As for the condo, since I have kids and don't care to eat out all the time, I find condo's more convenient and actually cheaper long term assuming the price spread is about $50-$60. Why? Condo's tend to have considerably cheaper parking, you factor in meals per person and $6 for breakfast, $8 for lunch, and $10 for dinner per person eating out everday tends to add up. Gotta go, kids are calling, but I'll be checking in later.
  22. As long as they are within walking distance, I don't believe it would be an issue. Will definately be using the PRICELINE links provided :-)
  23. Looking to celebrate a birthday and my wife's graduation by driving to Chicago and meeting up with family. Sister lives near Grant park and I'd like to take the kids to Shedds so the South Loop is ideal. The closer to Grant the better. We'll be there one day before the rest of the group. I'm picking up the tab for the rooms so any cost savings would be most appreciated. As always, Thanks in Advance!
  24. The rates are unbelievably high. There must be some sort of event going on. Regardless, I took a different approach and rented an apartment for the listed dates. Will try priceline again for another trip. Thank you everyone.
