  1. Tried 3* at 40 yesterday for all TPA areas and had to wait 24hrs for retry.

Tried 3 * again for TPA West and South area at $44. Strangely engouh PL gave me a warning saying it is too low and I ignored it. Luckily, it accepted that rate and upgraded me to a 4* Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay.

I must say I have heard others say they ignore the warning message on the bid being too low, but in my experience this was the first time it actually for me rather than against me.

    I used the PRICELINE link.

  2. Hello, I have started to book on PL for my business travels on a weekly basis now. I have also bookmarked your PRICELINE link and start my bids from there.

Having used PL for years now, I have some technical questions which I am hoping an advanced user may be able to help answer and give me some insights in bidding better so here they come (for simplicity sake, I've kept the names of the hotel to A & :)

    1) I've noticed I can get one of the two 3.5 star hotels in the area I work in. One of them, hotel A, I get it for $45 dollars almost always. The other hotel, hotel B, I almost always get it for $55. I have a good feeling these are the only 3.5 star level hotels in the neighborhood I want to be in so my odds are 50:50 depending on availability. My question is, supposed if both hotels are available, and I bit $55, will PL give me Hotel A or hotel B? In other wards, does PL go by the most margin it can make out of my bid and offer me Hotel A or does it use a different algorithm, such as Hotel B gets 1st preference because there are more rooms available for Hotel B? I am sure there is a logic to how PL awards the winnings, but does anyone know?

    2) I noticed there is *some* relationship between the hotels that shows up on Hotwire and what you see on PL, but not always. For example, Hotel B has not always shown up on Hotwire for me to win this hotel on PL. Can someone confirm?

    3) Does the number of rooms a hotel allocates to PL depend on the projected or forested number of occupancy for that hotel? Also, do these numbers change as cancellations and new bookings come to the hotel? The reason I ask is, I can always go to the hotel

  3. wanted to start the bid at $30, but got a 'low bid warning' in red from PL. Since the star level was too low, and it was only for one night, I went in at $35 and won the bid.

Just curious, does anyone know how often is PRICELINE correct when it says your low is too low? I've read from this forum that a few have won their bids even with the 'low bid' warning from PL. I personally have never won once by ignoring the message, and I've been using PL for over a decade now.

oh , and I used the PRICELINE link.

  4. won this at $48 night for 9/20-9/24. Used the PRICELINE link. Here's something interesting I noticed along the way, I wonder what PL's logic is behind this:

    Bid1: $42 IAD - retry page.

Bid2: $43 IAD, area B- got page saying raise price by $12 (okay, at this point I knew I was getting close)

Bid3: $45 IAD, area B, C- got page saying raise price by $13 (it raised the amount by $1, strange logic, isn't it?)

Bid4: $47 IAD, area B, C, D- Retry page (now, that's even more strange. I was expecting another counter offer from PL)

    Bid5: $48 IAD, area B,C,D,E- SUCESS!!

  5. Used PL strategy to get the 3.5 * Marriott Troy for Friday night.

Started at $42 and went all the way up to $55 with all other areas selected with the exception of Auburn Hills (the only 2nd zone with a 3.5*)- No dice.

Finally got a bit frustrated and picked Auburn Hills at $60- and won 3.5 * Hilton Suites Auburn Hills.

    Here are the details:

Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $60.00

    Subtotal: $60.00

    Taxes & Service Fees: $14.42

    Total Charges*: $74.42

    Used the PRICELINE link.
