  1. Since we both work from home (and it's summer anyway), the traffic's fine. :) Now if you want to talk about the unrelenting heat, that's a whole different story. :)
  2. Woke up to the news this morning discussing Priceline travel bidding and was very please to see they were promoting Betterbidding.com. Kurt's report can be found on the ktla.com, go to the morning news link and then look for Kurt the Cyberguy's report. I know it's a Los Angeles television station, but with satellite and cable, they seem to pull an audience in from around the world.
  3. Hotel address is Amerisuites Orlando Airport West 5435 Forbes Place, Orlando, FL 32812.
  4. Since there are two stays, technically I received *both*. Amerisuites Orlando Airport is 7500 Augusta National Drive, Orlando, FL 32822. It is like 1/4 mile from the airport.
  5. This will be the return jag the night before our flight home. Knew $38 was accepted for the week before for our arrival, so tried $37 this time on the first bid. No dice, so upped it to $38 and added Sand Lake zone and hit it. Still Amerisuites, but the other one in the area. Apparently they have two within 2 miles of the airport. $38 plus $12.05 in taxes for $50.05 total. Post: bid history (if first bidding attempt was rejected), taxes paid from the Priceline accepted bid page, date hotel was booked if different than posting date, any other pertinent info
  6. Other areas in Orlando seem to accept $36, but with a late evening arrival, I wanted to be near the airport for a quick drive to the hotel. Tried this morning, refused at $36, added Sand Lake Corporate Park zone and went to $38. Accepted. Subtotal $38, taxes $12.05, total charges $50.05 We'll be on our way the next morning so my son can participate in the USBC Jr Gold National Bowling Championships in Fort Lauderdale. Thrilled to get Amerisuites at this price--I love the chain.
  7. That's so very odd for Marriott not to honor it. Months ago, we heard about a deal for $159 rooms in Corpus Christi's Quality Inn going for $15.95. I waited 5 days before I booked the deal, but when it was still there nearly a week later, I booked it. Called and confirmed that they would honor it, and they said absolutely. My husband went to Corpus last week, and his room opened onto the beach as promised. For that price, had they offered him a room that overlooked the trash cans, I would have understood. But he received the suite from the website. Others receiving the same offer have reported similarly. Of course, none of us booked 10 rooms, but Choice hotels honored their glitch.
  8. Tried for about 10 days to find anything reasonable for a bowling tournament in Corpus Christi. Started a Pricelining a week ago for an SUV for $30 a day, tried Premium, Luxury, Full-Size to no avail. Got the notice we could retry, and still no dice on the SUV. My husband and his teammate will have to deal with a full size. Cheapest prices on Orbitz and individual sites were virtually double--at $150+ with airport fees.
  9. $17 bid, $5.43 taxes, $22.43 Best deals on Orbitz or Hotwire pushed it to over $30 with taxes. Rented for a one-day merger meeting in Sacramento.
  10. Son and Husband going to a state youth sport convention in San Diego to pick up a scholarship. Orbitz wanted nearly double. Here's hoping for a Mustang :)
  11. We rented a car from BUR to LAS last year for $50 from National and then LAS to BUR for $70. Coming home, they upgraded us from a full size to a mini-van from Alamo. We'd gotten such a great deal on our flight out of LAS, that we opted to rent the cars rather than drive and park our car for a week. Our deals were only 1 day each, but you might want to try National/Alamo. It seems odd that the costs are so different, as there are a LOT of Europeans that fly into LA and drive to Vegas or fly into Vegas and drive through Death Valley on their way to LA. There are always cars waiting to go back the other way.
  12. Time to pluck my son out of the mountains, and still don't want to use my car. Hotwire: Full-size, $20.95, with taxes, $25.13. Got a Toyota Camry. The agent offered Never Lost for $9.95 and we said no thanks. When she saw our 4 year old, she offered us free Sirius, promising a "Disney" channel. So at least one of us won't be bored on the drive up and back :) It's not as great a deal as I got last week, but for a one-day rental on a holiday weekend, I'll take it.
  13. Wanted someone else's car to drive my son to summer camp in the mountains. Hotwire: Full size, $16.95 with taxes and fees $20.13 The guy at the counter commented that he couldn't believe the deal we got. He ended up throwing in the Never Lost ($9.95) at no charge. For an older child, I think that's better than the DVD player :) MochaBowler
