  1. I would be more then glad to. But I am finding Priceline and more so Hotwire, have not had the deals they use to 5-6 years ago, they are charging the room tax and a booking fee. Hence as much as I like to use them my better deals have been hotel direct.

So I was going to take the offer I inquired about at the start of this tread.  Problem was with my daughter, I was about to book it and she said I have a hair appointment on the 18th It took me a month to get. I thought this was all figured out she is the one who asked if were were going to go to Saltlake. So unless she changed a hair appointment of all things so we could not go on this trip, by the time she got ahold of the hair dresser ( who was not returning her calls ) it was Tuesday of the next week, by then the price of the listing went up to 127.

So I continued my search I was only thinking of taking the Sandy room because it was much  cheaper then downtown Salt Lake. I came across a steal of a deal at Hilton Gardens Inn Downtown Salt Lake.  I thought wait a minute that hotel is sold out on both Hotwire and Priceline.  I checked on Hiltons site, yes it was there. Searched for the 17-19, sure enough 116 for a double Queen room. I could of booked a 2 room suite, 1 king bedroom, living with sofa sleeper, and a double jetted tub for 136 a night!  Okay we don't get breakfast, but a heck of a deal for downtown 3 star hotel with a trip advisor rating of  4.5.  other 3 stars are about 200.00

Just checked it is now sold out on Hiltons site, so Instead of putting unsold rooms on another site they sold them direct.  Even if not a Hilton rewards member it would of been 119.  Believe me I am still beating my self up for not taking the 85 room. Hair appointment she had all summer to do it.

  2. I have learned that many booking sites will say 5 rooms left, or only one room left. the count down seems to start at 5.

What people must bear in mind is that is usually the amount of rooms allocated to the reseller at that moment.

If you go to the Hotels own booking site you may find more then 1 double queen room is available.

I use this tactic when booking a non blind room, but have used it booking a blind room too.  If I am told by a (blind booking of course) site 1 room

is only available for a 4 star hotel in a town that has only one 4 star hotel I will go to the hotel's site and try booking the max allowed

to see if only one room in available.  Usually there are more then one of the same class room available on the hotels site. Of course this does not mean that

once that 1 room on a third party site is gone it will be back but I have seen it happen.

I have viewed the  one room left warning, go to book it, then be told it was sold to some one else. Search again the room is gone, next morning what do you know the

same star rating  same exact description, same review level rooms available, price might of changed, but the room is there.

So the best indication is always with the hotels site and not a third party site.

It is all a game we are just trying to stay one step ahead.

  3. It is of my opinion that there are plenty of rooms left because:

Some travel sites are reporting that for that time Salt Lake is 75% booked. Which would mean one out of 4 rooms empty.

Yes the empty rooms can be in the worst hotel of course.

I have been in Salt Lake during the NCAA 2017 tournament and Comic-Con, both were happening the same weekend

and attracted even more people. 90% of the hotels were sold out. Had a much harder time finding a room

and paid less then what they are asking for the same hotel room now. I booked that a week before travel so about the same time frame.

I tried various travel sites to book from 3 to as many as 9 rooms at a time and had no problem finding many downtown hotels with as many as 9 rooms left.

Two cities we travel to most right now (Salt Lake and Spokane) have very big convention markets, so I have a good feel of the market in those cities.

When prices sky rocket in a hotel market I usually ask why because if I can reschedule a leisure trip for a different weekend I will.

It is also U of U move in weekend but even with that it is my opinion there are still empty rooms.

I have paid as little as 89 for the Kimpton per night, downtown SLC on a August weekend.

  4. Will let you know how this goes, I would prefer downtown Salt Lake there are tons of rooms left but because of the conference the prices

    are outrageous.

Sandy is our second choice. My only thought is the Holiday Inn Express charges 30 a night for pets. On the Priceline listing if you click

booking conditions (located on the very bottom in blue) it says pet charge 25 a night. Any way either the Holiday inn express or the Best

    Western would be just fine.

  5. Found what seems to be same listing on Hotwire HotDeals and Priceline Express. One Key give away on Priceline it states pet fee of 25 a night.

This seems to  match the Best Western Plus Cotton Tree Inn. but the discout is more then 44% since most rooms there are going for 180 a night!

Any help would be appreciated there is a convention of 11,500 in Salt Lake and hotels that are usually a 100 are going for 250 or more in downtown salt lake that week end.

  6. I thought of the Muse and we really like Kimpton Hotels they are just fun; but I discounted it too fast since on travel sites they list a double double and king.as room choices on other sites.

    But I do think you may of nailed this one spot on!  when going to the hotels site if you select double double you are given more options;

    ADA double double

    and 2 queens.

We do not need a room on this trip, we are able to stay at my sisters right across the river in New jersey. Just though it would be fun to have 2-3 nites in the city.

So as of now I am going to watch it, also to see if the price goes down.

If I do choose that listing or anything else, I will post the result. I may even end up booking this stay very last minute, the night before or morning of as well.

  7. Was searching as 4 adults, since both are over 18.  I just cannot find any hotel that is a 4.5 star in the theater district with 2 queen beds most nyc hotels have 2 doubles in a room. Wondering if the hotel is brand new or a brand change .  Also I some how wound up posting this in the Priceline listing, I tried reposting it to the Hotwire section where it belong but did not succeed.

As to  Hotwire UTAH and Hotwire Crystal City hotel thread,  neither of those were booked blind, and the later was booked by my sister and we stayed in Alexandria instead.  Sorry for the oversight in not finishing either of those threads and I have done so.

  8. FULL AMENITIES: Free Internet, Pet friendly, Boutique hotel, Fitness center, Restaurant(s), Internet access, Spa services, In-room accessibility

I am usually very good at figuring out blind hotels on Hotwire or Priceline. I guess the hotel name right 75% of the time the other 20 Between 2 hotel the last 5 no where close.  As of late I notice Hotwire seems not to be as good saving wise as what i get on Priceline. They also seem to change things a lot, the last hotel we got using hotwire had listed restaurant, the hotel did have one a very closed one that had been shut down for at least 6 months.  So needless to say I do not have as much trust in hotwire as I use to.

Back to the listing this one has me stumped,  the search is:

Times Sguare South area July 5 thru July 6 1 room 4 adults. (2 adult and 2 kids in college)

Result is Times Square South Boutique Hotel

100% recommend (but that is just on 2 reviews total since march 2016)

    I am stumped what really throws me is the bed option ;

    hotel choice or

    2 beds or

    2 queen beds

The last is a big clue since NYC hotels are small 2 queens are rare!

The algonquin is a bit of a fit but they do not have 2 queens.

on their web site 4 people are in a king with sofa bed.

    Thanks for any help

  9. I am looking at the same hotel the amenities list is;

  10. Aaron

A new amenity set is what I was thinking.  But like I said I have never seen a star rating go any higher then the highest for the area.  I find the Best Western Listed at 2.5 and 3.0 stars but no where at all as a 3.5 property and It has nice reviews but I don't think it is a 3.5.

When I have time later I will go over to PRICELINE see what is there.  Lately I noticed Hot.wire is mixing it up more and more amenity wise more then they ever did

    the past.

I have been using HOTWIRE before you list how many people to a room, and in past years I could identify a hotel year after year now 4 months later and you can tell, or so it seems.

    Walter

  11. I am a bit confused by this one, if so it is a move I have not seen yet on Hotwire.

Looking at 3.5 star Sandy Draper South Jordan for a stay night of 3/22/14.

85% recommend, 4.5 trip advisor, and amenities are:

Free parking, fitness center, free breakfast, Pools, free internet, Business center, indoor pool, and self serv laundry.

What is odd is that I have never witness Hotwire going higher then a rating that is available in the location.

In other words the highest rated hotel on any other web site is a 3.0 star for that area, there are no 3.5 star hotels or above in that

    area.

I have seen a 2.5 as a 3 or the reverse but never have I noticed a hotel that was not there (star wise) listed!

I think it is Country Inns and suites or the Best Western Plus; either of which i would avoid and choose something else in another area.

give the price is 74.00 a night.  I can book the home 2 suites which looks very nice non blind on Hotwire for 71 a night and know what I am getting.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated

    Thanks Walter

  12. Three star listing amenities are Free Parking, Fitness Center, Internet Access, Free Breakfast, Pools, Indoor Pool, Self Service Laundry.

Hotwire lists a compare at price of 159 at the time of booking, the actual cost to book our room would of been 122 through the hotels web site.

I was hoping for a Hyatt or Hilton branded property given the 159. Breakfast is very much like that at a Holiday Inn Express.

  13. I will do that, I am waiting for my sister to decide.

The room I am interested is gone for now, at the price of 74 dollars it would of been worth

even booking 2 rooms, which was available at the time I started this. But if anyone has an

idea I would still like to know what hotel it may be.

I am stumped on this one! I am usually very good at figuring out what Hotwire hotel it is before buying

and at least have it to two possible hotels. I have never gotten a bad room using hotwire either, in fact

we have been up graded to even better and larger rooms several times.

  14. How many adults/children are you searching for?

As of now we are looking for 2 and 2. It may be 3 adults and 2 children, if my sister, their aunt

joins us, at that point we need to do 2 rooms on hotwire or go another booking route.

It seems a lot of hotels in the area are 2 queens, or a king and sofabed.

Not too many hotels have 2 queens and a sofa bed, I wish HOTWIRE would tell the room configuration one is

bidding on but, that is part of the fun I guess.

  15. The zone of National airport is not that important, though we are flying home from it .

What is important to my family is a hotel with a pool and a breakfast included in the room

rate. This is the first listing for the DC area that has both items. We won't have a car, not needed in

DC, We will get there by train from the New York area. The Dulles area is out since no metro

which is a third item on the list, the hotel needs to be close to a metro station.

  16. It was suggested that I start a new topic for this search.

I am looking at this listing on hot wire a

3* Crystal City - Reagan National Airport DCA area hotel

    with

    Free Breakfast

    Fitness Center

    Pool

    Business Center

    High Speed Internet

I think it might be a Hampton Inn, Embassy suites or a Residence Inn By Marriott. Though each fits on

some amenities it misses on some others.

I feel it could also be a Marriott of some type where there is a breakfast rate and a non breakfast rate but

    hotwire is offering the breakfast.

Our travel dates are July29 through Aug 1 2011

    Thanks for any help.

  17. I am looking at the same hotel listing now and have not figured it out.

I have several ideas each meets the listed amenities but fails for one or two reasons:

Hampton Inn Suites Reagan National- 2.5*on Expedia, and a suite hotel which is not in hotwire listing, also has airport shuttle not in listing

Embassy Suites Crystal City - National Airport, 3* on Expedia, also has a suttle not mentioned, and is a suite not mentioned.

Residence Inn By Marriott Pentagon City is anothe choice three stars on Expedia but when entering 2 adults and 2 children Expedia says exceeds the max allowed guests.

This is for a three night stay late July, the two items important to my family are; the comp breakfast, and a pool, two items harder to find in DC.

If any one has won this hotel please reveal.

    Thanks
