Really wanted Mt. Vernon area, and tried that first, bidding $44. Didn't win, so added Alexandria East - Old Town. Got Red Roof Inn, which is near Huntington Ave and Richmond Highway in Alexandria East. With tax & fees hotel it is $55.53. This was for a Thursday night 9 days from day I bid.

Over the course of a couple days, ending 5 days pre-travel, I bid $50-65 for 2 star hotels in Virginia Beach areas of the beach itself, Pembroke, and Lynhaven with no luck. I then got a little "bid weary" and increased bid to $67 plus added Norfolk Airport area, which is not all that much farther from where I wanted to be. I received the 3 star Hilton near the airport. With taxes and Priceline fee the total was $85. I am happy with my win, and while I paid a little more than this cheapskate was hoping for, I am happy to be spending a Friday night at a nice place instead of the one-star but closer to my destination alternatives. I wish I had considered the Norfolk area earlier!
