  1. Thanks again! The Big House has always been on my bucket list - never thought I'd see the Huskers play there, so this is extra special. Let's hope I get to see a full four quarters of this game and no weather delays.
  2. Had some time on my side and started at $65 to stay downtown at 3.5 or 4* hotel. Slowly (using free bid zones) and betterbidding PRICELINE link, worked my way up to $80 with no luck. I was losing patience, so increased bid from $80 to $90 and got the Greektown Hotel and Casino. Best rate online I could find was $129.00. I'm very please with hotel & location. PS - I'm travelling up to Ann Arbor to see my Huskers take on your Wolverines. We decided to spend an extra night in Detroit. Thanks for all you help. Go Big Red. :)
  3. Changed plans to stay in downtown detroit. Please see new post.
  4. Oops - sorry about that. No more than $70/nt. If I can't do that, I'll stay somewhere less expensive.
  5. I would like the least expensive 3.5* or better. I wouldn't want to pay more for a 4 *, unless you talk me into something spectacular. :) Thanks.
  6. I've never stayed in Detroit and I would appreciate help on getting one room - must be near the airport at 3.5 or 4 * from 11/19 to 11/20. If I can't get a good deal on a nice room, I'll just buy one off the rack so I can cancel if my plans change. Thanks everyone for your help.
  7. Used the PRICELINE link. Thanks for the help. As always I really appreciate the board. Hilton Chicago - 2 Rooms - Millennium Park, Loop & Grant Park Area 6/19 - 6/21/2009 After conferring w/ the family, we didn't care whether we were in the North Michigan Ave area or the Loop area. So, it seemed rates were a bit lower for the loop area and we began bidding there. $62 - Millenium Loop - denied - offered to get room by increasing bid by $17 and from my history on this board, declined. added NMA area $65 - denied added Niles - Skokie - Evanston $68 - accepted Not the perfect location, but the great rate more than makes up for it. Thanks again.
  8. We're discussing with family whether we want to share an apt or get two separate rooms. I'll report back in the next few days. Thanks for all of your help.
  9. AaronJB - Thank you. The apartments sound great, I just can't find them via Orbitz. I've searched by name and they don't come up. Am I missing something very simple. Thanks.
  10. My maximum bid for two rooms is $90.00 per room per night. What I want to do is keep my total cost for both nights after fees at about $230 per room or $460 total for both rooms. Thanks for your help.
  11. Got a great rate at the Swissotel for about $230.00 total for the weekend after fees (it's refundable). We now need another hotel for family and the rate is gone. We need to stay in the NMA - River North area due to a wedding. What sort of 4* deal do you think we can expect per night if we get two rooms. If we can't beat our current deal, we'll just get one room for the other family members via PRICELINE. Thanks for any help.
  12. Thanks so much for the suggestions. After your email, I had a heart-to-heart with the employer and they decided to foot the expensive resort rates. We don't want to be driving 45 minutes each morning. I just booked my room straight through the Marriott. I really appreciate all of the help this board has given me over the years.
  13. Thanks thereuare! Is the 'possible' Embassy Suites in the Scottsdale zone? Thanks so much for your help! -andy
  14. I'm attending a conferenct at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge from Oct 19 - Oct 22. However, conference rates are $255/night plus a $25 resort fee. My phoenix geography is non-existent, so I'm asking for help. I'd like to reserve a hotel somewhere nearby and spend around $150/night. Does anyone know the exact area that would be on Priceline and if my priceline amount is reasonable. Ideally I would like to be within 5 miles or so and I would like a 3* or better hotel. Thanks so much.
  15. You are right. I didn't go up to $48. I did go up to $45 w/ the 2.5 star and no luck.
  16. I bid $34 yesterday and didn't win. Later tried low bids on some 2.5* & 3* options, but for this short stay, price & airport location was more important than star rating. Today, used Savings Barn & bid $37. I'm very happy with this rate. Thanks thereuare.
  17. Tried again w/ the 2.5* and still no luck. I won the bid when I dropped to 2*. See new thread. Thanks thereuare.
  18. Thank you. I will give it a shot & report back. When did priceline change to only a 24 hour wait? Any thoughts as to why?
  19. Hey thereuare - I decided for the cheap route (2.5*), and haven't won a bid yet. Interestingly, at $38 PL offered a 'free' rebid for $11 more, I declined then at $40, they offered a 'free' rebid for $12 more, I declined then at $43, they offered a 'free' rebid again for $12 more. I again declined I may have looked incorrectly, b/c I didn't find anymore free rebids. (i had already made one at $35, so perhaps I already exhausted them all) So, I thought I'd regroup, seek some wisdom and try again. Thanks for all your help.
  20. Thanks again thereuare. I think I'd rather go the cheap route w/ a 2.5*. Please send me that strategy. Thank you.
  21. Thanks thereuare. I was looking at some bids from August at the Holiday Inn - see below:: 3* Northern VA (Airport Dulles IAD) Holiday Inn $40 ... 8/18/06 - 8/20/06 So, maybe I was bottom feeding a bit at $35, but I wasn't sure where to start. I think I'd like to spend $60 max (including Priceline's fees). So a $50 max bid I guess. What do you think about that?
  22. I just need a hotel for one night near dulles airport. This morning I put a $35 bid for a 3* and was rejected. Added 2.5* for $35 & was also rejected. This seems pretty low for the star levels, but the board history seemed to suggest I was in the ballpark. I've never stayed in a priceline 2* and don't know if that is a dump or not. However, I suppose in this instance, price is more important than quality of the hotel. Thanks for your help.
  23. Embassy Suites Hotel Des Moines-On The River Pretty Happy about this 3*. Used the Savings Barn link then... Bid $51 - Rejected & PL countered with $64 Added a zone then Bid $56 - rejected Added a zone then Bid $60 - Accepted $75.08 after all taxes & such. Thanks Betterbidding.
  24. You are correct thereuare. This was in the Crown Center area.
