  1. Yellowdog, I always use the PRICELINE link when I bid, just didn't put it in the post. Have done this a few times before over the years and always support this site. Just missed a paste. When I checked in, either my request had been noted or my conversation with her at check-in worked. I had asked for one of the balcony rooms. You are right, never give up until you are in the room. Although, if you had been a fly-on-the-wall of that initial phone call, you would think, as I did, would never happen. Being a smoker, the balcony made the difference and it was a great trip. Web stie room rate was $128
  2. Took a shot at East Lansing 3* for $50. I added Lansing and raised this must book to $60, the Courtyard By Marriott. Called them, asked about room type, was told, priceline rooms do not qualify. They are priceline rooms. Blew me off quickly. I do not know what to expect, but I know up front what they think of priceline bookings. Maybe I shoule wear my Marriott Shirt from my days consulting them.
  3. When I stayed in Amsterdam in early May a few years ago, I stayed at the airport for around $75 a night. Saving over $100 a night buys a lot of shuttle service.

  10. Best rate on hotel website 80 Euro at $1.47 = $117.60 a night. first bid was $45.00 and accepted. Used the PRICELINE link as usual.
  11. Gave it my best shot for a 5* in Soho, but failed at $200. So, restarted at 4* and failed at $125, so added Marble Arch and reduced to $115. Have been bidding this for a week without success in Soho. Up to $140 with various dates. May have started too soon, but I did not want to wait this time, too many additional plans to make. Very likely an overbid, but happy getting the beginning of the trip settled. Monday, 10/12 is the bad day. I didn't want to change properties, so could have been worse, I'll post an updated review after the trip. Used the PRICELINE link as always. Thanks again
  12. Thanks Colfax, you were right, the star playing continues. "Congratulations, we
  13. An FYI about this area, I just looked for Southfield 12/31/08-01/04/09 now is showing 4* available for bids. It wasn't available when I bid and received the Westin. So if Marriott and Westin are 3.5* there must be another unknown property available...or they are playing with ratings/confused. I have also confirmed 3.5 stars in my internet bidding travels. How often do they play with stars? When I looked at my history, the summary bid stars for Westin are 3.5, but when you look at the property detail, it has 4*. I'd vote for confused. The trouble is whuch do you bid 4 or 3.5? I also saw on their winning bids scroll, 4* Southfield $60. Happy Holidays to all.
  14. First bid $49, rejected. Zones very limited, only 1 free rebid, and increased the bid to $54, which was accepted. I used the PRICELINE link. Great place, stayed there in the past.
  15. Bid $65, then $75 accepted. Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: US$75.00 Subtotal: US$225.00 Taxes & Service Fees: US$40.22 Total Charges: US$265.22 65% off Used the PRICELINE link from a posting here, equals regular link I hope. Hotel best rate CAD 249.00 + charges & taxes = CAD 281.37 Always good to note, the taxes per night were 32.37, total 97.11. Saved over half there too.

  18. Check-In Date: Sat, Dec 9, 2006 Your Offer Price: $40.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $12.93 Total Charges*: $52.93 Bid $35 for 2.5* in West Mifflin added Greetreen and increased to $40. Property Rate: $99 +tax = $112.86 Used SavingsBarn.com pirceline link to bid. Thanks!
  19. Thanks, so far, very nice. Update: Overbus station is: 250 Meters away. Don't get off at Hoofddorp, go to the airport, much easier. The bus stop at the airport is as far left as possible in bus row (from shuttle curb cross to 2nd landing.) Pay when boarding.
  20. This is a continuation of a prior bidding session that can be viewed using this link. http://www.betterbidding.com/index.php?showtopic=23482& Bidding is an interesting thing if you want to be creative. I would suggest being creative while it lasts. As a programmer, you are always working to prevent bugs, and sometimes you fail. That said, as expected, rates changed. 4* City Marriott went up 40e to 269e = $331 4* City Renaissance came down 70e to 159e (139e single bed) = $196 3* Airport Courtyard at 171e = $210 Took a shot at 5* for $125, failed, add 4* at $90, failed. New bid 4* for $100, failed. Counter offer is now up to $143. Note: NH has 4* rooms as low as 109e, a bit out of the way, but in city and available. Added 3* Airport, Bid $55, failed, counter offer for $15. New Bid, $60, accepted. Your Offer Price: $60.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 2 Subtotal: $120.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $16.30 Total Charges: $136.30 For those on short trips to AMS -- from the Courtyard to Center City take the 300 bus. Overbos station, across the street from hotel (150 M), you have a choice. Take bus to Hoofddorp train station, where you can get the train to Amsterdam Central Station (40 Min) or Take bus all the way to Amsterdam, Bijlmer (Foppingadreef) station, Very South East Amsterdam, but an outstanding station. Good thing, the return bus trip is available until just after Midnight. Hotel shuttle bus doen't run late, so there is no late night option, except a taxi from airport at 25e+ Hotel is about 20 min from airport. Used SB.
  21. hello rapazfreiburg, I agree, in part, due to the dates, that the $100 price is not likely to succeed with the Marriott. A holiday in Amsterdam end of April. However, I stayed at the Marriott last year, with a successful bid of $90, when their web site was at 209e. With the Apollo at 144e, Jolly at 138e, and Sofitel at 149e, I don't think it is time to panic -- yet. Reward point stay is still available at both Marriott and Renaissance. Really don't want to overbid for the Apollo. For such a short stay, I'm even considering taking a shot for a 3 star airport (Courtyard) which has been successful at $55-65. The 300 bus has great service and terminates at the Bijlmer station, which is perfect. Thank you for your comments, they are greatly appreciated. I used to consult Marriott, occupancy % is an important number. Just wish I still had system access, lol.
  22. Have been trying for a few days now. 5* tried $130 add 4* tried $115 4* new bid, $120 I didn't know that the above bidding pattern would all be accepted as valid bids, they were. Counter offers started at $140 have now gone up to $142 from priceline 5* Hilton 221e = $272 Sheraton Hotel Pulitzer sold out Sofitel Amsterdam 149e = $183 4* Apollo 144e = $177 Marriott 229e = $281 Renaissance 229e = $281 Jolly 138e = $170 Crown Plaza = 165e = $203 Radisson 209e = $257 Going to keep trying $95/100 for 4 star for next few days.
  23. Tried various bids upto $80. Finally, accepted at $85. Web site rate
