  1. I was interested in Midtown East, Midtown West or Empire State Building areas. I started at 4.5 stars the day before and bid in increments from $120 to $158, with my free rebids. No luck. Today I added in Chelsea to those three areas as I bid and rebid at the 4 star level. I started at $90 and bid up to $132 before winning my bid. My previous bid was $125 and that was turned down, but $132 was accepted. I think the W will be what most people get if they include the MTE area in their 4 star bid because right now the hotel is offering on their website a free third night with the purchase of two nights.
  2. I bid from $45 to $52, adding areas, until I won at $52. Crowne Plaza Cincinnati-Blue Ash. I used the 5% off coupon Priceline is offering right now, for a deeper discount. Room total is $64 with fees and tax. It's going for $127, cheapest rate, taxes included, on the hotel's website. I'm happy with the deal.
  3. Started bid at $55 a night for 3 stars and got this room immediately on first bid.
  4. need to make a correction on the original post. this hotel is in the Union Square West district of San Francisco. Not SOMA.
  5. Started bidding at $87 for 2.5 stars in SOMA. Added three rebid zones, only two of which had 2.5 star hotels, but were acceptable areas for me (Union Square East and Union Square West) and won at $101. Interesting because two weeks ago I won six nights at this same hotel, from 11/10 - 11/16, for $95 a night. Couldn't get that exact rate again for this second room for a traveling companion who will be in San Francisco during part of my longer stay. This isn't much different than what the room goes for online. Was at $107 for the room online last I checked, two weeks ago, but didn't look today. My boss wanted me to book via PRICELINE and save a few bucks. (Had $7 a night free cash discount from priceline.)
  6. Just FYI - I found the Hotel Metropolis on their own website sells this room for $97 a night. And it's refundable. Not such a great deal after all. I'm bummed.
  7. I started a new thread on my hotel win. You can close this thread. Ended up with 2.5* room for $95 at Hotel Majestic for my 11/10 - 11/6 stay.
  8. Thanks, Aaron. The hotel is $152 a night for the nights of my stay on regular hotel booking websites. I'm thrilled with $95 a night. The area is a tad shady (edge of Tenderloin), but all tripadvisor reviewers said their worry about that was for naught once they arrived. And the hotel itself is trendy and clean and comfy and quite nice. And a block from the Mission Street cable car stop and very close to the Powell St. BART station as well. And just five blocks from the Moscone Center where I will be attending a three-day conference.
  9. I have been bidding for five days trying to secure a 3.5* or 4* room in Napa for the weekend of Nov. 16-18. With my losing bids I started bidding each day around $80, then $90, then $100, finally maxing out at $132 with rebid zones. Today I started at $120, bid 130,140, 145 and then 150, with one rebid zone left. $155 was going to be my max because I found that I could book the 3* Best Western Premier Ivy myself for $152 a night plus tax. So I bid with a min star level of 3.5 and was upgraded to a 4* level with the Marriott Napa Valley at $150 a night. The room is going for $259 a night right now on all other hotel booking websites, so I'm very happy with the deal.
  10. Won Hotel Metropolis for six nights, 11/10-11/16, for $95 a night. A 2.5* hotel. This six-night stay includes three nights during a 30,000-person convention at the nearby Moscone Center. Spent five days bidding for a room in either SOMA, Union Square West or Union Square East. Hotel cap price was $105. Started with 4*, quickly moved to 3.5*, minimum bids of $80, max of $105. Finally went to 2.5* today after carefully reviewing list of possible hotels in this category. Started at $90 for SOMA and was turned down, then upped it to $95 for SOMA and added Union Square East since that was another acceptable area for me. Won the bid at $95, for hotel in SOMA district.
  11. I'm heading to Napa, Calif. for two nights, 11/16 and 11/17, It seems like there are very few hotels that offer priceline bid for hotel rates in napa and upper napa. (those are the only two areas I am interested in.) I bid $70 for Upper Napa, a 2.5* room, which is the best they offer. I was turned down. 24 hours later I tried again, but this time focused on Napa itself, the city, not the area. I opted for a 3.5* and bid from $75 to $108 using all rebid zones. I was turned down. 24 hours later I tried again, for Napa the city, and tried for a 4* room. I started at $100 and went to $128 and was turned down. This is a personal trip so I can pay whatever it costs. But I would like a 3.5* room or better. I"m simply trying to find out what that will cost in Napa so I can choose my star level accordingly. My trip is after the harvest, so it's a bit of the off season, the week before Thanksgiving. I have priced individual rooms at the rate advertised on their sites and at the quality of hotel I want, they are $140 for a 3* room and $175 - $240 for a 4 star room at a boutique hotel.
  12. thanks for all the info! the actual personal days are 11/10 thru 11/13 and the business days are 11/14 thru 11/16. so three nights personal followed by three nights business. we're then heading to napa for two nights, 11/16 and 11/17, and I've had just as much trouble getting something there. seems like there are very few hotels that offer priceline bid for hotel rates in napa and upper napa. (those are the only two areas I am interested in.)
  13. I'm booking a room for a trip to San Francisco. Dates are 11/10 - 11/16. I want the same hotel for the entire six-night stay. It's a partial business trip, so the cost is limited to what my boss will pay. He'd be happiest if I spent $100 or less a night for a room. I do not know if this is possible. What is the star category I could expect to get for $100 max a night? I am attending a huge convention at the Moscone Center, with 30,000 other people in town, so it will be a high demand time for part of my stay. I would prefer to stay as close to the convention center as possible in order to keep transportation costs down. So my main choices are the SOMA districts, with Union Square East and Union Square West my second and third choices. I bid yesterday, and lost, used the PRICELINE link here. I started at $80 a night for 4* and rebid up to $94 using rebid zones, then added in 3.5* and added in the two remaining rebid zones I hadn't used yet, starting at $75 and stopping at $83. I rebid today from $85 to $105 using rebid zones for 3.5* and was still turned down. I don't want a terrible quality hotel. Anything under 3.5* worries me as far as quality goes. What could I expect to pay for a 3.5 *? Are the 3* hotels okay quality wise? I used to travel to this city a lot, but haven't been there in 10 years, so my knowledge of the areas is rusty. What other zones should I consider? I want to enjoy my surroundings as well as have easy access to the Moscone Center. I used to play it safe and always stay in Union Square East at the Kimpton Hotels there, but those are clearly out of my price zone nowadays.
  14. There is a 3.5* hotel on hotwire for $74 a night, regularly $160 on other sites. it is in the Civic Center South - Hayes Valley area of San Francisco here are the listed amenities: Smoke Free Rooms, Fitness Center, Restaurant(s), Business Center, High-Speed Internet Access it has 3.5 rating out of 5 on tripadvisor and a 3.0 overall satisfaction rating on hotwire.
  15. Booked this hotel. Started at $35 and worked my way up. Bid $35, then $40, then $43, then $46, then jumped to $55 and bid was accepted.
  16. Thanks. How would you suggest doing the rebid zones if I opt for a minimum star level of 3, instead? Thanks again.
  17. sorry, I meant the nights of 4/29 and 4/30, leaving on 5/1. so two nights in a row for two rooms. I'm looking for the least expensive room at a minimum star rating of 2.5. Thanks so much!
  18. I'm looking to book two hotel rooms in Nashville, in the downtown area, for 4/29 and 5/1, for two nights. I don't want to pay more than $55 a night. I started bidding at $35 for a four star hotel and added in other star levels until I reached 2.5 stars. I then stopped bidding. What approach should I use to book this hotel? I'm going for a convention so I need to stay close to the convention area downtown and I can't risk booking farther from that area so I want to make sure, if I choose rebid zones, that they don't have the star level I might use as a rebid option. Thanks!
  19. Booked this hotel. Bid $80 for first bid for two rooms for three nights. The bid was accepted.
  20. Can you ID a hotel for me? For Ft. Lauderdale Beach, Hotwire has a 4* hotel listed for $91 a night for my stay, 6/1-6/6. The amenities are: Resort Near Beach Smoke Free Rooms Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) Business Center Laundry Facilities (self-service) High-Speed Internet Access Tennis Nearby Children's Activity Program Thanks!
  21. I am looking for a room from 6/1 until 6/6 in a Ft. Lauderdale Beach Hotel. My budget cap is $100 a night. What star rating will I be limited to? I would like just a 4* but aware that I might need to drop to 3*. Please advise me on the proper bidding technique for this particular trip. Thanks!
