  1. I used Priceline's newest offer of Pricebreakers. They listed 3 properties for ($44 us)$58 canadian dollars. Treasure Island, MGM Grand and Polo Towers. You will get one of the three at the rate.  I had the Excalibur booked for $240us (approx $325 canadian) originally and decided to try this. The total with resort fees is $369 canadian dollars and I got a Studio at Polo Towers. This is great as it has a mini fridge and microwave so I can head to the Walmart and grab some food for the 3 days and not have to always be out at the restaurants to eat. The room also comes with a balcony. Now I just hope the mini fridge comes with a small freezer section in it. The one bedroom suites come with a full kitchen but the rate was much higher and it is just me going.

  2. I had already booked the Econo Lodge for one night and decided to try Priceline to see what I could get instead. I canceled that booking after this win. $86 is what I would have paid for it total so for $30 more for a better hotel I say it is perfect.
Attending a concert in Niagara Falls, Ontario. So I started with this in Canadian dollars

    Clifton Hill 4*--------$70----Declined

    N. Niagara Falls---$75---declined

    St Catherines-------$80---declined

    Welland--------------$85---ACCEPTED

I have never stayed at the Sheraton On The Falls so for a total of $108 ($116 with the Hotel Fee that is charged at checkout) I am definitely happy with this. The location is perfect at the foot of Clifton Hill.

  3. Heading to Detroit to attend The Weeknd concert November 1st. I have to stay in Detroit instead of WIndsor due to the WIndsor-Detroit Tunnel 8 month construction happening with nightly closures. I did a 4 star bid but got nothing. Did a 3.5 star and here is what I got:

    3.5* Downtown Detroit- $114-----declined

    added Bellville------------$115-----declined

    added Canton-------------$116----ACCEPTED

I have stayed here twice last year and love the location being right acrss from the Tunnel and RenCen. Everything is within walking distance too plus the People Mover is upstairs.

  4. It is pointless to bother. Taking the hit and moving on is best. It is a lesson learned. There is no way I am going to take a $60 cab ride from downtown Detroit to the Airport area then another cab ride the next day downtown and then back etc. I will spend more on cab rides than the cost of the room. Mistakes happen on both ends, in the end it is all about business and sometimes when a company makes a mistake the customer still pays. I talked to them twice, the second time the guy said he contacted the hotel manager who said no the reservation cannot be canceled and refunded. I called the hotel to talk to the manager and no manager was on duty. So to me it is just the procedure the CSR at Priceline was to go through. It is just going to be a drawn out process of them telling me that all results are final. It is a $350 lesson learned. I will just move on from it and use Hotwire more. The rate I bidded was $140 the first time when it was just Downtown Detroit 3* and then $150 when I added Belleville 2.5* bidding for a 3*. I told the hotel to cancel the reservation as I won't make it, and explained it to the woman who she said yes you would have a hard time getting there from downtown unless you took a cab or drove. I am taking the train from Toronto to Windsor. So I said it is better for business to cancel and the hotel can fill that room and make money instead of having an empty room.

  5. Well I am out $350 as I was bidding on PRICELINE and started with a 4* for Downtown Detroit and went down to a 3* Downtown Detroit. When I added Belleville as a rebid which has 2.5* I ended up with the Hampton Inn Belleville/Detroit Airport. $350 for two nights Fri May 20th=Sun May 22nd.

I called Priceline right away and they said its non-refundable. Not sure what happened as I sure did not click 2.5* to bid on. The guy contacted the hotel who refused to cancel. So I just bit the bullet and lost $350 Canadian. Called the hotel to inform them that they can make more money as I will not be arriving. There is no way I can get all the way out to the hotel from Downtown Detroit and then keep going back and forth by cab as I would be arriving by train at 10pm friday. Not sure if this has happened to anyone else but it is a first for me. So I will switch to HOTWIRE instead now. It is only $350 but still. Sucks to take a hit that much.

  6. I decided to try to get a room for the one night in Niagara Falls instead of taking the Fallsview Casino Bus to and from Niagara for the Starship concert at Fallsview.

Here is how I bid knowing that 4* Hotels were listed high on Hotels.com I decided to start with 3.5* instead:

    Fallsview 3.5*- $110---declined

    add St Catherines- $115---declined

    add Welland- $120---declined

    add West Niagara Falls---$125---declined

    Clifton Hill 3.5*- $110---declined

    add St Catherines- $115---declined

    add Welland- $120---Declined

    add West Niagara Falls- $125---declined

    Fallsview & Clifton Hill 3.5*- $127---declined

    add St Catherines- $130---declined

    add Welland- $135---declined

    add West Niagara falls- $140---declined

    Fallsview 3*- $125---declined

    add Welland- $135---declined

    Clifton Hill 3*- $125---ACCEPTED

Not sure if I could have started with $115 but either way on Hotels.com it was $209 for the night. In Canadian Dollars I bid

Total $159.50 total with taxes & fees for this win

Hotels.com total would be $246.06 with taxes & fees. So not bad saving $87.

  7. Heading back to Motown for the Drake concert with the girls I know in Detroit. After we had a blast at Rihanna and I stayed at the Doubletree Fort Shelby in March and next will be Beyonce and staying at the Atheneum Suite Hotel in June, we got tickets to Drake for August 16th. So I figured I would try to get the Courtyard Marriott as it is conveniently located by the Tunnel so it is easy for me to come across from Windsor and then head back across to Windsor to head home to Toronto, and it is just down the street from the Joe Louis Arena where the concert will be at.
The Express Deals had it listed for $134 a night ($325 total for the two nights) Canadian Dollars. I figured I would try to see if I could get it for less bidding and I did.

    3* Downtown $115--failed

        Belleville $120--failed

        Canton $125--WON

Total was $305 Canadian Dollars for the two nights. I stayed here last year in November when we went to see Stevie Wonder at the Joe Louis Arena.

This hotel is great, love the location. Rooms are big and the staff are great. Busy hotel too

  8. So I had won a bid for Sat March 26th-Sunday March 27th at the Radisson but wanted to add a Friday night to it as I figured I will be returning from Windsor-Detroit Friday evening and it makes no sense to go home that evening and then head out to Niagara Falls Saturday morning/afternoon. So it gave me the option of $111 canadian dollars and I went with it but nothing was available. So I thought why not bid and go with a 3.5 star at $111. Well I ended up with the Marriott Gateway which is right beside the Radisson. So it will be funny that I check into the Marriott around 9:30pm Friday night and then Saturday afternoon check into the Radisson next door LOL. What a laugh. Makes for an interesting 2 nights in two hotels and then I see Duran Duran in concert Saturday night at the Fallsview Casino.

  9. Help ID 3.5* Ottawa-Byward Market

The amenities are: Free Internet, Airport Shuttle, Fitness Center, Pet Friendly, Restaurants, Self Service Laundry

Accessible Path Of Travel, In-room Accessibility

I have two guesses based on the list Novotel Hotel but they do not have a shuttle listed or Lord Elgin but that hotel is not in the Byward Market area. Both are excellent hotels and this listing is $92 dollars (Canadian). Wed July 6th-Fri July 8th.

    Any idea anyone?

  10. The amenities are listed as follows:

    Free Internet
    Free Airport Shuttle

    Smoke Free Rooms

    Fitness Center

    Restaurants

    Business Center

    Self Serve Laundry

    Internet Access

This works awesome, the location is perfect, so much around and across the street from the Greektown Casino, plus an easy walk to Ford Field. And the rate with the exchange rate to Canadian Dollars for the location alone is fantastic. Pretty sure in the coming couple of months the rates will rise the closer to June it gets and will probably end up sold out. With about 45,000 fans expected to be there, I am sure Detroit's hotels will fill up fast with people coming from all around.

  11. After trying Priceline 4*, 3.5* and 3* hotels up to $130 (Canadian dollars) a night I decided to checkout Hotwire and seen that what seemed like and turned out to be The Atheneum Suites for $132 a night (Canadian Dollars) and figured I may as well snag it now. As I am attending the Beyoncé concert with my friends in Detroit and figured if I wait longer, the rate will go up. Awesome location as Ford Field is right there.

  12. I am attending the Rihanna concert in Detroit with friends and upon bidding it never dawned on me that this was going into the Easter Weekend so I couldn't figure out why in March the rates were so high.

I tried with a maximum bid of $100 for 3*-4*. Then went up to $115 then $125 and finally $135 all rates in Canadian Dollars.

So after the rebidding 4 different days with 4 different maximum bids I got the Doubletree Downtown Fort Shelby.
So far I have had Greektown Casino Hotel, Westin Book Cadillac Hotel, Courtyard Marriott Downtown Hotel and now the Doubletree Downtown on my now four different times staying in Detroit between March 2015 and March 2016.
Thanks guys for teaching me the strategy it works awesome and I have received awesome rates. On Hotels.com the going rate is $178 Canadian Dollars a night ($410 for the two nights) compared to $135 Canadian Dollars a night ($317 for two nights).

  13. Decided to try Price.line for when I go see Stevie Wonder in concert in Detroit on November 21st.

Tried 4* and 3.5* up to $125 each and no luck.

Decided to take a chance with a 3* and got the Courtyard By Marriott

    Downtown Detroit 3*----------$80--declined

    added Belleville----------------$90--declined

    added Canton------------------$95--declined

    added Roseville---------------$98---ACCEPTED

    Bidded in Canadian Dollars

  14. Me and two girls I know had decided to plan a trip to Detroit for Labour Day Weekend. We were looking at Sat Sept 5th-Mon Sept 7th.

I had booked the Holiday Inn Express & Suites for $354us (Approx $455 Canadian dollars) until I could possibly find a cheaper rate.
So I did Priceline and here is my bidding: ***All bids were in Canadian Dollars***

    Downtown Detroit 4*-------$120---rejected

    rebid---Auburn Hills---------$125--rejected

    rebid---Belleville-------------$127--rejected

    rebid---Canton---------------$130--rejected

    rebid---Farmington----------$133--rejected

    rebid---Livonia----------------$135--rejected

    rebid---New Center----------$140--rejected

    rebid---Novi--------------------$145--rejected

    rebid---Plymouth-------------$148--rejected

    rebid---Southgate------------$150--rejected

    rebid---Utica-------------------$152----------ACCEPTED!!

Total for two nights with taxes $357 Canadian Dollars.....Now sure we may have a problem with only getting a room with one bed, but hey I will sleep on the floor and let the girls have the bed, it is only two nights. Thanks guys for all the help in the past as I always remember when I was new to this.

  15. Ok so I have a Friday Feb 20th reservation that I won on Priceline for $89 Canadian for the night. Now I found out that some co-workers will be in Niagara Falls Sat Feb 21st so I said I will see if I could book another night. I tried the add another night option but I am guessing it is too late because I had won this back in December. So I figured I would try Priceline again and see if I would end up with the same hotel

4* Niagara Falls- Fallsview Blvd-----$65 declined

added Niagara On The Lake------$70 declined

        added North Niagara Falls---------$75-----ACCEPTED

So $14 dollars cheaper than what I got for Friday night. Same hotel. I Just stayed there this past weekend Fri January 30th-Sunday February 1st and won that on Priceline for $88 a night. Asked for an upgrade to a Fallsview Room and got it for $20 extra each night. They also threw in a $25 gift card for Milestones Restaurant in the hotel, $40 gift card for Terrapin Grille across the street at the Marriott Fallsview and a $40 Spa gift card for across the street at the Marriott fallsview, total of $105 in gift cards to be used within 72 hours. Not bad.
