  1. Well. I'd like more to stay within my price range and accept other areas than spend more money. As long as there is public transport nearby available to go to the tourist hot spots.
  2. Thank you very much for your reply. Still need the rooms. I was hoping for a rate from 100 to 120 $. Based on your suggestions I'd rule out the McCormick area. Thanks for your support.
  3. I'm looking for 2 rooms in Chicago from 7/17 to 7/20 in Chicago. Minimum 3,5 Star Unsure ablout the best Zones, but I guess - Downtown - River North - Magnificent Mile -Gold Coast - Chicago Loop - Grant Park - Downtown Chicago - Millennium Park - McCormick Place - South Loop - Soldier Field are fine. Can you please suggest hints and a price range for bidding on PRICELINE? Thanks a lot.
  4. Okay...did it. Got the Hudson for 131$ from Dec 13 to Dec 16 and an extension for 201$ from Dec 16 to Dec 18. Thanks for helping.
  5. Wasn't successful till now, even if I increased my maximum bid on 160$. Today i made a booking with a special offer at Milford Plaza for 139$...just to have something, if my future bids will fail, too. I'll cancel this, when i get something at 3,5* level. I'll keep bidding...
  6. I took a look on some current reviews for Flatotel. They are pretty diverging...some like it (even the furnishing is old and outworn) and some don't recommend it. So I'd rather won't give a trail at Flatotel.
  7. I didn't meant Upper East...but Upper West. Sorry...my fault. So the acceptable zones are ESB, MTE, MTW, TS, MSG, Upper West and Chelsea. CPS i'd not prefer.
  8. Additionally to our favorite zones (ESB, MTE, MTW, TS) the MSG, Upper East and Chelsea would be also acceptable at 3,5* level.
  9. Hi, just won on priceline 2 nights @ W New York (MTE) for 135$ from Dec 18 to Dec 20. Tried to extend the bid for the same price, but I wasn't successful. For the rest of our stay we'd like to get something with an average of 150$/day at ESB, MTE, MTW, TS. If necessary, we'd split this period again. If 4* doesn't match with the price, we'd rather go down with the stars and/or add other zones like MSG, Upper East or Chelsea. By bidding for the whole period (Dec 13 to 18), i wasn't successfull with a maximum of 150$ in ESB, MTE, MTW, TS at 4*-level. What would you suggest? Splitting the period again (which dates ?), lower the *-level, adding other zones? Thanks for helping. Pete
  10. I've been successful, but only for Dec 18 to Dec 20. Got the W New York Hotel in Lexington Ave for 135$/day. Seeking now something for the rest of our stay (Dec 13 to Dec 18). Maybe I'll try this with 3,5* or 3* to keep the quotes low.
  11. Hi, we're going to stay in NYC from Dec 13 to Dec 20. If there is a chance of getting a better quote, we'd split the period, even when we have to change the hotel. What do you think? Are the quotes different in this period, that it becomes a sense? The average quote should not go over 150$/day for a 4* in ESB, MSG, MTE, MTW, TS. Which dates would you separate to minimize the price? Thanks for your help. Pete
  12. A friend told me about a great offer at Travelzoo.com. Currently they are offering the Sheraton in downtown Brooklyn for $109 + tax daily through Sept 10. Of course, it's not Manhattan. But the price is unequaled and the Metro is pretty near. The reviews are quite good, too. I've never stayed in Brooklyn before, but i think the neighborhood is acceptable. I tend to make the deal at Travelzoo. What do you think?
  13. I think i will stay at my maximum of $150 for the next 2 weeks or so...won't give up too early ;-)
  14. Sorry...at Hotwire I had selected the worng currency (EUR instead of US$). I'll keep on bidding with your priceline strategy.
  15. Thank you for your assistance. The 4* in ESB-Area has only High Speed Internet Access. The 3,5* in Chelsea/MSG-Area has Fitness, Restaurant, Business Center and High Speed Internet Access.
  16. I've tried it almost twice a week till now...I'll continue. Today I've got a look at Hotwire. I found 2 bargains that are interesting: 4* ESB @ $161,15 3,5* Chelsea @ $156,14 What do you think? Should I continue with Priceline or take one of those bargains?
  17. I'd accept every zone in Manhattan. There's no problem, if the next metro isn't next to the hotel. The only thing is, that the rooms shouldn't be too small. For a 4* it will be difficult to get a win with a maximum of $150, so I think that 3,5* is a good compromise. In other threads I read, that Hudson Hotel in CPS has very small rooms. So I'd rather resign that zone. This is what I'll try till End of June...if you see a need of improvement, please let me know. Select 3.5* ESB, HK, MSG, MTE, MTW, TS, Upper W Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $120, if rejected close browser and re-access Select 3.5* ...add Chelsea Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $135, if rejected close browser and re-access Select 3.5* ...add DT Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone... Bid $150
  18. Pressure isn't that high till now. But I'm traveling with my family and our dates for NYC are fix. So I need the rooms definitely. Maybe a strategy can be to continue bidding for the next few weeks with a maximum of $150. And if I'm not successful till the end of june I'd raise my maximum a bit. I've checked the calendar of wins (great tool btw) in September. There was only one winning bid in the same period ($169 for a 3,5*). Could this work?
  19. I've tried some strategy from other threads. Starting at $100, raising to $150 by adding rebid-zones. Tried this for 4*, 3,5 * and 3*.
  20. I'm looking for 2 Rooms in NYC this September. My maximum is $150 per room/night. Zones doesn't matter (every zone in Manhattan). 4* would be great, but i also accept 3,5* or 3*. Which star-level is realistic for the price? Already tried several bids in the last 2 weeks, but i wasn't lucky till now. Am I too early? Is $150 too less for a room in that season or is it because I want to stay mid-week? Thank you.
