  1. If you're going from Philly to Washington, NY or Boston, I'd take the train, it's not much more & a lot more confortable. bon voyage
  2. Hello, I simply prefer to go for a 2* or a 2.5* I do have a slight preference for the South Clevand Airport zone. The selection of hotels seemed the best there. I'll just bid 2 or 3 dollars more for this zone. My $60 maximum was arrived at by looking at hotwire's comparable properties. thanks again Mark
  3. Answers to your questions What is/are the actual dates of your stay. If your dates are flexible that you only need one nite anytime in mid-September, what is the range of dates that is acceptable? my dates are flexible Possible dates are sept 14, 15, or 17 or 1 week later sept 21, 22 or 24 What is your maximum bid? I had mentioned that my max bid was $60 Are your plans for this trip firm? yes thanks for the prompt response
  4. hi I will be going to cleveland for 1 night in mid september. I would like a 2* or 2.5* hotel. My maximum bid would be $60. The folowing zones are ok. Cleveland Airport South (CLE) Cleveland Airport Vicinity Elyria
  5. Bid Too Early ? At 7:00 AM before driving to the hotel, I called the hotel to inquire about an early arrival (11 am). I was told that they only had 7 reservations for that upcoming night. During the night (3 am) I looked out at the parking to see no more than a dozen cars. Since the hotel has 60 rooms & my rate of $54 wasn't much lower than the hotels web site's internet rate of $64, it makes me think that I booked too early (2.5 months prior to the stay) to get a significant discount. Next time, I won't be in such a rush to book. regards & thanks better bidding
  6. I once stayed at the residence inn in grandville, nice hotel. Is it too far away ? bonne chance Mark

  12. No, you are very observant... I am planning on visiting my nephew & niece at Interlochen. Since I started this thread, I've learned that visiting the following weekend would be better. I am also considering bidding for july 30/31 (Sunday night) since single Saturday night stays can be harder to get. thanks
  13. MY unsuccessful bidding so far for july 29/30 through SavingsBarn.com 2* Cadillac $30 2.5* Traverse City $60 2* Traverse City $50 2* Cadillac $35 2.5* Traverse City $65 2* Traverse City $55 2* Cadillac $40 2.5* Traverse City $70 2* Traverse City $60 2* Cadillac $45 2.5* Traverse City $73 2* Traverse City $63 no counter bids offered
  14. Cadillac is cheaper because it is inland & Traverse city is on the water, on a bay of Lake Michigan. Traverse City has more summer tourism activities whereas Cadillac is popular in the winter for nearby skiing & snow mobiling. From priceline, the Traverse City Days Inn is $169 & the Cadillac Days Inn is S109 for my dates for example. regarding Savings Barn, just to be clear, once SB sends me to priceline, credit will be given even if I am making multiple bids during my priceline session ? regarding updates to this thread , did u want an update everytime I bid, or a summary once I purchase something ? thanks again
  15. Starting from Savings Barn savingsbarn.com i bid $60 for 2.5 star - followed by bid of $50 for 2 star not accepted & no counter offer I will continue bidding 3 questions How can I know that priceline is getting the bids thru savings barn ? I'd like to make sure that the appropriate credit is given... I am considering bidding for 2 * Cadillac MI as another alternative. How much cheaper should I make these bids than the 2 star traverse city bids? if it's 15-20 dollars cheaper I'd be happy with cadillac. Do u want me to update this thread every time I bid? or just a resume' once I get an winning bid or give up ... ? thanks in advance Mark
  16. thanks for the quick response $90 for 2 * $100 for 2.5 *
  17. From your hotel checker (Expedia section) Days Inn Traverse City Lowest avg rate $179.00 Quality Inn By The Bay Rate $134.96 Econo Lodge Traverse City Rate $121.45 no rates were available for the other hotels thanks & waiting for your advice
  18. hello date saturday night july 22-23 I will be bidding for 2.5 * & if rejected then for 2* hotels in traverse city. since i have plenty of time, where do u suggest i start bidding for each * level ? & what is your best guestimate of what i will end up paying ? thanks mark
  19. If you like Pirate's suggestion of flying out of Toronto. Besides the bus, there is also the train to Toronto which is much more confortable. Either the Amtrak train via Port huron/Sarnia or the via Rail from Windsor. Both arrive in downtown Toronto. Across the street from the station is the York Hotel that has a shuttle bus to the airport for a small fee. I have taken the train to Toronto several times to catch flights to Buenos Aires & Sao Paulo. bon voyage
  20. Name your price is not appearing when I go to priceline & enter dtw yqb. I guess not enough airlines fly there, even though continental, northwest & united all do this route. thanks
  21. Let's say that I'd like to beat the total of $468 from via rail in order to use priceline. Naturally if you think it's even possible to spend less, I'd start bidding even lower. I have flexibility or +/- 1 day on the departure & return dates & choice of the departure airport, so I imagine I can come with 10 bidding opportunities. I know that this is not the proper thread, & wasn't going to ask about hotels until I had secured my transportation. But my hotel requirement is that it be in the old quarter. # of stars don't matter. Any way to guarantee this thru pl or hotwire ? Thanks for your great & prompt service
  22. flight date March 20 return March 25 airfare checker for DTW - YQB Detroit to Quebec City returns: Orbitz 1 stop $907 total $1,045 2+ stops $599 total $719 Travelocity"]Travelocity 1007 Expedia 1 stop from $1052 2+stops from $686 would also consider flying from Windsor or Flint Via Canadian Rail is $468 from windsor to quebec please advice where to start bidding from thanks
  23. Before I knew about this board, I flew Detroit - Buenos Aires via priceline in Jan 2004. Your schedule is during shoulder season, so it should be a little less. If I recall correctly, the best airfares (including taxes) I could find were high 800s, hotwire was about 850 & my priceline bid was accepted for 605 for a total of 694 including taxes. If you can't find a good priceline fare, check with the consolidators. Have a nice & safe trip
  24. I checked hotwire & they are coming back with $485. I would first try priceline & bid below $300 good luck
  25. Any thought been given to putting the bidding histories & reviews on a database that could be queried rather than doing a search through the forums. I know that TOBB was offered this service by computer savy users on several occasions but it was turned down. thanks in advance
