I used this forum's PRICELINE link when bidding. After several attempts, I got the Handlery Hotel And Resort, 950 Hotel Circle North, San Diego, CA 92108. It has decent reviews at tripadvisor. Accepted on first try: $80 for 4* in DTS.

Priceline did not work for me this trip, but I'm posting my bid history in case it helps someone else. I used this board's PRICELINE link each time. Bidding zones: - I wanted Downtown New Orleans or the French Quarter. Re-bid zones: - As tkduke77 noted in another thread, "The Garden District only goes up to 2.5* and the New Orleans East zone only goes up to 2*." - In addition, I noticed New Orleans West Bank only goes up to 3*. So I used numerous combinations of the re-bid zones. - Started bidding for the four-night stay (12/30/11-1/3/12). Bid from $100 to $140 for 4*. All rejected. - I narrowed it to the most expensive night, New Year's Eve (12/31/11 to 1/1/12). Bid from $150 to $270 for 4*. All rejected. - Went back to the four-night stay (12/30/11-1/3/12). Went down to 3.5*. Bid from $90 to $180 for 3.5*. All rejected. - However, I got two immediate rebidding offers as follows: - Bid $170 for 3.5* Downtown + Garden + New Orleans West; rejected but immediate rebid offer $229 - Bid $180 for 3.5* Downtown + NO East + NO West; rejected but immediate rebid offer $229 I gave up on Priceline and went to Hotwire instead, where I had success (see my separate post in that forum). I used the HOTWIRE link.

I started with Priceline (separate post in the Priceline forum) but hotels would not even accept USD 180 for 3.5 stars, so I went to Hotwire using this board's HOTWIRE link. Got the Sheraton at approx USD 180 (I paid in Canadian dollars): Rate per night: CAD 183,36 Nights: 4 Rooms: 1 Tax recovery charges & fees: CAD 127,05 Trip total: CAD 860,48 Booking thru the Sheraton is minimum USD 240 / night (pre-tax) and Expedia 4-star unpublished deal was CAD228/night (pre-tax) so it's a relatively good deal.

I looked for a place near Radio City Music Hall, which is in the Midtown West (MTW) zone. Bids of $85, $90 and $95 were rejected for 3.5* in MTW, MTE, MTS, Central Park South, and various combinations of those zones. Since I was going to be paying more than $100 I decided to bid for 4-stars instead. Bid of $105 was rejected for 4* MTW. Bid of $110 was rejected for 4* MTW+MTE. Then I got the Sheraton by bidding $120 for 4* MTW+Central Park South. Maybe I could have gotten a lower price, but at least I can get Starwood Preferred Guest points! I used this site's PRICELINE link each time I bid.

UPDATE: weekend stay is cheaper than weekday stay: I was originally bidding for a Thursday check-in, Monday check-out (9/15/2011 to 9/19/2011). This week I tried again, and the following bids were rejected: 4* downtown $75 4* downtown & Northwest $82 4* downtown & Northwest $ South $85 4* downtown & Airdrie $91 3.5* downtown $67 3.5* downtown $ Northwest $75 Then I changed my dates to 9/16/2011 to 9/19/2011 (to remove the Thursday night stay). This led to a SUCCESSFUL first-time bid: 4* downtown $81 - accepted - Westin Calgary I'm very happy with that result! For the Thursday, I bid: 3.5* downtown $75 - rejected 3.5* downtown & Calgary South $77 - rejected 3* Calgary South $70 - rejected but offered rebidding at $82 3* downtown & Calgary South $77 - accepted - Blackfoot Inn I used this site's PRICELINE link when bidding.

At check-in, the Delta Chelsea had found me a double room. I asked if construction was still going on (they were building next to the hotel the last few times I stayed there) and the check-in agent found me a room (still a double room) away from the construction. Good stuff.

I phoned Delta and Priceline and for some reason they assigned a single queen bed this time. The other three times I won the Delta Chelsea, they gave a double room. Hopefully when I get there, Delta will have a double room available.

I was hoping to get a 4* for under $90 but it didn't work. So I went down to a cheaper 3.5* instead. The rates for 9/15-9/19 were too high for my liking, so I gave up - booked with a cheap hotel instead.
