  1. Part two of three, for our HI car reservations. Won a convertible with Hertz at $33/day for seven days over (next) holiday week . Accessed PL with the SavingsBarn.com link, tried unsuccessfully for weekly Convertible deals like the $20 & $25/day wins in OGG and LIH recently reported in this forum. Re-tried at $25/day 3days later and was counter-offered one for $33/nt but I tried re-bidding for a shorter period (no luck). Ah- I had forgotten the public holiday, Memorial day! No wonder it is either sold out or expensive! Last night I repeated the process and took the $33 counter-offer, when offered. Convertible (unlimited mileage) Lihue Airport Hertz Corporation Pick-Up: Tuesday, May 22 Drop-Off: May 29, 2007 Your Offer Price: $33.00 Total Rental Days: 7 Subtotal: $231.00 Taxes & Fees: $66.60 Total Charges: $297.60 As a frame of reference, I had reserved a $139 compact from Budget for a total of $189. Any comment on the effect of my quite last-minute timing of bidding and the relatively high cost relative to recent stories of $25/day wins? There is a Polynesian Festival this week which may also sell out rental companies. I'm Happy! Will I be able to add my Hertz #1 Gold number to the Rez, if I phone - and try to get the car quarantined so that it is there when we arrive around 9PM?
  2. Accessed PL with the SavingsBarn.com link, tried unsuccessfully for Midsize @ $15 and SUV @ $25 per day. Full-Size(unlimited mileage) Kona Arpt National Car Rental Pick-Up: Thursday, May 17 Drop-Off: Tuesday, May 22 Your Offer Price: $21.00 Total Rental Days: 6 (5d 9hrs) Subtotal: $126.00 Taxes & Fees: $42.81 Total Charges: $168.81 I was after a SUV but tried this next, thinking it would not be enough. National - hmmm, will be interesting :)
  3. Just to bump this into 2007... after getting a PL acceptance for a HNL hotel (Hawaii Prince), PL offers car rentals. Mid & Std from $17, $18 per day. Is this any better than standard shoulder season midweek daily rates? I'll check the appropriate BB page just in case there are recent reports. :)
  4. :) Accepted @ $140/night for my two nights (done exactly per the bidding advice above & SB link) ... Sweet success! thereuare, I followed your bidding advice to the letter, and have succeeded with the currently-reported Prince price! I used the SB link, bid per your tips with re-bids up to $140, when I was rewarded with the acceptance: Thank you thereuare, and for the great info on Hawaii generally by yourself, LoneStar and others. I am very much better off, knowing about the Ent. Book rates for the Hilton Kauai Beach, the Waimea Plantation Cottages and other options. Based on some great reviews of the excellent service at the Hawaii Prince, I hope that we have the option to upgrade to a higher floor than the cheapest rooms, or at least to opt up to include breakfasts. Hopefully we will have better luck than my last PL booking (September 12, 2005 New Orleans Marriott), which was underwater for obvious reasons. :)
  5. Thank you, ThereUAre, I'm prepared to go up to $150, and it is for two nights 29-30 MAy, thank you!
  6. Hi, Based on recent wins for the Hawaii Prince at the Waikiki Marina, what would you recommend as a bidding strategy? I believe this hotel offers non-opaque rooms from $169 (maybe that's just the rate for kaamaina). Based on the good reviews, I'd like to try for the Hawaii Prince on Priceline, but not accidentally bid on the Ilikai (presuming though that they are different star ratings). Are there better options? The Marina area suits us and we'd ideally like the Prince. Thanks in advance. [Edit to add: I'll have read what is already here fom other advice; Is the Reef still a risk (unwanted 'upgrade') for **** Marina bidding? Want to be in the Prince if it's not too risky in bidding..]
  7. For mid-Sept., can you recommend from your experience a flight and hiking tour of the grand canyon? I've read that S. Rim is preferable to W. Rim. Have booked w. GCTC for a fixed wing tour but we're on a honeymoon from Oz and should probably invest more for a better tour. Any agent/buying links from your site is also appreciated, and thank you ffor such a great PL/HW resource. Cheers.
  8. Hi I found I could book 4* (W Hotel, Hilton) after this weekend for around $130-147. Before using Priceline and this forum, I had earlier found the Bedford Hotel, via zuji.com, but it is 3* at best and $145/night for the late August-early September dates. For NYC, look at some recent posts for 4* in the midtown areas from $130, in case you can get one of these. On Hotwire (via a savingsbarn.com link) I first booked W 4* for $147 on Sept 2-4. For Sept 4-6, I used Priceline, to book the NYC Hilton for $130. After no success looking to buy a 5* at up to $220 on these dates, I bid up to $128 for 4* and won at $130, like the other recent bidders. Look at the Hotwire forums here in case it helps you with what is available and pricing. Share your stories of what you find!
  9. Amenities: Restaurant(s) Pool(s) Fitness Center High-Speed Internet Access Business Center Laundry Facilities (self-service) FYI: it is possible to check confirmations at the parkplaza website, but not to make any modifications (will need to phone to make changes). "This reservation has been modified with the hotel directly. It can no longer be modified through this website. Please contact the hotel directly".
  10. Bid MTE from $120 unsuccessfully. I added MTW zone after exhausting the lower zones, and extended to $128 without success. However at $130 I booked the NY Hilton for Sept 4-6, same price as others recently on this forum (thru your savingbarn non-link). FYI: Hilton website does not confirm priceline bookings, and gives a message to call or e-mail to confirm. I called my local Sydney number and confirmed. The clerk could not enter my HHonors number against the reservation, due to it being a priceline booking. The operator confirmed my reservation and gratuitously added that I booked it at a great price! :) Booking was $260 + $52.84 charges & taxes: $312.84 total
  11. Hotwire has these for Sept 4-6: ** for Sept 4-6 should I bid on Priceline up to these prices (or up to how much), or book w. Hotwire if we can guess #1 & #2? ** I've foun 1. MTC 4.5* Customer Favorite $219 (is this Hilton midtown or some other?): Restaurant(s), Fitness Center, Spa Services, High-Speed Internet Access, Business Center. 3 great reviews (rated 5s!) 2. MTE 4* Customer Favorite $164 (is this Sheraton, as suggested earlier?) Restaurant(s), Fitness Center, Business Center. Restaurant(s), Fitness Center, Business Center. 3 v.good reviews re location, lobby, service etc (5s & 4s). 3. W Hotel (we are booked Sept 2-4): MTE 4* Best Value $154 Boutique Hotel, Fitness Center, Spa Services, High-Speed Internet Access, Business Center 4. Beekman Tower currently $201, or $240 w. taxes. Cheers
  12. Thank you thereuare, As this is a honeymoon, can you or anyone reading recommend somewhere reasonable value for our final 22 days in NYC? Staying Aug30-Sept 2 at Bedford Hotel then Sept 2-4 W Hotel, via your Hotwire savingsbarn link. For Sept 4-6 is Beekman Tower competitive, in terms of location, service etc? I guess I'm looking for something to top off the experience, preferably top of the line and under $190. Cheers!
  13. 3* DTN Sept 11-13 Best Value $52: Park Plaza 11-13 Sept 05, $126.95 total. 1500 Canal St. Aston charges an additional $8/pp/night service fee, according to your link to the $89 price, so are all hotels charging extras, as they do in budget Las Vegas hotels?
  14. After following advice to bid and get free re-bids, I unsuccessfully tried NYC hotels. Today, after seeing 3.5* hotwire pricing starting at $81 for NO LA FQ, I tried $70 then $75 using the 2* area and won. (M website price $139) However this hotel (Marriott New Orleans) is now sold out from Sept. 11-16. I just read of the big hotels having a bigger tax. I'd also appreciate any 3-4* recommendations for great values on PL or HW in the 70-90 range. Used Savingsbarn to start the purchase, after your earlier advice for NYC. Thank you!
  15. Re dates: Booked the first two nights 2-4 Sept; still looking at Hotwire & Priceline for the final 2 days in NYC - hoping to get something *really* good for my wife-to-be for 4-6 Sept before we head north. See my question about the Hilton v. 4* up to $200 in the Hotwire forum - trying to see what is possible for a 4* up to $200, or how low to get a good 3.5-4* as an alternative to extending at the W. I've tried without success on Priceline, so will look at improving the way I bid (and make bids higher than $120-130 which were rejected for a 5* & sometimes 4*) Thank you for such a responsive and useful forum, and I'll use the link.
  16. Sorry; Best Value! $164 per room per night 4* Midtown Central (Midtown) Customer Favorite! Selected amenities include: Restaurant(s), Fitness Center, Business Center

  18. Sorry, that was my first time here. 4* MTE, Best Value!; $147 for Sept 2-4; $154 for Sept4-6. Selected amenities include: Boutique Hotel, Fitness Center, Spa Services, High-Speed Internet Access, Business Center. (Recent posts indicated this is W Hotel. Indicated by hotwire as a 4* but as 3.5* in Travelocity, Expedia etc). - I booked and the posts were correct for W Hotel. Can you direct me on where to identify the following hotel? Listed today for Sept 4-6: 4* MTC $164/night. Customer Favorite! Best Value! Selected amenities include: Restaurant(s), Fitness Center, Business Center. Thank you from another Aussie on a honeymoon.
