  1. Just scored these rooms for a quick night-before-departure hotel. I offered $53 for a 3*, PRICELINE's bot came back with an offer of $62, and I accepted. I'm happy with the Hilton Garden Inn at this rate. Just wish it included breakfast! Maybe we can add it at checkin. I tried this yesterday and PRICELINE responded with an offer of $79 per night, so it pays to wait a day if you can. And of course, I used the PRICELINE link from this site.
  2. Dear daughter has a lacrosse tourney this weekend. The team rate at the local Embassy Suites Charlotte Airport was $109. I'm happy to have scored a $56 per night rate on Priceline! I do see that some have gotten it for less, but I'm satisfied with the savings since we'll be just 2 miles from the rest of the team. Enjoy! Now, off to find something for the 4th of July...
  3. Hello, I actually believe that all beaches SHOULD be public, but in this case, it was more public beach than a mixed use beach. I grew up on the Outer Banks and ALL of those beaches are public beaches. I'm completely accustomed to sharing the beach, but this was so small that it's major use was from street traffic, not hotel access. So, you had to tolerate the hotel's inconveniences of it trying to control access to the hotel. (Show your room key going in and out of the pool area or to use hotel chairs on the beach, etc. Hotel employees tried to run us off the chairs three or four times until we showed our hotel key.) That being said, you can go down the beach (east) from there and will find very nice beaches with wide sandy areas and plenty of space. Enjoy!
  4. This was a great value for this hotel. It's very convenient and the airport shuttle is a plus. The only remark I would make is a cautionary one. We arrived at 2:30am after a long drive, to find that even though I called three times, (Once regarding the room configurations of being close together (for our teens) of 1K and 2Qs for 2 rooms and twice to advise that we would be a late arrival due to traffic and thunderstorms) they gave one of our rooms away. We were placed in 2 king rooms on separate floors and different ends of the hotel. We then shared that this was not going to work and they gave us a second king room across the hall. It took a half hour to get this resolved, and I still can't understand why they couldn't have done that in the first place. I know that we are not guaranteed the room configuration, but we were told, "Well, you booked through Priceline and should have booked with the hotel directly if you wanted any security in your reservation." It seemed like the two folks at the front desk were just trying to make a point. Not nice. Especially not at 2:30am after an 8 hour drive through thunderstorms. But it was fine and was a great rate.
  5. I'm pleased to report that our stay here was just fine. I would not describe it as a "resort" hotel and I think it's rated too highly, as some parts of the property are tired and a bit worn, but it was FINE for the price and location. Housekeeping could be stepped up a bit. The beach is a huge disappointment. It's actually a public beach with access from the main road in front of the hotel as well as a gate from the pool area. Because it's public and accessible straight from the street, there was a great deal of trash and glass on the beach. The water was pretty, and it did seem to have a bit of protection because of the enormous rock formations at the mouth of the lagoon, but it could have been cleaner. The hotel did seem to handle the full capacity well and it is very convenient to Old San Juan. The price made it a good choice.
  6. I'm very pleased to report that our stay at this resort was wonderful. Our Hilton Gold status was honored and we were upgraded at check-in, along with a few other Gold perks. We truly had one of the best vacations we've ever had. Enjoy!
  7. Nice work, Toledo! Is it bragging if we're saving? My hubby says no... It's not being a mamby-pamby. :) It's actually a bit strange to us, as we ALWAYS stay in a vacation rental home where we're going since we are five people. It's usually the cheapest/nicest alternative for a large family and our teenagers can bring friends at no additional expense. This time, it's just the five of us, though. Thank you to all who provided guidance via this board. It certainly helped!
  8. Just booked 2 rooms for $116 per night for April 4 to April 7. I'm done! Using PRICELINE, I was able to $1900 on our vacation and that's no exaggeration. The Marriott Airport's least expensive retail rate shows $135. We booked two rooms for one night at $56 each, a savings of $158. The Waldorf Astoria El Conquistador's least expensive retail rate shows $279 for a garden view room. We booked two rooms for four nights at $105 each, a savings of $1392. The Conrad San Juan shows a least expensive retail rate of $197/night. We booked two rooms for three nights at $116 each, a savings of $486. To top it off, we have three free full-sized car days with National, a savings of $99. We saved $75.25 on airport parking by parking at the hotel and booking our parking in advance at the Marriott MCO. We booked our flights on Spirit for $182 each including luggage fees. That requires us to drive down from Atlanta, but the ATL to SJU fare was $638 when I was booking, so even though we'll have a hotel night, the savings there is $456 each or $2280. All in all, not a bad spring break trip for a family of five. (Yes, I've called both hotels to arrange our room configurations.) And yes, I used the QuickQuote PRICELINE link from this page to book! :)
  9. I just got two rooms for $56 each at the Marriott Orlando Airport for the night of March 30th bidding on Priceline. It was my first bid, so there's a chance I could have gotten it for less. The bonus is that I called the hotel and can park our car there for a week if I reserve and pre-pay $4.25 per day. The airport parking starts at $15 per day. They have a free airport shuttle, of course, so that's an easy transfer.
  10. Lauren - that MIGHT be the Cheeca Lodge, although I thought the $300 range was their least expensive room.
  11. I'm actually stunned with this success. Years ago, I tried Priceline for a 4 start New Orleans hotel and it was fine. I tried several bids for a Puerto Rico resort hotel outside of San Juan a few weeks ago, to no reasonable conclusion. BUT - I scored last week! I was able to bid on a resort hotel in the Rio Grande area for $105/night. I got 2 rooms at that rate and then extended it 2 more days for a total of 4 nights! What a great deal for a beautiful resort! Now off to find something elsewhere on the island for three more nights.... I might try the Condado Hilton one!
