  1. Sorry - one other question? Would that price include the resort fee? It says "taxes and fees" are $174 but doesn't say what the fees are. (Thank you!)
  2. Thanks for the advice! After I wrote that I realized that maybe HOTWIRE/PRICELINE EXPRESS might be a better option for this trip. Location isn't super important, as we'll have a car and Orlando isn't huge. Most important is a nice resort that we can spend the day at with fun kid stuff and restaurants nearby. I'll look again and let you know, thanks.
  3. Looking to book a nice place to stay with kids, ideally with 1-2 bedrooms & kitchen, in Orlando or Kissimmee area. Is it possible to do a specific search on PRICELINE for this? I don't want just a hotel room, because little kids go to bed really early - so I'd like at least one bedroom. We'd also like a resort that has pools and other amenities to keep kids entertained. Is it possible to keep this in the approx. $120 US range? Thanks for any advice!
  4. I bought the HOTWIRE one (through your site). It was $156/night U.S. (or close, it converted to my currency) and it was the Redbury New York (formerly Martha Washington) in the Flatiron area, which I'm happy with. It looks good on the website, hopefully it's decent. Yes, I had been bidding up to $150 for 4*, but was getting alarmed at the taxes and extra hotel fees - this made it quite high. Also, I had separated my dates, just looking for the first two days because the Friday night seemed to be higher on the non-bidding sites. I was willing to move hotels once for the right price, but it was getting too high for the inconvenience of that. So when I saw what seemed to be a decent price for all three nights, I went for it. thanks for your help!
  5. Hi! I was bidding higher and higher, no luck yet. So looked at Hotwire instead and found this one: "4-star Boutique Hotel in Union Square - Flatiron area" Free Internet, Boutique hotel, Airport shuttle, Fitness center 80% recommended. Any guesses on what hotel this might be? It says the price is $158/night, at 58% off. Good deal?
  6. Hi, thanks! Yeah, a small room would be fine, and definitely Times Square, Chelsea and ESB would be great. A 15 minute walk to the subway isn't ideal... maybe skip that one unless you know of a great deal there.
  7. It's for Saturday, Oct. 22 Lower East Side is fine, would be happy with ESB, MSG, Central park South, UN, but even downtown/wallstreet would be fine for the right price.
  8. Hi - was looking at your calendar of wins and spotted one around my travel time that scored a 4* Doubletree for $100. Amazing! Have you heard of any more deals like that? I'm there for three nights, Nov. 2-5, and I'm flexible about location. I've been to NY many times before and know my way around and am comfortable with the subway. Central would be ideal, but not mandatory. I realize that the NYC Marathon is happening the weekend I leave, so I think it's a popular time (although I'm leaving the day before the marathon, so it's not quite as bad). Any advice would be greatly appreciated - I've used your site before and it's great!
  9. I was hoping for Toronto -Downtown South. I bid $83 for a 4* based on a close date on the calendar of wins. I lost, so added Downtown North (I prefer south, but north would be ok). Bid $85 and won the Sheraton, which is South - perfect location.
  10. Well, as low as possible - I don't even know where to start. Perhaps I will try separating the first two nights from the other three - I don't mind moving once if it gets me a better deal. I'll try Copley Square along with Quincy - thanks. Basically I'm looking to find a reasonably priced hotel in a good area of Boston for tourists - any suggestions welcome.
  11. p.s. We're driving into Boston on the Saturday night. It's a long drive (10 hours), so I'd also be happy to stay on the outskirts of the city on the first night (only) - somewhere that's easy to drive to. Especially if prices are a lot higher in Boston on Saturday nights. This is just a vacation, so I can be somewhat flexible. But other than the first night, I'd like to be in the heart of the city.
  12. Hi Everyone, I've never been to Boston before, and I'm wondering what sort of prices I can get on a 4* (ideally) or 3.5 star hotel in the Quincy Market/Faneuil Hall area of town (I'm told that's a good place for a tourist, easy walking distance to shops and sights - correct?) I don't see anything on the Calendar of wins for that time. Thanks for any advice!
  13. Hey all, I just scored a deal on a 4* in Orlando. $60 for the Rosen Shingle Creek for Saturday, March 26. How I got there: I bid $55 and was rejected. Priceline suggested that I increase my bid to $70. Aha! So I'm close then!! I added a zone and bid $60, and voila - won in the original zone I wanted. Although I'm not that fussy, the other zone would have been okay too.
  14. Hey, we were in NYC last weekend and got the Empire Hotel (UWS) for $215 by bidding on priceline. And I think you might even be able to get it lower than that - last weekend was a really expensive weekend. The location was great- 63rd & Broadway. I noticed that as we got closer to the date, a couple of people got slightly lower prices than we did. So if you're willing to take a chance, I'd wait until closer to the date. Every weekend has different availability, depending on what's going on in the city, but it might be worth a shot. We were flying in, and so had to have something booked, but if we had been driving, I would have been more willing to give that a shot.
  15. Wahoo! They must have dropped their prices a bit, because I just got the Empire Hotel (4-star, UWS) for $215. (Resisting the urge to type in all caps!) It might have been even lower but for the Monday night. We didn't want to risk having to move, so I only bid for the three days together. But from searching around a bit, i think the Monday night was the problem day. However, it's done now. :) Hopefully it's a nice place. The majority of the reviews seem positive. There are always a few crabby people out there, right?
  16. So... went back at it again, after reading about somebody else's success in the UWS side area - she snagged a 4* for $199 for similar dates. However, I went as high as $220, and was still rejected. (For UWS, ESB, MSG, Chelsea, Hell's Kitchen, TS). I'm guessing that my problem is the Monday night is holding me back. However travelling companion really doesn't want to move - especially on the Monday, as we have an event to get ready for (don't want to be locked out of a hotel until 3 pm).
  17. For a similar price, I'll stick with the Empire State Building area, as it would be a lot more convenient for us. I only would have stayed off Manhattan if it was totally impossible to get something under $250. But I'll keep watching.
  18. Hi, I've been stalling, hoping the prices will drop - that's the down side of Priceline/Hotwire - once you commit, you're stuck. I just checked my backup plan today - the Red Roof Inn on 32nd - and their price dropped again. $242 for the Saturday night, $204 for Sunday and Monday. So far, that's looking like my best option.
  19. Hey, I tried to get the same deal, but $80 didn't work for me. Got it for $90 though. Didn't have the time to try for anything in between - if it had failed, I would have been stuck booking the "old fashioned" way via a hotel's website.
  20. Just to be sure, that's the Chelsea-MSG one, correct?
  21. Yeah, that sounds really nice - anybody have any experience with that one? Is that $259 a bid or priceline regular price?
  22. I gave Priceline (via your PRICELINE link) another shot last night, and gave up when I was still unsuccessful @ $225 for a 4* star anywhere in the midtown area. I"ll try again later - still debating whether I should drop down to a 3.5* range or take the Red Roof Inn backup plan. RRI is a 3-star but I have stayed there before and it's fairly nice and in a good location (You wouldn't mistake it for a fancy 4* though). Some of the reviews I've read about other places available on PL say that rooms are old/shabby, smell like smoke, etc.
  23. Thanks, I'll definitely do that. I booked the Red Roof Inn as a backup, but certainly haven't given up on PRICELINE yet.
  24. Hi again, I just booked my flights. Arriving Saturday morning (Sept 25) @ Newark, leaving Tuesday afternoon. I realize that staying off Manhattan might be the sensible approach, but I'm really not interested for this trip. Don't want to move in the middle of the trip, and we're going to an awards show on the Monday night, and don't want to take a cab back to wherever late that night. (Friends will be staying nearby, want to be able to go out with them). Thanks for the info about Travelocity. I did a bit of reading about it online, and so far they sound pretty dodgy. I'll pass on that. I did find something interesting today though. I have been also watching the Red Roof Inn on 32nd (Sorry, I don't think they're on Priceline), where I have stayed before. The price dropped in the past few days from $338 to $242 (with a AAA discount). So if that's any sort of a benchmark to go by, it might be worth trying again with Priceline. I'll let you know if I find anything.
