Used the PRICELINE link from betterbidding Priceline Maps. Was focused on location and making sure the place was nice. I'd been tracking PRICELINE EXPRESS and Hot.wire for a few weeks, and this weekend had seen higher prices than most. Tried first for a 4 star at this price, next day 4 star at $140, when that failed, $130 for 3.5 star. This hotel did not previously appear on the priceline maps, so hopefully this is helpful to people in the future. I probably could have gotten a better price, but I'm happy enough.

Used the link from better bidding to get to both Price.line and Hot.wire.
Couldn't get a price/area/star level I liked (80-85, 3.5 and above in the central and south areas of Manhattan), before I gave up and went to express deals. Priceline Express had a four star in what they call Midtown West for $96 plus $27 in taxes/fees. Hotwire had a four star in Midtown Central (which is mostly the same area) but with $30 in taxes/fees. Hotwire was runing a $10 off deal so the final price ended at $115.82 vs the $123.85 that Priceline offered.
I forgot to change the date for my win post. The dates should have been Saturday night, 3/21/2015-3/22/2015. Editing won't allow me to change the dates and I can't find a link to delete the post so that I could resubmit.
Was looking for one night if I found it cheap enough. I had seen $80 on PRICELINE EXPRESS for a 3.5 Star near Madison Square Garden, but when I went to buy it was gone. I used the PRICELINE link from the better bidding front page. I was in a hurry so I didn't have time to get the best possible deal (people were complaining so I only had time for two bids at most), selected almost half of the areas in Manhattan between Wall Street and Central Park South, bid $75 and got this hotel.
Base: $75.00
Taxes: $23.67
Total: $98.67
Interestingly I was given an option in the confirmation email to book an additional night at the same rate. I don't know if it would work and I didn't need it, but that would be WAY lower than the New Years Eve rate.
I had seen a 4 star in Midtown East with fitness center and business center listed at $108 in PRICELINE EXPRESS Deals. Used that to determine my ceiling.
Booking Monday before 4th of July weekend. 4-star at each step. Started with Midtown East and Downtown-Financial at $80, went up in $5 increments adding (in order) Midtown West, Times Square, Central Park South.
Two nights $190
