We checked in late and left early without using any hotel services, so clearly it was a mistake. I called Hyatt and it turns out that $48.10 is the room rate (including tax) that Hotwire pays them and which they charged me by mistake.

This bidding was done with the $50 Twitter bonus cash that I still had in my email, so I suppose the winning bid was somewhere around $78. And just for information - we may be traveling with our 2-month old and I emailed Marriott to see what the hotel policy is regarding children. Their reply: "The maximum occupancy allowed in the Renaissance Brussels Hotel's guest rooms is two persons, however, upon speaking with the hotel's front desk, we were able to learn that an infant would be allowed in the room as well." It makes sense, but you never know.
