  1. I wish I had read this post! I booked the same night for $165 because I was rejected at lower rates ($130 - 150) when I tried on Friday and Saturday night. Next time I'll start my bidding lower. Congrats!
  2. After multiple attempts and a little compromise, we landed a 4* for $165 in Tribeca using the PRICELINE links from betterbidding. Thanks everyone!
  3. I tried 4* MTE/MTW/CPS to $195 with no luck. I came across a Double Tree in downtown for $192 on hotwire ... should I just pull the trigger or keep bidding?
  4. So I went 4* up to $185 in midtown and downtown ... no luck. I'm wondering if I am better off waiting until early next week. What do you think?
  5. I've tried 4* up to 175 in the midtown area and 4* in downtown up to 150 with no luck. I think we'll have to bump up the budget to 200 and keep looking midtown. How would the 3.5* compare? Would we be better off in a 4* downtown? What about the upper west? We're pretty flexible and don't want to stay in a crappy place.
  6. Hi Verbat, Thanks for the welcome and the information. We were hoping to get a 3.5 - 4 star. The Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins has been helpful. I wouldn't say that we have a preference other than being in Manhattan ... assuming that getting from downtown to mid-town is as easy as everyone says it is :)
  7. Hi all, I just came across this forum and have found previous posts to be very helpful. My wife and I are visiting NYC for the first time over the Easter weekend. We're flying in to JFK early Friday morning and leaving late Sunday night. I've been checking hotwire rates for the past week or so and wanted to get some advise for priceline bidding. Hotwire rates for downtown is at $180/night Hotwire rates for midtown is at $210 - 240/night I'd like to get something for about $150/night or lower. We're planning on taking the subway or walking most of the time and visiting the typical attractions (times square, central park, watch a show, etc.) Is this realistic? We're planning to take the airtrain from JFK to Jamaica station and head into Manhattan. Is this our best option? Since we'll be there in the morning (way before check-in), will the hotel hold our bags? What would be the charge or tip for this? Thanks in advance.
