  1. Bit of an update... We were initially wanting to stay in NY from Dec 30 - Jan 6 but this has now been changed to us arriving on Dec 28. We would like to split our stay from Dec 28 to Jan 1. Then another five nights from Jan 3 to 8. For the first part of our stay, I have found that Brooklyn has the best rates with Aloft and the Sheraton around $1100 for four nights ($275/night inc tax). Out of these, the Sheraton is the only one we can get by bidding. Do you think it would be possible to get it for around $180 on Priceline? Thanks again :)
  2. Fitness Center, Business Center, High Speed Internet I have checked the prices for the Sheraton and it is about $400/night for the first two nights but this still works out cheaper than booking the entire stay directly at pretty much any other decent hotel or booking the whole stay at a hotel I'd be happy with on Hotwire. I would try Priceline beforehand though. Can you narrow it down to which hotel (or two) you think it's likely to be?
  3. There is a 4* Downtown-Soho hotel on Hotwire for $97/night from Jan 1 - 6. I could book this and then book the first 2 nights directly through the hotel. Any idea which hotel this is - I think you guessed Sheraton Tribeca in another thread? Thanks
  4. Well it seems that 200+tax ($230 all up?) will be the minimum we can get away with for booking something through normal channels. That should improve our chances, right? We can't try for a few weeks though.
  5. If I was staying for longer, I'd consider splitting but not for 1 week. I have found the Salisbury for $190/night + tax (average rate) which is my back up and I will book it in a month or two if I don't get anywhere on Priceline. The cheapest rate on Hotwire for my whole stay is $226/night + tax for 4 stars. Do you think it'd be possible for me to get it on Priceline for $200/night (inc tax)? If not, what's the lowest you think I could get a 3-3.5* star for? Thanks :)
  6. I wouldn't want to split a one week stay but I'm not fussed if the hotel isn't in Times Square or anywhere like that. Pretty happy with most NYC Priceline zones if I can get that price.. Thoughts?
  7. Well I didn't discuss any specific dates in the last thread so this is juat a follow on from that. With the LA thread, I said that I would be trying again soon which I am yet to do. How much would I be looking at on Priceline for the above dates and star level? Thanks
  8. Hello, I would like to book a hotel on Priceline for December 30 - Jan 6. Our budget for the entire stay is $1000 (tax inclusive) or about $120/night before tax. I haven't tried bidding yet but do you think we'd be able to get a 4* hotel for this price or we'll have to go for a 3 or 3.5*? Thanks
  9. Thanks for your reply. Could the prices be due to Thanksgiving? I'll probably try again in a few weeks.
  10. Hello, I am using Priceline and would like to book for November 24 to 29. Ideally, I would like to stay in Beverly Hills or Downtown LA (4 stars). I have tried up to $100/night without luck. Thoughts?
  11. Hello, Having returned from the US just over a week ago, I am eager to head back as I really enjoyed our stay in New York. I am thinking about returning in July next year. When should I start trying to bid on \Priceline? Is December or January too early? Thanks :)
  12. It is actually Columbus Day on the 10th. That explains the high rates. :)
  13. I just got the Wynn on Priceline for $160 for Oct 12 - 14. I tried to extend it but they were wanting $530 a night for the first two nights :) Obviously, I rejected that. I'm hoping I can book directly through the Wynn for those nights closer to the date or hopefully it gets added to Hotwire
  14. Thanks for that info. Seems a bit strange though since we'd be checking out when it's starting. I tried again up to $165 with no luck.
  15. I've been having no luck bidding Priceline for a 5* hotel on Strip North (I want the Wynn or Venetian) for Oct 10 - 14. I've bid up to $160 and i haven't seen any winning bids higher than that. Does this mean there's nothing available? Should I wait until it's a bit closer to the date? Thanks
  16. Good news! Just got the Intercontinental Barclay on Priceline from Oct 5 to 10 for $230/night :)
  17. Sorry I should have updated. I am now bidding on Priceline for October 5 to 10, possibly 11th if I can get a good enough rate but not looking likely at this stage so will check out on the 10th.
  18. I bid upto $205 on Priceline as I spent over my budget on other hotels and didn't get anything :)
  19. $205 on Priceline From October 2 to 5 Little bit more than I wanted to pay but wanted to get it out of the way. Hope it's a good hotel :)
  20. I just went ahead with the Hotwire deal and it was the Westin! $155 for October 1 stay :)
  21. How can I do that? I initially bid for 5 nights and then Priceline asked if I wanted to extend it so I added 2 extra nights. Wish I did 3 but I didn't plan to have a mini-break when I placed the bid.
  22. Which would be more likely - buying this Hotwire deal or trying to bid on Priceline? I've got the seven nights before this on there so is there a chance it would come up again? I'm so indecisive :)
  23. It is 4* on Hotwire. Checking in for 1 night on October 1.
  24. I've tried to bid on Priceline for the first week of October upto $250/night and haven't got a 4* so I'm thinking it's unlikely you will. Even 3.5* would be a struggle for $160.
