  1. also, not sure that it matters for "name your price" deals, but here's the amenities list from the confirmation page: Pet Friendly Spa Non-Smoking Gym Restaurant Handicap Accessible Business Center
  2. I used the PRICELINE quick quote tool at the top of this website. I tried to add a screenshot of my bidding history spreadsheet, but it wouldn't allow it. I've found that setting up a spreadsheet helps keep organized when bidding, allowing me to see which areas I want, which ones I don't want, and which areas can be safely added to rebids without risk of getting an unwanted hotel/area (ie, the ones with a max hotel rating lower than the minimum I'm bidding for). Regarding my accepted bid, I was primarily looking at the White House and Georgetown areas. I knew the Sofitel was being offered at $141-$150 as a Hotwire secret rate and PRICELINE EXPRESS rate, so I knew I didn't want to go above $130 for that bid. However, i was willing to go a bit above for a chance to get the Park Hyatt in Georgetown, and I went to $150 on 5* bids yesterday... all fails. I kept the Downtown area out of my bid b/c I didn't want the Loews Madison or Donovan, both of which rank well below the Sofitel, Willard, & Park Hyatt in reviews that I've seen. I also kept Dupont Circle out because I didn't want The Fairfax at that price, but I might've been interested in the Palomar or one of the other 4* hotels in that area for under $90 if I couldn't get at good enough deal on one of the 4.5*+ hotels. Anyway, I'm happy with the win, and this rate is far better than the $270 that we paid to stay at the Sofitel on our wedding night back in 2008.
  3. Hi, I'm trying to book the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Golf Resort/Spa/Marina for this Fri-Sun (3/14-16), and I'm seeing the following on Hotwire for $163 per night: Free ParkingFree InternetResortPet friendlyOceanfront hotelIndoor pool(s)Fitness CenterPool(s)Restaurant(s)Bidding Helper - FULL AMENITIES: Free Parking, Free Internet, Resort, Pet friendly, Oceanfront hotel, Indoor pool(s), Fitness Center, Pool(s), Restaurant(s), Business Center, Self service laundry, Internet access, Golf Nearby, Tennis Nearby, Spa Services, Accessible for the blind, Accessible for the deaf, In-room accessibility, Accessible bathroom, Handicapped parking, Roll-in shower I'm fairly certain the Hyatt has all of those amenities. Also, the listing shows $249 as the regular (struck-through) price, and the Hotwire standard rate listing shows the Hyatt at $249. Pretty sure it's the only 4* hotel/resort in the area. Is it safe to assume this secret rate option is the Hyatt that I'm looking for? I can book through Hyatt for $199 with a promo code (or similarly valued packages with food/resort credits), so if it's the secret rate is the Hyatt then one thing I'd wonder is whether the booking method (Hotwire vs Hyatt) or price paid ($159 vs $199) could impact my ability to get a room upgrade. Since I get the impression this hotel is not packed this time of year, I'm assuming at least an upgrade to water view would be possible for them... but does anyone know whether hotels use booking info in deciding whether to give upgrades? If they do, then i may consider paying the extra $40 to increase my chances... or maybe just tell them it's an anniversary weekend for my wife & I and hope they're extra nice. thanks for your help.
  4. Check-In Sunday, July 21, 2013 Check-Out Monday, July 22, 2013 Omni Boston Parker House 60 School Street Boston, MA 02108 Summary of Charges Room Cost (avg. per room, per night): $75.00 (USD) Number of Rooms: 2 Number of Guests Per Room: 2 Number of Nights: 1 Room Subtotal: $150.00 (USD) Taxes and Fees: $30.58 (USD) Priceline Hotel Coupon: -$7.50 (USD) Total Charged to Card: $173.08 (USD) Headed to the Sox-Yankees game Sunday night, and I was basically looking for a 4+ star hotel in either Boston Common - Theatre District (BCTD), Copley Square - Back Bay (CSBB), or Quincy Market - Financial District (QMFD), but if i didn't get anything under $80 there, I would've expanded my 4-star search to a couple other regions before dropping down to 3.5 star and hoping to get something cheaper. For my "free regions," i was using North Cambridge - Arlington (NCA), Medford - Somerville (MS), & South Boston (SB)... but i think there were a few more available if i needed them. Here's my bidding sequence: BCTD - $55 BCTD, MS - $60 BCTD, SB - $65 CSBB - $60 CSBB, MS - $65 QMFD - $65 QMFD, BCTD - $70 CSBB, SB - $70 BCTD, NCA - $75 (win!)
  5. well i decided to try 4* Arlington for $45 one more time on PL before moving on to the downtown zones... and it accepted for the Hyatt Arlington. i don't see an option for changing the title of this post to reflect the winning bid. let me know how if that's possible, or if you'd like me to use the "post hotel win" button. again, i used the links and "quickquote" boxes at the top for my searches & bidding. thanks for your help.
  6. this trip was back in '09, but the info on this site helped with my bidding, so i should at least post the result now that i'm thinking about it. i don't remember what the bidding history was on this one.
  7. this trip was back in '08, but the info on this site helped with my bidding, so i should at least post the result now that i'm thinking about it. i don't remember what the bidding history was on this one, but i remember that it was the only 4* in the zone at the time, so i knew which hotel i was going to get. The hotel itself ended up being really nice, especially the outdoor pool area.
  8. sorry, this is going from an initial question about Priceline to heavy on Hotwire... but the listing on Hotwire changed again. up to $84, and dropped the internet from the amenities. so here's the updated specs: 4* Dupont Cirle - National Zoo area Fitness Center, Restaurant, Business Center $84 for 2/3/2012 and to change my thoughts back again: based on the HW hotel list, i think the only exact matches are the Dupont Hotel & St. Gregory Hotel, but could it also potentially be one of the following: Hilton Washington & Towers, Hotel Palomar, or even Westin City Center? i think i'd be very happy with any of those 5 except for Hilton Washington & Towers (lower ratings & a bit further north than we'd like) or Westin City Center (low ratings). thoughts? & thanks again.
  9. (edited) also, regarding a HW price i'm seeing... i'm not sure if i should start a new thread on the HW forum (i think i read somewhere that you'd prefer everything for the same trip to be in one thread), so please let me know if i should. it's as follows: 4* Dupont Cirle - National Zoo area Fitness Center, Restaurant, Business Center, High-speed internet (added) $83 for 2/3/2012 based on the HW hotel list, i think the only exact match is St. Gregory Hotel, but could it also potentially be one of the following: Dupont Hotel, Hilton Washington & Towers, or Hotel Palomar? based on the HW hotel list, the only exact matches are the Dupont Hotel, Hilton Washington & Towers, Hotel Palomar, & Westin City Center... could possibly be St. Gregory? i think i'd be very happy with any of those 4 except for Hilton Washington & Towers (lower ratings & a bit further north than we'd like). probably be happy with any of those except Hilton Washington & Towers (lower ratings & a bit further north than we'd like) or Westin City Center (low ratings). thoughts?
  10. honestly i thought i had, but it might've been under an old email address because i wasn't able to sign in or use the "forgot password" option with my vague memory of what that address might've been. if not, i apologize. i've found some information on a couple past trips through priceline, so i'll try to piece it together and at least post the hotels, dates, & prices from the winning bids. they were back in '08 & '09 though, so i'm not sure that'll be helpful information at this point. it's technically discretionary (we live about an hour west of DC and just want to get some time to ourselves for a night, so we're planning to drop the baby off with the grandparents who live just east of DC, and spend Friday & Saturday in DC). however, we don't need a rock bottom price to make it happen... though we would like to obviously. if i'm going to end up paying closer to $71 for Arlington, i think i'd rather see if i can get one of the top (trip-advisor) rated 4* hotels in one of those optional zones (Palomar DC, St. Gregory's, etc) for around $80-90... or even something like the 3.5* Madera for a bit less. we're also considering whether to drive in (in which case the huge DC parking cost would be a consideration) or take the metro for the entire trip. sorry for the rambling. to answer your question, i guess i'd say we probably don't want to go over about $90-95 max, but the ranges of what i'd be willing to pay depend on location & likelihood of getting a well reviewed hotel. i used the bidding helper for all my attempts last night... i'm assuming that helps the same as the links? just in case, i did click on both the PL & HOTWIRE links this morning. thanks again.
  11. first, let me say that this site has been a great help a few times in the past few years, so thank you for all the advice and data. I'm just wondering if anyone might have an idea of why my offers aren't being accepted for my stay this weekend (friday, 2/3). using the bidding helper, i started at $39 with 4* and Arlington only, and i've just increased $1 at a time with Arlington along with various zones that either don't have a 4* hotel or, if they have 4*, i wouldn't mind being in. those other acceptable zones are Conv Ctr, Dupont, Gtown/FB, Dupont, & White House, but based on winning bid history here, i was pretty much expecting the Hyatt Arlington to accept before anything else. However, i was expecting that to hit at around $45, or at most by $50... but i just submitted at $53 & received my first counter offer for $71. so the question is, am i too close to the date of my stay to expect a deal around $45-50? maybe friday isn't a good night for getting a low price? i thought weekend rates were normally better than weekday rates in the DC area. do their acceptance ranges vary based on time of day? i don't want to just keep going up right now if there's a chance i could get a deal around $45-50 later today or tomorrow. any help would be appreciated.
