  1. When referring to the breakdown of Newark areas, Hotwire displays Downtown Newark area as an option, but that area is not segmented clearly on you board. What should I be referencing?
  2. What appears to be the Westin is back on Hotwire at the time of this post - curious about another option. Could be a definite possibility: August 8-11 4* Strip South $85/nightly $300.79 total About $20 resort fee Amenities: Resort Free Parking Free Internet Casino Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) Business Center High-Speed Internet Access Golf Nearby Tennis Nearby Spa Services Accessible for the deaf Accessible path of travel Accessible bathroom Handicapped parking Roll-in shower
  3. We're looking to stay under $400, for the three nights total (after taxes... preferably after resort fee, too, but that's another story). We'd love to get closer to the $300 mark, as we're kicking ourselves for not booking straight with Planet Hollywood the day we discovered we'd be traveling to Las Vegas - they had a rate for about $310 (pre-resort fee). But, woulda, shoulda, coulda...
  4. Thank You - we did not yet pull the trigger on either of those options. Weren't in love with either just yet. Could someone please advise as to the following option. Thanks in advance: Same dates (August 8-11) This is a 4*, Strip North $97/night $372 total About $20 in resort fees 75% thumbs up Amenities: Free Parking Pet friendly Casino Smoke Free Rooms Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) Business Center High-Speed Internet Access Golf Nearby Spa Services Accessible for the blind Accessible for the deaf Accessible path of travel In-room accessibility Accessible bathroom Handicapped parking Roll-in shower
  5. Our other option would be this, same August 8-11 dates; this time a 4* on the Las Vegas Strip South. $86/night $302 total About $20 per night in resort fees Receives 80% thumbs up Amenities: Resort Free Parking Free Internet Casino Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) Business Center Golf Nearby Accessible for the deaf Accessible path of travel In-room accessibility Wheelchair accessible Accessible bathroom Handicapped parking Roll-in shower
  6. Hello All - Please help... we've come across a decent deal. 5* on the strip, Las Vegas Strip North: $101/night $353 total Hotel charges about $30 for resort fee Hotel listed as 90% thumbs up Amenties include: Spa Services Resort Free Parking Pet friendly Smoke Free Rooms Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) Business Center High-Speed Internet Access Golf Nearby Tennis Nearby Kitchenette
  7. We have a winner! My first succesful bid. After a 4* NMA was declined for $105 ($110 with $5 bonus cash), I added Parks/Loop and won with $105 ($110 with $5 bonus cash). Our hotel is The Blackstone. It's a bit further south than I've stay before, but the reviews seem great and the pictures look amazing.
  8. Thanks for that advice. I really appreciate the heads up. Made two quick bids tonight to no avail: NMA 4* -$90 NMA and Park/Loop 4* - $99 Which zones can I use as dummy zones to allow for additional bids each night? And, does anyone have an opinion on something less than 4* in NMA? Plus, anyone have an opinion on anything in Lincoln Park?
  9. Updating Hotel Search: Started the bidding process last night. NMA (4*) - $79 NMA and Park/Loop (4*) - $85 NMA and Park/Loop (4*/3.5*) - $85 No winners. Yet. Determined to score a deal. Still aiming for 4*... would be fairly happy with 3.5*. Anyone have thoughts or tips before round 2 of bidding begins?
  10. Thanks for the help. The fine print did in fact kick in... I found it weird the system allowed me to make it through a few screens with my travel dates, but it denied the deal on the final step. Any bidding ideas for the same dates, 11/9 - 11/13. Prefer 4 star on the mile, but as mentioned would be comfortable in park zone and the other zone just north of the river.
  11. I've gotten as far as hitting accept to make the purchase... even with my desired travel dates. Would this area and price be worth it?
  12. These tasks have been completed. So.... any ideas about this year's travel questions?
  13. Hey all, So here's what happened. We tried the gameplan... but couldn't get anything to fall in our price range. We tried to go up $10-$15, but still no success. Luckily, we stumbled on a discount that was offered from my work that allowed us to stay at the Grand Hyatt. We'll use this site again for bidding help and directions. Very helpful.
  14. Hello all, I was planning on bidding on Priceline or utilizing Hotwire to book a hotel for a 4 night trip in November. I was hoping to keep the cost under $140 a night, including taxes/fees. First choice would be the two zones just north of the river, but would be okay with a good hotel in the loop/park zone. Anyhow, Priceline has a $67/night deal right now for a 4* hotel in the loop/park zone. Any clue which hotel this could be? Claims guest rating is 9.0 and lists Ammenities as follows: 24-hour fitness center, walking distance to millennium park and the chicago river, multiple restaurants, plasma tv, in room safe, deluxe bedding. Just FYI: Trip date is Nov 9-13. Trip is an annual anniversary trip... last year we visited NY, this year Chicago. Itinerary will include a bit of siteseeing, blue man group, museums, shopping, etc. Last two visits to Chicago included stays at Hilton Garden Inn (Magnificent Mile) and the Hyatt Regency.
  15. We're a young couple, wanting to visit NYC for our one year anniversary. We're ready to book, so I'm up for a strategy that works so we can stop worrying about it. Here are our goals, watered down: -Island of Manhattan... we're hoping to be close to midtown and transportation -SAFE... we hope to be able to access the hotel at night feeling somewhat safe -Hoping for under $240 a night after fees (max bid $205... or max total of $720) That's it... we've never been to New York and are realizing nearly every hotel and neighborhood have pluses and minuses. Like I said, in the grand scheme of things, we're young and have never set expectations for a 5*. We just need something clean, fun, safe and accessible. In all honesty, if someone thinks there is a better area or strategy for two 20-somethings who want to see the sites, enjoy some food and simply take in NYC, please include it in a strategy. We're just starting to feel the pressure after a few declined bids and seeing different prices rise in the past week. We hoped to be as close to Times Square as possible, but would widen out to fit our price point. We've seen options that seem nice in: BTS MTW MTE CPS ESB MSG Obviously, we'd want the highest * as possible... but have stated we'd fall to a 3* thinking it would help us. But, I'm very green on bidding, maybe there's a strategy that I'm unaware of that's more complicated then simply lowering our stars.
  16. We're actually up for anything. So, I'm up for a strategy that works so we can stop worrying about it. 17. Yep, what looked like Turner is Tunnel when a bit tipsy and tired. Never drink and type. I'm seeing some mentions of this Millenium UN. Seems far away. Makes me wonder if I shouldn't include MTE in a bid and add Central Park South instead?? The rest of the zone would be okay, but the UN is so close to the coast. I'd also be okay with the north side of ESB but am worried about the south side of that area. $240 after taxes/fees.
  18. I keep refering back to PRICELINE cause it's map is very clear to me. Our initial research and goal has us striving to stay in the Times Square-Theater District or Midtown West areas, with our new third option being Midtown East. My fears of bidding on what looks like the Madison Square Garden area on PRICELINE is that it will put us either further south than 70 Park Avenue or further west near the Turner Expressway. I think our desires can be summed up like this: -A hotel that ranks 3* or higher, and -A hotel that can be gotten for $240 night ($720 total for three nights) BUT that is closer to $200 a night, and -A hotel located in the above mentioned areas in a very safe, walkable area near transportation.
  19. I wanted to add that I could possibly go higher than $200, but am trying to stay there. After tax and fees, our absolute max for hotel is $240 a night or $720 for the three nights. One more note, I have a $10/night coupon code for priceline bidding that i can utilize to help in my quest and a $20 back from hotwire that i can utilize, too.
  20. Here are my thoughts on these first replys. Please, anyone, keep them coming. I like to think of myself as well traveled for my age, but New York is new to me. First, in regards to 70 Park Ave. We're aiming to be more north, than south. I think most of what we want to see includes museums up north, central park, times square, broadway. We will make our way to empire state building and lady liberty, but we're favoring north of 42nd (what looks like the south border of Pricelins TS area). I'm also trying to keep the $200 budget for now. Second, I'm now considering adding MTE as our third area for bidding. I like those comments on the crowds. Does anyone have any thoughts on what Priceline calls Central Park South?
  21. I've clicked on that link and will use it for my purchases... any advice on the bidding?
  22. Hello, Long time listener, first time caller. Here's the deal. My girlfiend (and myself, who are we kidding) want to stay in what Priceline calls the Times Square/Theater District OR Midtown West. We'll be arriving Saturday, November 13th and staying for 3 nights, leaving Tuesday, November 16th. We're trying to get a room at 3* or higher for $720 or less (taxes included). I've tried bidding, even going as high as $200 (which is a few bucks past that $720). Nothing has been accepted. Any ideas? We're pretty set on those areas... unless I can convince the lady friend that an adjacent area is just as accesible, fun and safe (first time visit to the big apple, so safety is a big deal to both of us) HELP!!
