  1. I add the loop when I am around $110 for the NMA zone and then when I add the loop, I relower my bid to the $80 - 90 range and add bids of 90, $110 and $120 so as not to overbid for the loop. I really don't want to pay more then $110 and only want to stay in 4* star hotels. Once you have gone 4 star you cant go back! I compromise my 4 * values when I am bidding in NYC though sometimes coz that place is wacked from time to time.
  2. Thanks thereuare, with 6 free rebid zones for 4*, I am going to start with bidding the NMA zone and then with the last 3 rebid zones add the Loop zone. I will go as high as $145, if that fails, I will break up the nights and try for individual nights, don't mind moving around and experiencing different hotels. Historically sunday nights are usually a no-brainer, saturday nights a bit less easy. Using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links are a must, if one enjoys the benefits of this $ saving message board !
  3. Thanks for your bit ot looking around on my behalf, , I will try and rebid tomorrow and go up as high was $125. on Priceline. After that I will expand to other areas since I will have a rental car and can drive around easily enough.
  4. Oh ok great. Thanks AaronJB. I am visiting Chicago June 25th (Saturday) and 26th (Sunday), these should be easy nights to score decent properties on PRICELINE. I hope. I am expecting an awesome 4 * in the River North-NMA zone, under $100? Looking for great places to walk, be near water, good places for spectacular breakfast and amazing dinners, and maybe a nightclub to go dancing at. Am I being realistic $ wise? AND...... I always use...... this site's PRICELINE link to start my purchases. :-) Update: Inched my way up through 6 rebid zones up to $110.00 , no wins in the Millennium Park-Loop-Grant Park zone and the River North-NM zones.
  5. Bidding for 4* hotels for Chicago in a few weeks and no idea what is the main downtown area with nice hotels? Can anyone tell me the main zones to try?
  6. Entering through the Betterbidding PRICELINE link...... Bids of $70, $75 and $80 were rejected, and then $85 was accepted. Marriott Toronto Bloor Yorkville Downtown Toronto North 90 Bloor Street East Toronto, Ontario M4W 1A7 Sat, Feb 26 Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: US$85.00 Subtotal: US$85.00 Taxes & Fees: US$19.39 Total Charges: US$104.39 It is 145.77 (CAD) total on the Marriott Toronto Bloor Yorkville website, so $40 is not the biggest savings in the world but better than nothing.
  7. Here is how I approach that ( because I am very fussy about being in a great room) ...and some version of this works for me everytime . When you check in - smile at the front desk person and say "I know I am a third party booking....but....pleeeease don't banish me to a Priceline dungeon room in the basement" :) ...they laugh and almost always dont send me where they were going to. AND if they do send you to a crappy room, I would just go back down and smile again and say "that room is depressing man...have you got anything nicer???" They will give you a new room 90% of the time. But you gotta be playful about it and not be demanding nor unhappy to the staff person....you have to make their day better from having given you great service.
  8. Going through the Betterbidding PRICELINE link of course :-) I just got the below hotel: Took 2 bids. Started at $85, was offered room for $100 by Priceline, which I rejected and rebid $90.... and was accepted. February appears to be a slow time for hotels but this price is still not bad. Affinia Manhattan Madison Square Garden - Convention Area 371 Seventh Avenue Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $90.00 Subtotal: $180.00 Taxes & Fees: $47.28 Total Charges*: $227.28 Thank- you everyone who contributes to this great message board!! Saves me big bucks each time.
  9. Saw poster Codex's win at $70, and I knew it was a shoe in. Thanks Codex for posting and thanks Betterbidding for saving me $ Went to Priceline through the Betterbidding PRICELINE link of course :-) Started bidding at $60, which was declined and was offered a room for $75 by Priceline I rebid at $65, then $69 and then bid $70.00 which was ACCEPTED - love that magic word. The Hyatt is pretty nice for that $ Hyatt Regency Toronto Downtown Toronto South 370 King Street West Toronto, Ontario M5V 1J9 Check-Out Date: Thu, Dec 16, 2010 / 12:00 PM Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: US$70.00 Subtotal: US$70.00 Taxes & Fees: US$17.13 Total Charges: US$87.13
  10. AaronJB Thanks for the good advice you gave, I found a hotel where I had stayed before that worked better for me then the Sheraton. Using the Hotels.com link on BetterBidding, I booked 2 nights at the Hilton Garden Inn New York/Chelsea Arrive: December 17, 2010 Depart: December 19, 2010 Two Queen beds city view-Non Refundable, Free Wireless Internet, non Smoking Total Price: $554.78 (Inc. tax recovery charges) Tax recovery charges: $76.78 Thank-you Betterbidding.com for saving me thousands of $ over the years .
  11. Is anybody masterful at this guessing game? It is a Midtown Central 4 star Hotel being offered on Hotwire Recommended in 80 % of Hotwire customer reviews Restaurant No Smoking Fitness Business Center High Speed $238/night 12/17-12/18 I think it is the NEW YORK SHERATON, can any BetterBidding detectives give me thier 2 cents on this? :)
  12. I started by accessing PRICELINE from the Better Bidding link as we all should :) Took 3 bids: 1st bid at $120, 2nd bid at $135 and accepted bid at $140. Sunday nights are not a hard night to score a reasonable price in any city....even New York City. I have stayed at the Renaissance New York Times Square Hotel before, great location. I am happy. Thanks Better Bidding. Renaissance New York Times Square Hotel Times Square - Theatre District 714 7th Avenue New York, New York 10036 View Map and Directions Check-In Date: Sun, Dec 19, 2010 / After 04:00 PM Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $140.00 Subtotal: $140.00 Taxes & Fees: $36.77 Total Charges*: $176.77
  13. That is an excellent hotel and $90 a super price! I stayed there this summer (bidding through the PRICELINE link on this board) and was upgraded there to a high floor room with an open air balcony (normally locked but unlocked by a room service person who came to change the bedding) and unique architecure feature (1 of only 4 rooms in the hotel) by being nice to the front desk person and asking them about an upgrade and not being too busy offered me one for free.
  14. Joggers ( marathon runners ) must have big bucks! To be able to visit NYC and drive prices up tho this digree :)
  15. My mind has explored all the loopholes but what I decided was no food between 6PM and 6 AM but I also dont want to be too fanatical about such regemins so I might make an exception in this case, we shall see. Thanks for the tip!
  16. Actually my bid was for two nights Saturday and Sunday but you are bang on about weekends. They ( hotels on Priceline) have always been cheaper and more accessable on weekends in my experience in almost every city.
  17. I LOVE local tips such as this!! Thank-you. Even though I have a committment to not eating after 6 pm to manage my weight, alas they dont open till 7:30 PM!!
  18. Was this a good win?? I have no clue! I do't know the area nor the hotel. This NYC marathon week has been a bear!!! :) ...an expensive city bear! Wellington Hotel Central Park South 871 Seventh Avenue At 55th Street New York, New York 10019 Check-In Date: Thu, Nov 4, 2010 / After 03:00 PM Check-Out Date:Fri, Nov 5, 2010 / 12:00 PM Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $185.00 Subtotal: $185.00 Taxes & Fees: $45.90 Total Charges*: $230.90 Used the links on Betterbidding to access PRICELINE of course! I searched other priceline accepted bids on the betterbidding board and I may have paid a record high for this place! Oye veh! :) Bu it is still less than what it costs on the hotels website for that night. :o
  19. Oh and I did and I always do use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links :) to start my purchases and searches. :) It is a very small thing to do given the huge amount of $ this site combined with 3rd party purchases save me each year!
  20. Not a bad price but a standard win for the area. Started bidding at $60 , went up 5$ at a time till I was accepted at $75. Was hoping for the Hyatt :) but the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel will do the job. :) Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel Downtown Toronto South 123 Queen Street West Toronto, Ontario M5H 2M9 Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: US$75.00 Subtotal: US$150.00 Taxes & Fees: US$29.06 Total Charges: US$179.06
  21. Was this post edited? I posted 2 additional comments here that I do not see? I also had a new thread removed. I support this message board but would find heavy handed moderation a bit off putting. I ended up booking directly through the hotel and got the Hilton Garden Inn New York/Chelsea area at a total of $259.00 US a night for those nights, and garanteed 2 queen beds whihc is what I needed. I can't believe I am paying that amount of $ given what I normally pay on Priceline in other cities.
  22. My guess is that the current Hotwire offering at $259 3.5 star is the Distrikt Hotel and I called the Distrikt Hotel and they said they only only have single king bed rooms available forthe Nov 5 weekend :)
  23. Oh ok, I am unsure about that but one thing is that I made a msiatke not starting a new thread on it's own and posts cannot be deleted AND I want to start a new thread about that 3.5 star hotel equiery. How do I do that? Oh and Aaronjb, any clue which property that might be? :)
  24. Can someone please help me identify that hotel in the Chelsea/MSG zone on Hotwire? Stay: 11/05/2010 to 11/07/2010 Price: US $259.00 :) "recommended in 85% hotwire customer reviews:" This hotel features the following amenities: Fitness Center Restaurant(s) High-speed Internet Access
  25. Using the HOTWIRE link on the board to begin my search ( of course) .... I am seeing a 3.5* Chelsea/MSG 11/05/10-11-/07/10 at $259 option on hotwire....could this also be the Distrikt hotel? "Recommended in 85 % of Hotwire customer reviews"? My main concern is i MUST have two double beds. I researched all the hotels listed in the betterbidding hotwire hotel list and they all seem to have two doubles. Given how high prices are right now I am thinking of taking it - even though $259 is OUTRAGIOUS!!!!!!! Has anyone ever not been able to get two double beds on an accepted Priceline or Hotwire bid? I started a new thread asking about this and it was deleted. Why would that have been?
