  1. Used the PRICELINE and was able to book Sir Francis Drake. Was hoping to get something under $200 but after several attempts and re-bids, wasn't getting anywhere. Finally got the win at $225.00. Based on what the reviews its not a terrible property, but not the best either but the location seems to be very convenient. Thanks to all the contributors on this board for sharing their feedback which helped me!
  2. Using the PRICELINE link was able to secure booking in MTL for the Victoria Day long weekend - $130 USD / night. Had to rebid 3 times, adding different zones without 4* (first adding Longueuil, then Anjou, the Midtown) and finally won. Started at $110, 120, 125, 130. Hope this helps others with their bookings.
  3. Wow thats awesome. Thanks again AaronJB. I'll go through your list and let you know if i have any other questions. Much appreciated.
  4. These are amenities for this property: Pet friendly Indoor pool(s) Smoke Free Rooms Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) Business Center Self service laundry Internet access AaronJB, could you please suggest some restaurants, family friendly ones. Thanks again.
  5. Yay!! finally booked the hotel. It was a little bit above my budget but I think its a pretty good deal for a nice property. Ended up booking on hotwire - CAD $195.91/night - Hilton Chicago (July 19-23). Thanks again for everyone's help and input.
  6. still on the hunt looking for a hotel.......saw this deal on hotwire and would like some help trying to identify this property please: Downtown - Millennium Park - Grant Park area 3.5* 90% reccomended Amenities Free Internet Smoke Free Rooms Fitness Center Restaurant(s) Business Center Self service laundry Listed at $165.night, regularly $216 Thanks in advance
  7. Thanks for the advice on the boutique hotels. I think I am going to do a regular booking with free cancellation and then continue my search through PRICELINE EXPRESS deals. Splitting our stay may be too much of an inconvenience. I will update this thread once I confirm my bookings. Thanks again.
  8. Thanks for all your input. This site has been great help (although i haven't actually booked yet). However, i do not see the $130-140 range you mention for 4* properties. Maybe I missed out on them? Also our preference would be to avoid a boutique hotel unless you guys have some differing opinions?
  9. Hi, we are planning a family vacation July 19-23. We will be travelling with 2 small children (3 yrs old and 10 month old) i am looking for some help identifying this hotel: Guest Score: Rated 8.0 out of 10 (or higher) guest favorite Guaranteed Amenities: Indoor Swimming Pool Pets Allowed Restaurant Business Center Fitness Center Express deal has this listed for $192/night. Intercontinental Chicago? I saw some else just post that they were able to get this property for $135/night albeit in August. I was hoping to pay $175 or under a night. Any tips or suggestions would be welcomed. AaronJB, you've provided some great info in this IL forum!!! Any other recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  10. Thats a sweet deal!!! I just tried searching priceline for the following dates - Dec 31/12 - Jan 4/13 in Maui and its showing daily rates of $179+/day?!?!? Am I missing something here? How could the daily rate be the same as your entire booking?
  11. Thanks everyone for all their suggestions and tips. I ended up booking on PRICELINE but not through the bidding side. I tried numerous times bidding up to $160 and was not successful. I booked through PRICELINE discount side and got the Hilton Financial Downtown for $159/night. Appreciate everyone's help!
  12. Just try rebidding, and went up to $150 and still no success. When would I see counter offers? Are they emailed to me? I'm thinking to just book with the provided rates from Priceline as opposed to risking it and waiting. It is the Memorial Day long weekend.
  13. Thanks for the tips crito. I guess it just comes down to personal preference? As someone who has been to Boston before (by the sounds of it) you would still favour Omni? Other factors, we will be traveling with an infant and will need access to public transportation.
  14. Thanks for the great idea thereuare. I will have to take a look to see if the rates i found are cancelable. I also always use the links from this site to access PRICELINE and HOTWIRE
  15. I tried bidding again just before my last post - using 4* in the following zones: Boston Common - Theater District, Beacon Hill, Quincy Market - Financial District as the areas I am willing to accept (but also rebid up to $150 using the 5 rebidding zones) I would have thought as well that i would be successful around the $120-130 bid but surprisingly enough, nothing.
  16. I have not had any success with my bidding, i have bid up to $150 and still unsuccessful and no counter offers. I just went back onto PRICELINE and HOTWIRE to search the more conventional methods and was able to find: Hyatt Regency Boston - $177/night Omni Boston Parker House - $169/night Hilton Boston Financial District - $159/night I was about to book the Hilton at $159 but wanted to get the experts opinions? Of the 3 properties, which one would you guys suggest? (trip advisor ranks them all very closely) Since the $159 is so close to my max bid recently, am I just better off booking this through the more conventional routes? Thanks again everyone for their feedback.
  17. Thanks Romelle, I was able to identify the areas you mentioned that are 3* or below. I think i understand this more advanced technique now. I will give it another shot and see what I come up with. For anyone who is familiar with Boston, how convenient are the following areas: Boston Waterfront - Convention Center Boston Harbor Front - Aquarium (remember i'll be travelling with an infant and need access to public transportation. Thanks for everyone's help.
  18. This is the first time I am using priceline. The preferred zones for our stay are the following: Boston Common - Theater District, Quincy Market - Financial District, Beacon Hill, Copley Square - Back Bay. Which other areas can I use just for rebidding if i use 3.5* minimum. Best I can find which is acceptable is the Hilton in Financial District for $160/night (hotels.com) Can you outline a bidding strategy for me if I am going about this all wrong! Thanks again.
  19. Thanks, I visited your PRICELINE link again and inputted my trip #. I have selected 4*-3.5* with the following areas: Boston Common - Theater District - $85 - rejected Boston Common - Theater District, Quincy Market - Financial District - $90 - rejected Boston Common - Theater District, Quincy Market - Financial District - $95 - rejected Boston Common - Theater District, Quincy Market - Financial District, Beacon Hill - $95 - rejected Boston Common - Theater District, Quincy Market - Financial District, Beacon Hill, Copley Square - Back Bay - $95 - rejected I will try again for the above tomorrow at a bid of $100? How likely would I be to secure a room in the same area/price range if I were to drop to a 3* rating? How much of a difference is there from 3* to 3.5* in the downtown Boston area? Thanks!
  20. I clicked the PRICELINE link and started a bid at a bid of $90. It was rejected, but i did not see a message about waiting 24 hrs before trying a new price. Am I missing something?
  21. I will be going to Boston for the first time May 25-28. We will be travelling with our infant son and will be using public transportation to get around. Can someone please recommend the best area to stay in. Preferably we would like a 3*-4* hotel, trying to stay with a budget of around $100/night. Thanks in advance for your help.
