  1. You were exactly right. I booked on Hotwire the Intercontinental hotel in Buckhead for 176 plus 53 tax/fees. What? 53 dollars in taxes/fees? I didn't notice that before I booked, but will pay more attention to that number next time. That is 30 percent of the cost in taxes and fees! Highway robbery as it were. What we have to watch for in the future is a strategy by hotwire and priceline that shifts some of the overall cost into the "fees" line in order to entice people to their site and then hope they will book without looking at the ridiculous fees involved. (If it is mostly Atlanta tax -- sorry Hotwire, you aren't to blame for that.) Bottom line...the hotel is perfect and the price was right--at least before taxes and fees. Thanks for your help on this one.
  2. Thanks. I reported on that stay, and it is fine to close it. ( I didn't see how to do that, but will check again.) I am actually more interested in location than anything else. Other than that, I would just go with the highest rated hotel (factoring in the reviewers ratings, which I find are a big help) for the best value. If that 5 star is the Intercontinental in Buckhead, I would be very interested in that. Thanks. --David
  3. Looks like I stayed at the Sonesta for 169 per night. Hotel was fine and good.

  5. Priceline has a similar deal for the same time frame, Jan 16-Jan 19, 2015. 4 Star Hotel in Ft Lauderdale Beach Area for $140/night. Taxes and fees add 67 dollars and a resort fee adds 99 dollars. Rated at 8 out of 10 or higher. Amenities: Indoor or Outdoor Pool Restaurant Fitness Center Free Internet Business Center Thanks.
  6. This one may be more interesting. Again a 4 star fort lauderdale beach area hotel in Hotwire. In Hotwire, this is 138 dollars per night for this week, Jan 16-Jan 19. (The normal price is 324 according to Hotwire.) Taxes and fees add about 74 dollars to this cost, and Hotwire estimates that the resort fee will be 75 dollars. (Would be nice to know if the resort fee covers parking or not, but no info on that.) The hotel is 90 percent recommended. Amenities are: Resort Pet friendly Near beach Smoke-free rooms Fitness center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) Business center Self-service laundry Thanks!
  7. 4 Star Hotel in Ft Lauderdale Beach Area for $163/night Price.line has this express deal for this weekend in Fort Lauderdale beach area. There is an added "hotel fee" for this location, which is over 100 dollars for a 3 night stay. So not as inexpensive as advertised. But would like to know what hotel this is. Has an 8 plus rating. Here are the stated amenities: Indoor or Outdoor Pool Restaurant Fitness Center Free Internet Business Center Thanks for any help on this.
  8. Wondering what this hotel might be. Hot.wire has this 4 star "hot rate condo" for $291 this weekend. 95 percent recommended. 4 Star Fort Lauderdale Beach Hotel Amenities Near beach Studio Full kitchen Smoke-free rooms Daily housekeeping Air conditioning Laundry in room Fitness center Pool(s) Thanks.
  9. Thanks for the help. I was checking out PRICELINE with some bids and got The Iroquois Hotel, 4 star, Midtown West for $180. I was moving too fast on that, though, and should have realized I had a few more bids to go before going quite that high. The consolation is that it is a fairly highly rated hotel. A bit farther from my target because PRICELINE has that odd shaped Midtown West area.
  10. I think the Novotel would work well. Is that in the Midtown Central or the Times Square area? (They change the prices a lot it seems so not sure which one might be Novotel.) Thanks!
  11. Sounds good. Thanks. Location is the main thing, since I will be in and out of the hotel over the course of the day. And a comfortable room with a desk to work at. That is about it. Have been working the 4 star properties, but 3 is fine if a better value. Here is the closest that HOTWIRE has now: 4* $185 4-star Hotel in Midtown Central This Hotel features the following amenities: Fitness Center Guests have access to exercise equipment; an additional charge may apply. Restaurant(s) Property offers at least one restaurant on the premises; hours and days of operation may vary. Business Center Guests have access to business equipment and services; an additional charge may apply. High-Speed Internet Access Guestrooms are equipped with high-speed Internet access; an extra charge may apply.
  12. Very helpful, thanks. I am trying to find a hotel for under 190, or a lesser hotel under 160. Something like that.
  13. I think you are right about that. My problem is that I need something close to 54th and 7th ave, which is the Midtown Central area (or Midtown West in PRICELINE). Open to ideas on this. I have tried shortening the stay by a night, and getting a hotel closer to the airport for Monday night. Am open to lower rated hotels, if the price is right and the user ratings are reasonable. My experience has been that below 8 on PRICELINE will usually disappoint in some way. Thanks!
  14. I went into the "book now" screen and came up with this: 4-star Hotel in Midtown Central This Hotel features the following amenities: Restaurant(s) Property offers at least one restaurant on the premises; hours and days of operation may vary. Business Center Guests have access to business equipment and services; an additional charge may apply. High-Speed Internet Access Guestrooms are equipped with high-speed Internet access; an extra charge may apply. Accessible for the deaf TTY for telephone, visual or flashing fire alarm and vibrating alarm clock Accessible path of travel <amenity names only please... not descriptions> Roll-in shower Bathroom has a roll-in shower Thanks. --David
  15. This looks like a good price in New York City, Midtown Central. The price is 171 per night for 8/10-8/13 and the user rating is 90 percent. Any ideas on the hotel? Here are the amenities: Fitness Center Restaurant(s) Business Center High-Speed Internet Access Accessible for the blind Accessible for the deaf Accessible path of travel In-room accessibility Accessible bathroom Thanks, David
